If it's coming out of an overflow hose under the bike you have a float acting up. Either the float is soaking up gas and sinking or you got crud on the needle or stuck under it. Time to Sea Foam or open it up and take a look. As far a gas smell I had that late last year to. I did find that I had not tightened a clamp on the fuel line going into the pump completely and it had a small drip dropping onto the exhaust pipe. Not a big leak but enough to cause the smell. Couldn't find it with the bike off. Only dripped a bit when it was running.

I washed and waxed the car today. Even did the windows inside and out. I'm fully expecting snow tonight. -

And there ya go....... Nice job Gary. That should help some of the guys out with starter problems. Much simpler than what the PO did on mine. Mike

I'm with Bob on this one. Considering what a decent rear light bar goes for let alone a nice hitch with the hardware....the thing is a steal at that price. And even the shipping is reasonable. Curious what the thing ends up going for.

My daughter was the reason I got a cat. It would eat everything that hit the floor and then lick her clean. The cat hit 18 lbs at one point.

Howdy and welcome to the nut house. Check out the left side of the main screen and you will see the MAIN MENU. There is a section there on Venture History. That will explain the difference between the years and the features. I have an '84 myself, a 1st gen, and love it to death. Great ride. The 1st gen is typicaly a more nimble bike, for a 850 lb bike, due to the riders stance on the bike. The 2nd gen went to the cruiser styling. If you're riding the Max and love it, but want more comfort and features for the long ride, the 1st gen might tickle your pickle. If you want something different where you can stretch out a bit...the 2nd gen will do it. As you know the motors are all about the same. 1200 or 1300. Bulletproof. Love the revs. And there is probabaly a line forming as I type to give their thoughts. Reverse gear is available only if you have a girlfriend/wife that don't mind pushing. Hang around. Things to learn here. Mike

Help - Gas nipple came out of Petcock
Snaggletooth replied to Globewalker's topic in General Tech Talk
From my experience...........make sure you give the JB Weld PLENTY of cure time for use around gasoline. I've done a few repairs to petcocks and fuel line fittings with JB and the only ones that never gave me another problem were the ones that cured for more that 48 hours. As for the JB Weld Quik Set.......not even worth the effort. No luck at all. Just my 2 cents. Mike -
For some reason I'm drawn to the Blondes......... Nice looking bike!

Part cross reference

Yep, I bought one of the CDs a couple of years ago. You can find your model and it lists all the parts by number, or you can type in your part number and it will list all the other models that also use that part. Sure helps widen the search grid when looking for used parts. Used with the CD for parts breakdown itis a useful tool. Now remember most that stuff is dated pretty badly and prices are not current or even close (as on the breakdown CD) But it helps when buying on the net. -
Hey Jeremy, Glad you found the info useful. I'm not one to push a product unless I'm really impressed with it. You can tell I like this battery. I had to buy a new lead/acid when I bought the bike. The next summer I bought another one. $127.00 that time, thought it was the best. Last year I needed another one. Then I ran across that post I listed and started looking into it. Condor had bought one and liked it then Josh posted the tests he did against the Odessy. Sold. Been nothing but impressive performance since I got it. Only put a tender on it for a couple of hours before I popped it back in the bike last month. Hadn't been charged since I took it out of the bike mid December. Still shows 12.8 every time. You won't be buying another battery for a long time. Mike

Will this fit?
Snaggletooth replied to clint_1985's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
If you're talking about the plastic lower chin off the MKII it will bolt right up IF you have the lower engine guards with the mounting tabs that stick out. If not you will need to find a set off '86 and up. If your are talking about the metal chin that bolts right on to the '83 - '85. NOW.....that thing is on the metal ones you need the spacers to mount it. From what I've seen.....they usually don't come with them. Lil fab work would be required. I put an '86 chin on my '84 last year to protect the spin on oil filter. Like the look. Had to buy the crash bars. Mike -
starter clutch 1983 v/r

Had mine done a while back. Great upgrade. You go from stock (pic 1)....look familair?... to the new sprag engage (pics 2,3,4) You might want to PM Squeeze and see if he has any options on your side of the pond. He's out of Germany and it was his baby to start with. Dano is the guy doing the machine work in the states. Maybe Squeeze has something cooking on that side. Ain't gonna be doing mine again anytime in the near future. Mike -
Not worries about Josh and the Bohannon crowd. Great folks to deal with. If Josh says he can get one to you, he'll get it done. Now the border and shipping costs.....that's another issue. I've had my DEKA for a year and it's still hanging tough. Bikes been sitting for a week and the meter still said 12.8 and 100% charge this afternoon. I saw another post on the cost being so high in Canada. I think it was over $135.00. Wonder why it's that much up there?

From what you said, that they had been into the carbs to do jets.....I'm thinking maybe they didn't get a bowl gasket back on right, or knicked one. My made a mess that way when I tried to reuse an old bowl gasket the first time around. I'm not familier with the 2nd gens but I'd be looking at the fuel line connections first off. If it was a float problem and it's sticking it should be draining out though the overflow lines to drain back in front of the rear tire. And perhaps it could be that they didn't get an overflow line back on the carb nipple right if it is a float issue. But if you can get enough room and light up there to look at the carb bodies and they are wet around the bottom, you probably have a leaking seal on the bowls. Back to the shop with a stick if it is. Just my thoughts, Mike

I got a buddy that runs a service shop and he's going to check with some of his contacts tomorrow to see if they will take a look at it and if they can do it soon. If not, let me know what you want for it and I'll go from there. Thanks. Mike
