You know........if they weren't predicting snow tonight I'd probably get a few tickets on the way to GA. Geesh! Nuttin comes up like this in the summer time. So the race is on. This should be interesting.

Yeppers.......He's keeper! If he isn't handing out parts he's answering questions. Been there for me a few times. Thanks Bob

Check out this thread on batteries. Good info and it turned up a great battery. The Deka ETX18L is for the 1st gens and the ETX20L is for 2nd gens. This is an AGM battery that out performs the Oddessy by quite a bit and far cheaper. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=33375&highlight=deka&page=4 I think it was $82.95 including shipping. I bought one, Condor and a few other have to. I got mine in April and it has been put through the wringer all summer. I ride my bike on my work route and it gets started 20 to 30 times a day. All weather. The day it arrived it showed 12.8 volts right out of the box. Sat on a shelf for two weeks and still showed 12.8 the day I installed it. I installed a digital volt meter in the dash and every time I hit the key it shows 12.8 or better. Everytime. The bike sat for the last 3 weeks in my garage with a problem and in temps down to 32 degrees. When I got it fixed up the volts still showed 12.8 and fired right up. I'll say it's the best battery I ever bought and the by far the cheapest. Get ahold of Josh at: http://www.bohannonbattery.com/html/deka.html He can fill you in on the details, but I got so say it's the best quality and price out there right now. Tell him Snaggletooth sent ya. If you have any questions shoot me a PM.

Ok......winter is starting to set in already and the riding season is coming to an end for some of us. It's time to find other things to keep our minds entertained during the off season that we dread so much. What to do when we can't ride? Something exciting, something stimulating, something that will give you a rush when sitting inside during the cold an snowbound time that takes away our most basic pleasure. Well......I found something. I think it may work for me. After being on this site for a couple of years I do honestly beleive some of you may already be familiar with this method. (rather court ordered or self administered.....I won't ask) After wandering the web last night looking for a winter distraction I found this listing and it's not too expensive, no real high upkeep costs and there may even be ways to use it during the riding season.....such as keeping your passenger awake and attentive on a long tour ride. So with no further ado allow me to introduce my answer to being bored to death. http://www.agassiztrading.com/museum/electro-shock-b.htm

I had a good sized crew of those suckers hanging around our company a while back. I was out back one day on a break and the lil beggers decided to keep me and my snack company. It turned into "their" snack quick enough. They like Cheetos. A lot. Same thing next day. I got three Cheetos before the fight started. The next day I had a game plan. I gave up a few Cheetos willingly. After they got ahold of those first three they gave me what I assume was a crow verison of a butt chewing and left me alone. They haven't bothered me since. So If you desire a little time alone with your snack and have crows around..........throw them a few Hot & Crunchy Cheetos dipped in Red Devil Hot Sauce. They still come around, they watch, they stare me down.....but the Cheetos are mine now. They have good memories.

I need help
Snaggletooth replied to Monty's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Hey Monty. Hope ya get a lot of years out of that TCI. It was one of the best condition ones I've seen. Glad it worked for ya. Mike -
I might have been the one to mention boats.net. I've used them for exhaust gaskets, seals, o-rings and such a few time. Good turn around on the getting the parts and more reasonable on price than the dealers. I like them.

Ahh Geesh Dingy........You made my day. I feel a lot better knowing I'm not the only one that don't get out enough. LOL! I got to say that is a lot of work to convert this info. I'm sure it will be a great help for some of us that need a little extra coaching when it comes to rubber coated copper thingies. From me.......thanks a bunch! Mike

If anybody is looking for valve cover gaskets there is a listing for them on ebay now for a fair price and cheap shipping. It's a Buy it Now for NOS and take as many as you want. Lighting up my Venture
Snaggletooth replied to Flyinfool's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
When I installed the rear light bar and the LED lights in my saddle bags I built a control box that mounted on the left hand controls. I also made an entire new wiring harness for all the extra lights I installed to keep it as a stand alone system. When I made the harness found there was plenty of room along the left side of the frame following the primary harness. The new harness was wrapped in 3/8 plastic loom covering and it fit well. When I got up to the rear section where everything branched off for the lights I split it all off under the cover for the air compressor and grounded it there. All the different lines were fitting with 2 wire trailer plugs so each item, bags and light bar could be unplugged and taken off without messing with the harness again. Worked out pretty well and there is more room than you would think. Your set up looks excellent. Nice job. I'm planning on changing out all the lights in the light bar to LED's over the winter so I'm probably be asking questions as I get into it. Later -
Dan you sound like we could have fun together. A while back some of my co-workers were hanging out in our back lot behind the store. One on a HD Wide Glide, one on a C50T, another on a Valk and me on my '84. The lot had just been done with new surface and it's about 75 yards long. The C50T made a couple of runs back and forth and was pretty proud of his bike. The HD made a couple of runs and made it to 3rd gear. I made one run and and just made it into 2nd gear and raised the front wheel off before I had to shut it down. Bottomed out the progressives for the first time getting stopped. LOL! Well there was a slacked jawed stone silence when I pulled back over to them and I was looking at the Valk rider. All he did was glance at his cell phone and say "I gotta get going". Since then I haven't had a word of smart remarks about my "golden oldie". These old girls can really throw people for a loop when you give them the twist. Makes me grin everytime.

Stator question
Snaggletooth replied to bootneck's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Hey Bootneck. Not sure on the VMax changeover but it sounds like a possiblilty. Most the parts on these things are interchangable. The stator is mounted to the inside of the left hand forward case cover itself. All you need to do is remove the peg & shifter link, secondary cover and then the forward cover. Can be a bit harsh to remove with old gaskets and the magnetics pulling it but it will come off. The only reason you would need to pull the rotor is if you are rebuilding or replacing the rotor itself or the starter engage clutch. Mike- 4 replies

The 26H is the only model for the '83's. About any 41R will work on the 84's up to 89 I believe. Later models were different because of the single pickup. I have one from an '87 in mine now with a spare from an '86. Both work fine. I had replaced my bad original with a 26H and it did run fine, just some difference in the boost specs. I couldn't tell the difference to be honest. So the 41R is the way to go for your '85. Any number after the 41R that is just year to year changes. Mike

Rott pretty much said it all. Everytime you fire the old girl up you will be riding with a good friend.

I got to ask....where did you find complete kits for the carb rebuilds? I had to order everything one piece at a time. I think the basic seals and gaskets are the same but the jets should be different. The floats from a VMax will be a direct replacement for the 1st gens carbs if needed. Hey Squeeze........need help here.

On my '84 I run 42 in the front and 48 in the rear. Over 11,000 miles on the Avons and wearing well. No noise, no handling problems. Mike

Welcome to the real world of motorcylces! Just please tell me the bike isn't blue! We have enough fun with the 2nd gen guys but man....you say blue and Yammer just......well he yammers about blue ALL the time! And Yammer I wanted you to see this pic because you will ONLY be reading it from the BEHIND the bike. LOL! And by the way flash....judging from your profile pic.....you are a full fledged member here already.

Hey Yammer. Yeppers that was one of my "uninformed" purchases before I found my way around this site. Doh! I used it for a few months in my '84 before I found out it wasn't supposed to work and FINALLY found a good 41R for my '84. It did what it was supposed to do. Clean little unit. I hung onto it as a spare in case mine failed but figured it needed a good home in the right year of bike.
