Just a thought here but if the bike is way low on coolant wouldn't the temp gauge NOT show a reading? One thing you can do if you think the thermostat is stuck shut is turn the valve above the radiator to the "ON" position. For normal running it should show "OFF" but for now setting it to "ON" will bypass the thermo and let the coolant move through the system. Also did you check the overflow bottle to see if it was filled to the proper level? I'm assuming the gurgling noise you are hearing is coolant going back into the bottle. Hey Squeeze.....am I correct on the temp reading if the coolant is low? I know older cars are like that. Mike

Thanks guys......found 'em. Mike

I was watching the listing on eBay on the Markland highway floor boards up to the end. Alas.....the other guys threw money faster and farther than I did. So I'm still looking. The question is what opitions are there for a similar type of highway floor board? I have had pegs on the bars and didn't care for them. These looked like they would sit out pretty well and not interfer with the lower Baker wind wings I run. Any suggestions for a fit on my '84? Mike

I'm gonna throw this out there for ya because I had a similar event a while back. First of all......how much fuel you have in the tank? Before you pull the petcock you will need to get the fuel out. But if I were you I would try this first. Remove the seat and you will see the fuel level sending unit on top of the tank. Remove the wires at the plug and the four bolts securing the unit and lift it out. Looking into the tank you will have a good view of the pickup filter on the petcock. I had rust problems in my tank and the pickup filters on both tubes, (run and reserve) were shot. Not a huge deal on the run pickup but the reserve filter was shot and the rust particles had filled the petcock and was cutting off the fuel supply. With your single pickup it will be the same as the reserve pickup on a later model. Be right at the surface of the tank body. It might be plugged at that point. But pulling the sending unit will give you a visual of the inside situation better than pulling the petcock. If it's rust you need to know now before fighting every thing else. A pic of what you will see when you pull the unit. This is a run/reserve petcock off an '84.

Well the local multi-brand bike dealer here had their big night show for Yamaha. Had a few Yamaha factory reps on hand and FREE HOT DOGS! The hot dogs turned out to be the highlight of the night. LOL! Just sayin'. Not a RSV in sight........a T-D, a row of V-Stars, plenty of crotch rockets and a 2010 V-Max. So I finally got a rep cornered and posed the question........Will there be a RSV in 2011? Got a shrug. He had no idea. But he did say "if" there was we could expect a choice of two colors. Like I expected more? But on the bright side........I got to park my butt on the V-Max. I likey! Felt like a mini-bike after the '84. Would have been nice to fire it up and go for a spin but that wasn't going to happen. And back in the used row they had a '89 Venture with 40,000 on it for $4,998.00. Burgundy with ghost flames. After a good look it looked like the new paint was there for a reason. But the hot dogs were good. Free. Always good. So much for the big event.

Right hand side, behind the passeger foot peg/board. It may be stuck in the reserve position. Not a problem with these bikes. Most guys just leave them there and watch the gauge. Turn gently a little at a time. The plastic T-handle will be touchy.

Very cool. That would knock a few bucks off their Charge Guard. Nice lil unit. Thanks Mike

Great Idea for an Interior Trunk Light!
Snaggletooth replied to dragerman's topic in Poor Man Tips and Fixes
Can any of you guys post a few pics of the inside of your RSV trunks? Top and bottom. I'm playing with something but I've never seen the inside of the RSV trunk. I just did the inside of my '84 trunk and working on a couple of better ways to light it up. What I made works ok for the MKI & II but want to make it smaller and perhaps automatic with a magnetic switch that would work on all models. Thanks -
I'm game if everything works out. Mike

Amen Dave. It was -1 again here this morning. Gray and dull. Craters in the streets that would eat a VW. Gonna need a dirt bike in the spring to get around if they don't get 'em fixed. It's gotten so bad here in Omaha they have those big electronic road signs that tell you to slow down because of rough roads on the INTERSTATE!!! And they aren't kidding!!

Yeah Gary we get the point but his bike is BLUE!!!! Yammer.......ya want to explain this? By the way.......I'm a bit envious right now. That looks nice.
-
Wow......so I'd have to guess there are no baffles. Or do they just screw in. LOL! Pass me some more rags and another quart of chrome polish!
-
There ya go Dave........let Dingy figure it out then all ya got to do is catch him to get them! Wait.......you got a blue MKI......shouldn't be a problem. Just ask Yammer!

Hey Dave. It would be my guess that they would swing outward to let the passenger on then fold in to be in position. Never seen a set on a bike so just guessing. Hoping somebody here has some ideas on it. I looked them over when I got the bike and checked all the boxes of stuff the PO sent along and never found anything that looked like it went along with them for mounting. Just hung them in the basement and never really thought about them again until I saw the eBay listing with the different brackets. Maybe somebody will jump in here with their thoughts. Sent a PM also. Mike

Ok......here are the pics of the set I have. Any thoughts on as to where these would bolt up on a MKI? Like I said I never really looked into it.
-
Is this something like what you are talking about? I saw these on eBay last year listed for a VR but off of a GW. They caught my eye because I have something very similar but a different mount that the PO gave me when I bought the bike. They were not mounted and I never really looked into a way to bolt them up. I'm looking for my pics of them but if I don't find the pics I'll post new ones later tonight.

Now that one might possible for me! Don't know what I might have left to fix by then but it's at least a chance to meet up with some of these folks. And you're just north a bit of Sully. I got family over there. Might be a good trip to make. I'll keep an eye on this one. Later Mike
