  1. Hey Mike! How's that velvet seat of yours holding up? I need to recover mine this winter and I keep looking at the pics you posted of the one you did. I'm twisting my own arm on this one. Mike
  2. Riding without air is not advisable. It will beat the shock to death and not good for handling control. You could rework the air lines and install a schrader (?) valve, like a in a tire valve and use a hand pump to adjust the pressure to your needs. There are a few folks here that have gone that route I believe. Maybe someone will jump in on that subject. I'd go with a really really good wash up with baking soda and water to remove the acidity before getting too up close and personal with the repairs.
  3. It was 12 degrees here in Omaha this morning when I headed to work. The boss saw my bike in the lot and asked me when the last time I was drug tested was. LOL! But it had warmed up to 28 degrees by the time I got off work so I took the scenic route on the way home.
  4. Years ago there was an ad running in the back of several magazines. It advertised that for only $1 they would send you a, get this......"A empty 4"x4" cardboard box." It aways made me chuckle to wonder how may people bought an empty box. Years later I found out the person who ran the ad worked for a box company that had accidently made 20,000 boxes that were a bit under spec for a client. He had accquired the entire bunch pretty much for the asking. When asked what it all cost him.....his answer was "postage and envelopes, but I recovered that." He sold them all in less than a year.
  5. Ouch! Sounds like the quick solder fix is out the window. Get ahold of AtlantaDragonslayer on this site. I think he might have something that you can use. I think. Maybe. I think he was been playing with reconditioning some old ones. If not, they do show up on eBay pretty regular. How much other stuff took a hit from the acid. Body panels take a hit? Mike
  6. First question is what is the controler doing.....or not doing? A lot of problems with this are easy to fix with a quick soldering job. Mike
  7. Time for a meet and eat.....Honey glazed ham would be good about now.
  8. Santa! It that you! Found your listing and will be watching. What timing! Can you remember if it was the orginal model line or an version II? Also sent you a PM
  9. Glad to hear that! I did my years on the OTR circuit running the CanAm and that can be a bear in bad weather. Been watching your posts. Glad he's ok. Mike
  10. I like the idea of flipping the pins, shirts and what not to return the money back to the St. Judes fund. It would make a good foundation for the next drive.
  11. Condor, I'm in no hurry. If you want to wait them out I have no problem with that. Hell man, we've come this far. My season is over anyway from the looks of the freezing drizzle we're getting anyway. What ever you decide to do is cool with me but I have no problem with waiting a while longer.
  12. Well ok then! Jardines next time! LOL!
  13. Hey ya Pain! Still SOL on any relief from the PIA huh? It's a slow process for sure. Kids are creative aren't they? My daughter was about 9 or ten when I had my "incident". It didn't take long for her to figure out my attachment to that damned foam rubber donut and that became her target. Little things like putting something like a tennis ball in the middle and covering it with a blanket. Or her best effort ever was putting it in the freezer all night. That one backfired a bit as I started doing in myself after a couple of times. I can't say that it helped but the frost burn took my mind off the tail section. LOL! And don't give up on the romantic adventures my friend. All the screaming and yelling will probably get you some high fives and a few free rounds of drinks from your buds in the neighborhood at the local watering hole. Let them think that's the reason you walk funny! They don't have to know. LOL! So how's the dog holding up? Snaggletooth

    HOPE!

Gosh.....I'm touched there Tom. I'm sure I'll be thinking of you when I'm layering up my thermies tomorrow morning when it's in the 20's again and the wind is kicking up at 20 MPH. I love Nebraska. Sun burn and frost bite are possible on the same day. I just wish we had some scenic routes.
  15. Just remember Condor.....it's the thrill of the hunt that makes the kill worthwhile. Well, that was my best comforting speech. How ya feeling now? Better? I suppose you can see why I'm not a therapist. Hang in there. It's gonna happen. Soon. This year. Sigh.
  16. So what are these jokers saying Condor? They said a couple of weeks ago they were going to be cutting and bending the next week. They change their story?
  17. Now that's an insult! We have corn, cows, corn, more corn, some more cows, lots more corn and different colored cows. We have hills with trees, hills with sand, and hills of dirt. We have rivers and rivers with bridges over them. And some rivers have sandbars in them! What do these people want anyway? Nebraska, The Good Life. Boring.......But Good. That's why I ride In IOWA! They have scenic byways!
  18. yeppers. The WW XL works well. Closes up real good on the underside to.
  19. Hey Mike. When I first bought my '84 I had all kinds of problems with the engine revs running up. Mine turned out to be a carb problem and I ended up rebuilding them and the problem went away. Seems the carbs were overloading with fuel and it was loading up like you were pulling the throttle open. Floats and needles fixed it for me. A vacumn leak can cause a similar situation. A rubber line heats up and a crack will spread and the off she goes. As soon as it cools down it goes away.
  20. I feel your pain RoyalPain. Did the the Damaged Duck walk for a couple of months after I broke mine trying the be "Cool Dad" skating with my daughter. There is NO way to get comfortable in any position. I took to sleeping face down on top of a stack of pillows that left me in a some what undignified position that had the dog eyeballing me at bedtime. Now that is unnerving! As for that first attempt at riding again..........Stuff a glove in your mouth! I'm serious! I sounded like cross between a person inflicted with Torettes and a drunken sailor. Every tar strip, peddle, crack, pot hole or speed bump set me off exploring new combinations of profanities. I surprized myself at some of the words I knew. And the Doctor! He was no help at all. He had trouble keeping a straight face. His best offer was "What do you want me to do? Put your @ss in a sling?" Fine! I'd had that doc for too long anyway. Now that I think of it, he had the same smirk on his face as my dog. Creepy. BUTT, hang in there. In a few months you will feel like you can live with it. You get used to it. You can always put a staple through your lip to take your mind off of it for a few minutes. Hope this has been some comfort to you. Wanna buy a dog? He's house broken, loves kids, don't drink from the toilet, but tends to snort crack which is actually the reason he needs a new home. Did I mention his cold nose? Mike
  21. I learned the eBay term "Gently Used" means it hit a concrete wall at no more that 75 MPH! Makes ya wonder what "Ridden Hard" would look like.
  22. What's that old saying? Good fences make good neighbors. With a couple of mine I'm thinking barb wire and electricity.
  23. Last winter I was out for a weekender and it dropped to 17 F. I had my Clover pants with the thermal liner and they were fine. Had only a leather jacket and a thermal undershirt so I layered up with what I had packed and bought a pair of fleece gloves to wear inside my heavy leather rider gloves. Got by pretty well on the 150 miles back to the house. Got a LOT of strange looks from the cagers. It's been dropping into the 30's here lately and I ride to work everyday and some of my co-workers think I'm out of my mind. One of them packed his bike up for winter storage when the temps hit 50 the first time.
  24. Congrats Rose. Better start building those shelves now for the rest of the awards you will be picking up in the future. Nice looking bike!
  25. I have no idea on the book on that bike but if it is as clean as it appears and and with NO major problems I'd be seriously talking to the man with cash in my hand. 6100 miles? Not even been warmed yet. Keep us posted on what you find out.
