CARB help question!
Snaggletooth replied to repsolracer22's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I would have yelled STOP if I had know you were getting into that. Been there. Did all four carbs on one set. Really found no need to replace the seats. Needles wear a lot faster than the seats do. But since you're already there..... I found plugs that fit by going door door to several small engine shops. No Idea what they were meant for in the beginning, just digging in what they had on hand. You will probably need the new filter. Refered to as a NET FILTER.. 1J7-14994-00-00. It's a small filter with a domed face so it can get crushed. If you drill too far through the plug it may have been damaged. If you are doing other carbs just spray carb cleaner into seat and use compressed air to blow back from the seat side to remove any debris back though the feed pipe. -
Jack, I found a way to save ya some money. If it's just the "look" you want this might be the answer.

A while back I was at a concert when a fight broke out. There were a couple of plain clothes guys there and and it got rough. One of the plain clothes guys went to draw from under his sports coat and fumbled his gun and fell down. Couple a folks reached for the gun and I got my size 12 planted on it before they could reach it. When the cop got back on his feet I pointed to my foot and said "It's cool. Got ya covered." He probably had to take some flack over that. I always hoped and armed officer could shoot well and most I see at the range can. After that I only hoped they could hang onto the dang thing. Hope ya did well at the requal Mike.

Starter or Starter Clutch - 1986

These first time owner stories with a bad ending are frustrating. Not the first one I've read, heard or known about. One new owner/rider was killed when leaving a dealers parking lot, over accellerated, went though a ditch and into traffic on the four lane highway in front of the dealership. Didn't make it to the other side. Another one, right after picking up his brand new, first time ever on a bike never made it off the lot. Crashed into a parked car in the dealers lot and was killed without making it to the street. In the end who's responsible for their death? The one on the bike. Sad for family and friends but they didn't cause it. They knew the risks as well as the rider. I'm not a fan of over regulation and control. Would a law have stopped this from happening? Could the dealer have stopped the guy from riding away? Should have someone stepped in to make sure he had the skills? There we are. The old coulda, shoulda, woulda. Kills a lot of folks. The guy, got something he wanted. I'm cool with that, but at what cost? I feel bad for the wife. She knew the possible outcome. His boy..... "Dad went out with a smile on his face?" I seriously doubt it. Not at the end. Riding is dangerous no doubt. We are here on this site because we learn to manage the risk in a safe manner. If you know someone that wants to get a motorcycle step up and help, advise and educate them before the key hits the switch. I didn't take that step years ago with a friend and I regret it to this day. Yeah, these stories hit a nerve with me.

I've notice lawnmowers ain't what they used to be lately. Honda has one in the running at 130 MPH. Gear is probably a good idea.

You have any driving light brackets yet. I have something you might be interested in. 4.5" chrome with visors.

Starter or Starter Clutch - 1986
Snaggletooth replied to RedRider's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
The PCW engage only looks like a beefed up OEM engage. Still using three roller bearings and ball point pen springs. Look into Danos mod. I'll take 19 prawls over 3 any day. Mine's like Jeff said.......Flawless. But what you're describing is spot on for a broken engage clutch. -
I'm here for ya buddy, Just won't be behind ya.

Don't know which easy route you took but pull the inspection cover on the left side and all four plugs. Then a socket on the crank and see what happens. Not a lot of these motors have seized up.

I've been through that. Make ya crazy. Like you mine starts great, idles.... good, and runs fine..... while warming up and on cooler days there is no change. When the temps are up and the motor would start to heat up the RPMs would run up to 2,500 or 3,000 RPM and sit there. Next time it cooled off back to normal. I chased everthing and lubed anything that moved. Had it in my mind I was dealing with a vacuum leak. Carb boots, vacuum lines and the vacuum caps. After replacing any vac line that looked questionable and the caps on the carb boots the problem seems to be gone. Been up in the high 90's again this year and idle RPM stay solid where I set them. -
Bill Warner was aiming for 300mph By the Associated Press Posted Jul 15, 2013 1:44 AM CDT (AP) – A motorcycle racer trying to top 300mph died yesterday after losing control and zooming off a runway at a former air base in northern Maine. Bill Warner, 44, was clocked at 285mph before he lost control, says Tim Kelly, race director for the Loring Timing Association. Warner was conscious and talking after the crash but died about an hour and 15 minutes later, Kelly says. Riding his modified turbocharged Suzuki Hayabusa, Warner previously hit 311mph on the same course in 2011, using 1.5 miles of pavement. That's considered to be the world land speed record for a conventional motorcycle, Kelly says. "No one will touch Bill's achievements or be the type of racer he was," he says. This time, Warner was trying to hit 300mph using just a mile of pavement.

Good point. Been one of the worst rider seasons I've seen around here. Seems like almost daily there is more local news coverage on another rider going down and not lightly. They had a situation on I-80 here in town the other day. A 7 ft long, 35 lb section of steel they had be using to cover a gapping seam on the bridge flip up. Damaged 12 cars and sent one into the ditch. Nobody saw it until they hit it. Bike would have never made it.

Oh no ya don't. You can keep Bieber! -
Yep, they did. Over the last few years WW and reduced their Hostess displays dramtically due to the poor supply of products available to the stores. They would promote sales on certain items then not receive enough product to keep the shelves filled for the duration of the sales ads. WW does not like to have empty shelves. They will fill them with other product as fast as they can. That's just business sense. Kind of shot themselve in the foot with WW and customers alike. Wasn't just WW either. Common problem at many of the retailers. Looks like WW will be the only outlet for the time being. Not seeing anything happening with other retailers around this area as of yet. Curious to see how this all pans out.

Yeah, was just reading that this morning. Sounds like the airline is already firing up for a lawsuit against the station. I love a good prank but what cracks me up is when it takes so long for the other party to get the joke. There's not fact checking, and then there's ... not even using your brain. A newscast on Bay Area Fox affiliate KTVU apparently fell for a (racist and offensive) joke, incorrectly reporting that the pilots of the plane that crashed at San Francisco airport were named "Sum Ting Wong," "Ho Lee Fuk," "Bang Ding Ow," and "Wi Tu Lo,"SF Weekly reports. The network later apologized, but said an NTSB official in Washington had "confirmed" them. It wasn't exactly an official. Per the NTSB: "Earlier today, in response to an inquiry from a media outlet, a summer intern acted outside the scope of his authority when he erroneously confirmed the names of the flight crew on the aircraft." The kicker, as Mediabistro notes, is that KTVU had just been boasting about its "100% accurate" coverage of the disaster earlier this week. -
Those are getting harder to find all the time as only the '83 used the 26H TCI. Later years used the 41R. Good luck

Anti Dive elctrical disconnects
Snaggletooth replied to KIC's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
stanG, If you're looking for the electrical connections for the anti-dives you won't find them on your bike. Your bike is an MKI model with the hydraulic anti-dives. No drain on power with them. The MKII has the electric ones.
