  1. Condor, sometimes it seems like I'm the only one that doesn't have beef about wobble or shimmies on my '84. Since rebuilding the tubes, adding the Progressives and installing the Avon Venoms I've been happy as a clam with the handling. But today it all tightened up a click or two. I got my bike out on the road for the first time since the carb work and adding the brace. I am impressed. I blew through a tank of gas just putting her through the paces. Interstate, highways, backroad twisties, and the twisties again with some attitude. The bike held a line like never before. There was not a doubt it was going to stick to road and give all the control I wanted. I am pleased. Probably the best money I've spent, at least the smallest amount I've spent, LOL, for an improvement that really made a difference. Now, for the Mac's! Let's make a little rumble so the damn Gixxers can hear me coming up on them and get out of my way. :rotf: You made my day. Thanks again. Mike
  2. Hey woz Congrats on getting her going! Knew you could do it. :cool10: And the funs just beginning. Snaggletooth
  3. Yep. I ordered mine on May 16th, got the e-mail notice of it being back ordered on the 17th saying 1 to 2 weeks shipping. Then got another e-mail on June 2nd saying it was shipped and it arrived yesterday on June 5th. I do understand they order from the UK as they receive orders stateside. So it's got to jump the pond in between so the time frame is fair. I used mine last night. Nice unit. Glad to be rid of my mercury sticks. It is scaled starting at 8 hg so I hung mine upside down and had a good view of the readings that way. Try that with a mercury stick! Best way to go for the bucks.
  4. Yeah.......It's fun to get off the bike walk away that the audio byte blasting away on the player.
  5. Alrighty then! I'm getting tired of listening to that sound byte over and over. I dubbed it onto a CASSETTE TAPE and play in on the bike. :stirthepot::rotf: Thanks Condor! Mike
  6. Well, I'd probably pass on the headsets. (unless they come in chrome) LOL! I'm damn near deaf after losing about 75% of my hearing in the last couple of years so they wouldn't do me much good. That is one of the reasons I'm jumping on the Macs as I am expecting a lower freq. rumble that I can probably hear. I can not hear my VR run with the stock pipes without the hearing aids unless I'm cranking on it. I don't wear the aids when I'm riding because of the wind noise in the helmet. Riding on the silent side is interesting. Keeps ya on your toes. And I get to use the excuse "Honest Officer, I'd didn't the siren." Just for the record, trying to use ASL with a local LEO will get you cuffed faster than a gangbanger in Detroit! As for ways to spend money you guy are good but you got some serious competition out there. Been talking to RickH over at Buckeye and looking into changing out the front end to a RVS set to be able to upgrade the brakes. Ha! Let's see you pull off a group buy on that! :whistling::rotf: But me and my billfold are always here for ya when ya need me. Later Mike
  7. Love the idea of a compact trailer that's easy to store as I only need one for emergencies and recovery. BUT, my only concern on this trailer is the narrow width of 48 inches. With a heavy bike like a VR or RSV I'd prefer at least a 6 foot wide stance for stability. Mike
  8. Money is on the way. I'm locked in. Tell me what your next group buy idea is now so I can start tucking away my extra change now. I know you're going to do it I just don't know what yet. The suspense is killing me. :rotf::rotf: This is better than the Home Shopping Network! :rotf::rotf: Mike
  9. Condor. Are we still at the $225.00? If that's the number I fire it off to you tonight. Mike
  10. Hey woz. Get ahold of RickH at Buckeye. He's got access to them. I just rebuilt the carbs on my '84 and got all my parts from him. Had to order some in and he might have some in stock now. Invoice is in the shop but I think they were about $38.00 each for the needle and seat set. If you're thinking of replacing the seats, do a lot of research and ask questions before you attempt it. You will need more than the needle and seat set. You need the net filters, the o-rings and plugs for the top of the carb body and the tools to drill and blind tap a 4mm thread into the hole so you can pry out the plug. It's a project and a half to do the seats believe me. I've talked to guys with bikes over 140,00 miles and have yet to talk to one that has replaced a seat. So with that said the needles are the weak link here. The tips are vitron I believe and they wear out long before the seat. Clean the seat with a solvent on a Q-tip, not a caustic carb cleaner and drop in a needle and it will be fine. Like I said, I just finished my '84 tonight and it's running again. RickH is at www.Buckeyeperformance.com Tell him Snaggletooth sent ya. He will remember me for sure. Tell him you are a member here. My advice on parts: The bare minimum. Bowl o-rings Diaphragm o-rings Needle assmembies And then you learn how to adjust the bowl fuel level! Have fun and good luck. Feel free to yell if you have any questions. Mike
  11. You will like it. Good change. Just don't touch the bulb. If you do, clean it with alcohol. Oil or dirt on these things kills them. I think I paid $17 and change at Wally World.
  12. My package part #9003 on the top right corner. Silverstar H4
  13. Carbs done and mounted...........check Brace installed.........................check Rec/reg installed......................check Start bike...............................check, double check Monitor charging system............check Sync carbs.............................check Crap! Buy gas for bike.......................Friggin' Priceless! Duh. Thanks again. It looks good sitting there. Snaggletooth
  14. Well it looks like I'm riding drag on the this one. Let's get the ball rolling. Saddle up boys! :cool10::cool10: Thanks Jack.
  15. So the photos are a promo for selling the property?........Comes with it's own security support group? :rotf::rotf:
  16. Got mine Saturday morning. A damn fine looking piece of metal. Thanks Condor for your time and trouble. Great job on a great deal! :cool10::cool10:
  17. Hey. Been working on making the adaptor plate for the air box for my bike. I've talked to the guy that came up with this and he's been using it with much success and he's happy with the performanace. No down side it seems like. There is some grinding to do to the air box internally and there is no change in the air flow as far as restriction. No holes are added to the airbox The plate itself sits on the top lip of the box and we are both using 1/8 inch aluminum plate for that. The biggest part of the change is getting the plate to fit exactly to the box and the inner cut to fit of the filter (CA 3717) The corners of the filter need to be nipped a bit to fit right but that's not a problem. Downside: You can't go back to the old filter after grinding the inner lips from the box. Upside: Yammy filters run what, $42.00 to $55.00 bucks a crack so you put off as long as possible. The Fram CA 3717 runs $9.50 to $12.00 so it ain't a big expense. You change more often. Open the top, drop it in. Painless. I'm looking forward to finishing mine. I'll keep ya posted. Mike
  18. Howdy Just got my notification from the USPS that the brace is on it's way. Way to go Jack! :cool10::cool10:
  19. If you're hitting Wally World for boots see if they have anything in your size in the Hermans Survivor series. The name on the boot is the "Keith" Go figure. It's a SWAT style boot, non metalic toes, inside zipper, textile inserts and soles that seem to stick to about anything. I started wearing these boots last sumer and they have been impressive. The have a wicking liner, they are water proof, and that zipper make slip on slip off a breeze. I spend 12 to 14 hours a day on my feet in these boots and they are comfortable all day long. I ride in them and they have NEVER slipped out from under me on any surface wet or dry. They were about $76.00 when I picked up my first pair. The price dropped last winter to $48.00 so I picked up two more pairs. I'm still waiting for the first pair to wear out. I'm hard on work boots and these have out lived all the others for the money. And good luck on your carbs. I'm waiting for parts to rebuild the ones off my '84. Mike
  20. The HID's are great but if you are looking to try for an improvment on a budget give the Silverstar H4 (#9003) a shot. Drops in like stock, under $20.00 and it is much better than stock. I mounted a set of 55 watt driving lights from Wally World (for under $20.00) tied into the fuse block with a relay and the trigger wire spliced into the high beam on the head light. I installed a toggle on the dash to select rather or not I want them on when I hit the high beam or not. For about $45.00 bucks it was a heck of a jump in lighting and it doesn't appear to be causing any drainage on the system. Mike
  21. Nice looking bike. Won't be long before they start jumping in here and telling you blue is the fastest color. They know what color my trunk is cause they can see it from the back. LOL! Ok, look for these things. The fork bearing adjustment. Start there. Next check the tires for cupping and wear. The can of worms will open with this statement but I love the Avon Venoms on mine. Look into them. Worth the research. Next consider the fork springs age. Not the best springs to start with and a change to Progressives is a huge difference. Last possible cure, a upgrade on the fork brace. If you have the bearings right, the tires are good and the springs are decent, you won't think of adding the fork brace. Or changing the motor mounts to solid mounts, or adding a Progressive to the rear suspension, or all the other stuff that comes up in conversation. I did mine this way and I'm good for hands off at 85 MPH. Dead steady. And by the way, blue might be the faster color, but one hasn't passed me yet. (mine isn't blue) But again. nice looking bike and welcome. Ride Safe Mike
  22. When my daughter started feeding herself she earned the handle "Gator". Best thing to do was push the food in close to her with a stick and keep your hands clear. She's 16 now and still packs it in like it's the last meal she'll ever get. You can still lose a finger if you try to snatch something off her plate. How she keeps at 115 lbs I'll never know.
  23. If you need to make one improvement to your bike this is the one to make. I rebuilt my starter and wasn't happy with the change so I installed a set of Tupperj's cables. That did the trick! I thought I'd left the spark plugs out when I hit the button! Good hard spin and less drain off the battery during cranking. Good deal Tupperj! Thanks Snaggletooth
  24. I had major problems when I got my bike with the old duns on it. I cleaned, lubed and tightened the head bearing, did the Progressives, and added the Venons during the first few months I owned it. I can run 75-85 MPH and have no problems with control now. Dead steady with a light one handed ride at any speed. I have tried hands off at Interstate speeds and she's rock solid even through the grooved pacement. Sweepers and twisties are effortless. The only time I had problems with wobble was this spring when I rode her to the station to top off the tires, about 15 lbs low, and she wanted to wander. Once the pressure was back up she was fine again. Now I got to mention, this bike only has about 46k miles on her.
