Love the idea of a compact trailer that's easy to store as I only need one for emergencies and recovery. BUT, my only concern on this trailer is the narrow width of 48 inches. With a heavy bike like a VR or RSV I'd prefer at least a 6 foot wide stance for stability. Mike

Money is on the way. I'm locked in. Tell me what your next group buy idea is now so I can start tucking away my extra change now. I know you're going to do it I just don't know what yet. The suspense is killing me. :rotf::rotf: This is better than the Home Shopping Network! :rotf::rotf: Mike

Yamaha Xvz1200 Carb Needle Set
Snaggletooth replied to woz111's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Hey woz. Get ahold of RickH at Buckeye. He's got access to them. I just rebuilt the carbs on my '84 and got all my parts from him. Had to order some in and he might have some in stock now. Invoice is in the shop but I think they were about $38.00 each for the needle and seat set. If you're thinking of replacing the seats, do a lot of research and ask questions before you attempt it. You will need more than the needle and seat set. You need the net filters, the o-rings and plugs for the top of the carb body and the tools to drill and blind tap a 4mm thread into the hole so you can pry out the plug. It's a project and a half to do the seats believe me. I've talked to guys with bikes over 140,00 miles and have yet to talk to one that has replaced a seat. So with that said the needles are the weak link here. The tips are vitron I believe and they wear out long before the seat. Clean the seat with a solvent on a Q-tip, not a caustic carb cleaner and drop in a needle and it will be fine. Like I said, I just finished my '84 tonight and it's running again. RickH is at www.Buckeyeperformance.com Tell him Snaggletooth sent ya. He will remember me for sure. Tell him you are a member here. My advice on parts: The bare minimum. Bowl o-rings Diaphragm o-rings Needle assmembies And then you learn how to adjust the bowl fuel level! Have fun and good luck. Feel free to yell if you have any questions. Mike -
silverstar headlamp part no
Snaggletooth replied to 91nwl's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
You will like it. Good change. Just don't touch the bulb. If you do, clean it with alcohol. Oil or dirt on these things kills them. I think I paid $17 and change at Wally World. -

Fork Brace List
Snaggletooth replied to Condor's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)

Hey. Been working on making the adaptor plate for the air box for my bike. I've talked to the guy that came up with this and he's been using it with much success and he's happy with the performanace. No down side it seems like. There is some grinding to do to the air box internally and there is no change in the air flow as far as restriction. No holes are added to the airbox The plate itself sits on the top lip of the box and we are both using 1/8 inch aluminum plate for that. The biggest part of the change is getting the plate to fit exactly to the box and the inner cut to fit of the filter (CA 3717) The corners of the filter need to be nipped a bit to fit right but that's not a problem. Downside: You can't go back to the old filter after grinding the inner lips from the box. Upside: Yammy filters run what, $42.00 to $55.00 bucks a crack so you put off as long as possible. The Fram CA 3717 runs $9.50 to $12.00 so it ain't a big expense. You change more often. Open the top, drop it in. Painless. I'm looking forward to finishing mine. I'll keep ya posted. Mike

Fork Brace List

Howdy Just got my notification from the USPS that the brace is on it's way. Way to go Jack! :cool10::cool10: -
If you're hitting Wally World for boots see if they have anything in your size in the Hermans Survivor series. The name on the boot is the "Keith" Go figure. It's a SWAT style boot, non metalic toes, inside zipper, textile inserts and soles that seem to stick to about anything. I started wearing these boots last sumer and they have been impressive. The have a wicking liner, they are water proof, and that zipper make slip on slip off a breeze. I spend 12 to 14 hours a day on my feet in these boots and they are comfortable all day long. I ride in them and they have NEVER slipped out from under me on any surface wet or dry. They were about $76.00 when I picked up my first pair. The price dropped last winter to $48.00 so I picked up two more pairs. I'm still waiting for the first pair to wear out. I'm hard on work boots and these have out lived all the others for the money. And good luck on your carbs. I'm waiting for parts to rebuild the ones off my '84. Mike

Headlight Upgrade
Snaggletooth replied to Locomotive's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
The HID's are great but if you are looking to try for an improvment on a budget give the Silverstar H4 (#9003) a shot. Drops in like stock, under $20.00 and it is much better than stock. I mounted a set of 55 watt driving lights from Wally World (for under $20.00) tied into the fuse block with a relay and the trigger wire spliced into the high beam on the head light. I installed a toggle on the dash to select rather or not I want them on when I hit the high beam or not. For about $45.00 bucks it was a heck of a jump in lighting and it doesn't appear to be causing any drainage on the system. Mike -
"New" Bike
Snaggletooth replied to matt73ander's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Nice looking bike. Won't be long before they start jumping in here and telling you blue is the fastest color. They know what color my trunk is cause they can see it from the back. LOL! Ok, look for these things. The fork bearing adjustment. Start there. Next check the tires for cupping and wear. The can of worms will open with this statement but I love the Avon Venoms on mine. Look into them. Worth the research. Next consider the fork springs age. Not the best springs to start with and a change to Progressives is a huge difference. Last possible cure, a upgrade on the fork brace. If you have the bearings right, the tires are good and the springs are decent, you won't think of adding the fork brace. Or changing the motor mounts to solid mounts, or adding a Progressive to the rear suspension, or all the other stuff that comes up in conversation. I did mine this way and I'm good for hands off at 85 MPH. Dead steady. And by the way, blue might be the faster color, but one hasn't passed me yet. (mine isn't blue) But again. nice looking bike and welcome. Ride Safe Mike -
When my daughter started feeding herself she earned the handle "Gator". Best thing to do was push the food in close to her with a stick and keep your hands clear. She's 16 now and still packs it in like it's the last meal she'll ever get. You can still lose a finger if you try to snatch something off her plate. How she keeps at 115 lbs I'll never know.

If you need to make one improvement to your bike this is the one to make. I rebuilt my starter and wasn't happy with the change so I installed a set of Tupperj's cables. That did the trick! I thought I'd left the spark plugs out when I hit the button! Good hard spin and less drain off the battery during cranking. Good deal Tupperj! Thanks Snaggletooth

Need some insight
Snaggletooth replied to Squidley's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I had major problems when I got my bike with the old duns on it. I cleaned, lubed and tightened the head bearing, did the Progressives, and added the Venons during the first few months I owned it. I can run 75-85 MPH and have no problems with control now. Dead steady with a light one handed ride at any speed. I have tried hands off at Interstate speeds and she's rock solid even through the grooved pacement. Sweepers and twisties are effortless. The only time I had problems with wobble was this spring when I rode her to the station to top off the tires, about 15 lbs low, and she wanted to wander. Once the pressure was back up she was fine again. Now I got to mention, this bike only has about 46k miles on her. -
Got my new Avons today, WoooHooooo!
Snaggletooth replied to Midrsv's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I've had my Venoms since last summer and they do a great job, even where I was skeptical. In the rain. Much better than I expected on wet roads. Over the winter storage they each lost about 15 lbs of pressure. They looked fine and I drove it to the station to air them up. I thought the bike was falling apart on the way there. Once I got them aired up it was back to business as usual. Amazing what a difference a few pounds of pressure can make in a tire. As for the nitrogen, in my opinion, waste of money. Sure, they claim the tire runs cooler, maybe. The nitrogen really does nothing to help the tire or extend it's life. They say as far as running cooler it maintains the load rating of the tire. Take a good look the the load ratings on the Avon Venoms. You are going the have to do some serious buffet table action to crowd the limits on these donuts. They can take it with room to spare. Air me up, for free...........or 50 cents or whatever it's up to these days. -
I always use my fork lock where ever I park, even in my locked garage along with a rotor disc lock. I think mine is called a bulldog. (under $25.00) I have faith that this bike is going nowhere with both locks on without a tow truck involved.

You're such a tease Condor. Showing me the pictures of shiny things. These are just what I've been looking for. Turndowns, long enough, throaty sound and did I mention shiny? But I think I'm going the sit this dance out as much as I hate to. Just paid the piper on all my carb parts. (flinch) Better to get her running at her best before I worry about the pipes. Thanks for the offer and the info. Mike

Colortune for an '84?
Snaggletooth replied to Snaggletooth's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I hear ya on the ears Yammer. I used to dial in motors by ear a lot. Now I'm at a point where I'm wearing hearing aides all the time and it just ain't the same. I find myself using more techy gizmos to get the job done these days. Hell, I can't hear a thing without them! Cracks people up when they stop to talk when I'm out on the bike and I have to pry my bucket off my dome and pop the aides in. They don't believe I ride a bike with no hearing. Keeps me on my toes though. But I'm going to look into the Colortune and see what happens. Thanks for your input. Mike -
Colortune for an '84?
Snaggletooth replied to Snaggletooth's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Dark place is not a problem. Big garage, no windows. You happy with the product Yammer? Does it work as well as advertised? I've made a few new friends with the Carbtune and figure there will be a waiting line if I go for the Colortune. Seems like I never buy a tool for myself these days ya know. At least I get my moneys worth out of them. LOL! Thanks Mike -
Ok, I'm in the process of rebuilding all four carbs on my '84. I've got a Carbtune and the Colortune is catching my eye for dialing in the carbs. My question is how does this item work in the deep wells on an '84 1200? Is it visable enough to be useful or do I need the buy the attachments to view it in the well? Thanks Mike

Ok Condor. You got my interest but, ya got any pics of these things? Just want to know what they look like. I'd like a little more rumble than my stockers and need to deal with my light bar clearance. I'm not familiar with the Macs. Thanks Mike Snaggletooth
