Real Problems Now- Antifreeze-

A standard screwdriver with a slim blade just wide enough to fit in the hole will get a good bite. Too narrow and it will slip out. -
Choke Question for the Carb Guru's
Snaggletooth replied to Condor's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Hi ya Jack It's got to be one of the blondes. My '84 is the exact same way. Did it before the carb rebuild and still doing it. Ya gotta be Wyatt Earp on the choke lever to catch it a keep her running. I'll be watching this one for a while. I'd like to find a cure for it. Mike -

Arm rest parts search
Snaggletooth replied to Snaggletooth's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Hey Dave. That is where I got the pics I posted in my opening post. Went a little rich for me just to rob the brackets for mine. LOL! Got me to dig mine out and take another look at getting them mounted. -
I'd go in for 1 set if the price is good. This is just the diaphragm itself right? No slider?

Arm rest parts search
Snaggletooth replied to Snaggletooth's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Well, I finally got to the box they were stored in. This is what my brackets look like. Are these like the GW ones? I've taken the seat off and can see no way these would mount under there. I see most mount on the rear crash bars but there would have to be more parts to the brackets for that to work. Any more suggestions? Mike -
Very slick! Nice clean line to it.
-
I hope I never run into a train with passing lights!
-
Hey Bubba Mounting driving lights (DRL) lower and to each side of the bike, like on the crash bars, to form a triangle with the head light as the upper point.
-
Just a thought here but could his oil loss on the left side cover be the crush washer on that one lower bolt?

Ok, the can of worms is open so I'll bite. I spent 13 years in traffic safety for transportation doing training for drivers. Part of my job was investigating motor vehicle accidents. In all of the couple of hundred accidents that I researched I never heard any claim that someone was blinded by lights during daylight hours. At night time, severe weather or heavy rain.....sure. Some of my standard questions were "Did you see the vehicle?" Most the time the answer was yes and because they had their head lights on. "What made you aware of the other vehicle?" Again, the majority answer was because the had their lights on not because the vehicle was doing something out of the ordinary. I'd ask did anything happen to distract them. Head lights or driving lights were never the issue contibuting to a day time accident. And there is solid information out there stating that a trianglulted(?) light pattern does make an observer more aware of a smaller vehicle. However, that deals primarly with depth perseption of that vehicles position. The issue is it was seen. Period. But the problem I have with your statements posted here is you contradict yourself from one post to the next. In your 1st post you state: "Besides, if you think running highs all the time is safer, think about when you half blind some 80 year old guy in a Buick Roadmaster, what do you suppose he will target fixate on, your brights." In your 2nd post you make the comment: "The closer you get, the less they want to, or are able to, look at you." That alone helps removes the fixation issue I believe. I'm not here to slam you Al, not at all. But almost every rider I know is concerned about their visibility to other vehicles as they well should be. But you made some pretty strong statements such as: "Driving in traffic during the day with a bunch of lights on is obnoxious and inconsiderate and it does have a negative impact on other drivers by blinding them." Bit over the top don't you think? So that said I'll leave ya'll to hash this out. Could be worse...we could be talking about loud pipes again. LOL! Mike

I run my headlight on high all the time in the daylight along with a set of 25 watt driving lights mounted on Squidleys brackets that are relayed off the high beam. It's been more than once that someone has started to pull over into my lane or pull out in front me at an intersection and then stopped. I firmly believe the brights are what made the difference and they would not have noticed me if I wasn't burning them. I'll go with what works. Mike

Hey Old V8 Nope, no backrest, much to my sorrow. But on that thought the passenger hand rails were not on the bike when I bought it. I picked up a set later to add on. May be a piece to the puzzle. Mike -

Thanks for the thought on that Sarge. I'll take another look at that. I'll post a pic of the brackets on mine when I can. Right now they are boxed up in the garage and that means I'd have to shovel my way out and dig to the garage door again. Maybe when it quits snowing, or if. God I love the Midwest! -
Ok. I have had a set of these since I bought the bike a couple of years ago. The PO's son had them in a box of extra stuff and said his dad had had them on the bike but he had taken them off years ago. They are in nice shape but for the life of me I could not see any possible way that they would bolt on to the bike. So they stayed in the box. My daughter has asked me several times to put them on for her. Now I ran across an eBay auction that had a set just like mine, except they had a whole different bracket assembly below the pivot. I hoped they would go cheap so I could part them out for what I needed but you know how that goes. Yeah right. These are pics from the arm rests from the auction. I'm going to ask if ANYBODY has a set of old brackets something like these laying around, gathering dust and just generally in the way that they would like to make a deal on. Just checking. Nosing around. I know some of you guys are still suffering from PMS and dieing for something to do........like dig in your old parts stash. I just need the brackets below the pivot. Let me know. Mike

Rear Tire
Snaggletooth replied to Hal Lutzinator's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I love my Avon Venoms! As far as wet roads these things are the best I've ridden on. The only time they ever broke loose was during an experienced rider class last summer. It rained all afternoon at the track and the last test was a timed run through series of curves and had to hold a speed of 25 mph through the last left hand sweeper. A couple of other bikes went down. My rear broke loose and drifted out and I backed off the throttle and it hooked right back up. Made my time and speed and discovered I don't like the taste of elastic waistbands. LOL! Had a lot of the other riders asking me what kind of tires I had. Now I'm used to the bike ...........I got no chicken strips left. They stick! -
Squeeze is right on checking the cables. First place to look. My '84 was doing that when I first got her. Just rev right up to about 3K and hang there. Nothing with the throttle would change it. I'd have to pull the side cover and turn the idle screw down to get home. Now I'll say this. The problem went away completely when I rebuilt the carbs. I was having problems with the needles sticking open and loading up on the gas. I could tap the bowls and the idle would drop. Maybe a trip to Wally World and pick up a can of Sea Foam for the gas. It helped with mine but didn't cure it completly until the rebuild. But look at the cables for binding and fraying first.

That's ok Gambit. We will give you directions to where we are going and have your coffee ready for you when you catch up. Get used to it. It never stops around here. As for those really fast blue ones I tell they are blue because I can see them in my mirror. I ride a blonde 1st gen myself but there is a black cherry '08 at a dealer here that is teasing me every time I'm in there. I might not be able to resist much longer. I like the style and the forward controls a lot and being 6'2" the bike fits me great. Ya never know.

Now that is excellent timing. I'm getting ready to install the heads I had worked on over the winter. That little table will be a big help. Thanks

It was years ago back in '84 when I was a much younger man with a passion for traveling. My current lady was cramping my style and couldn't make the trips I wanted to do together. I was cruising the local dives mourning my situation when this blonde caught my eye. She had a creamy, glossy sheen and all the curves in the right places. She was stylish, and well decked out, dressed to the nines you might say. Everything that draws the male mind. She held my attention as I slowly worked my way in her direction past a selection of other willing if less desirable choices. The others were only worth a glance and no more. I was infatuated. As I drew near her I became aware that she was already spoken for. All the signs indicated that she had someone else in her life. My heart sank and I stepped away saddened that I had missed my chance to know this desirable and fantastic lady. I went my way for years with other ladies, some as passionate as I was for seeing the country, but lacking that blondes charm. Some of those relationships were good and some ended quickly. The chemistry just wasn't there. I always thought of that long ago encounter and my lost chance at being with the one that I was so drawn to. Then a few years ago, I met another traveler and we talked about our relationships. I wandered on and on about my lost desire. He looked at me and said he had a lady he wanted me to meet. I was reluctant, I'm not one for set ups, but he told me knew of a lady that had lost her loved one and had been staying at his place for several years much to his wifes frustration. She needed someone to look after her. It had come to the point that it was time for her to go. I am older now and was looking for a lady to spend time with. A lady I could be comfortable with and travel again. I arrived at the fellow travelers home and met his wife. She was thrilled to meet me and gushed about how happy I was going to be. We talked for a while and they decided it was time for us to meet. We went downstairs and he drew aside a curtain and there she was. The blonde I had longed for all these years. If not the same, a twin to the lady I had seen years ago. That was it, the moment had arrived. All I could do was stammer, "Hi! My name is Mike" We hit it off right way. She was mine. The next weekend we packed up what was left of her possesions and moved her to my place. She seemed to enjoy the attention and responded to my care. She took on a glow that made her look young again. Friends came by and smothered her with compliments. She took it all in and made me proud. And good Lord I remember the first time I turned her on............. Wait, I forgot.......the bike right? That's my story and I'm sticking to it! Mike

Boomer.........I'm developing a deep concern for you. My ex started talking in the 3rd person and shall I say.........I don't think she has gotten used to that fancy long sleeved jacket the nice people at the "resort" gave her to wear. However, I do find your comments much more amusing than hers. Mikey likes it.
