I'm starting to wonder what the CCA is on Skydoc_17 (Earl) I mean Energizer has the bunny.......... That man just keeps on rolling! Great guy to do business with. You're going to like the DEKA. Mine is over a year old and still running at peak performance EVERY day. Mike

Yep. The fuel indictor has bars that stack from the bottom up to and will cover the pump icon at the top when full and start dropping as you use fuel. When you get to the bottom bar the red warning light will flash and as you continue the warning light will stay on constantly as you get closer to empty. Pull the seat and check the connections on the fuel sending unit and if needed you may need to remove the unit itself and check it for working properly. Not a big job. 4 bolts. With the sending unit out of the tank you can plug it back and and move the float up and down and your will see the bars moving on the display if it is working properly. It might just be stuck, or at worst failed. Not had to find another one. On eBay all the time. And listed on Pinwalls site. Good time to eyeball the inside of the tank for rust issues and the condition of the petcock filters. Mike -
You want to speed up the gasket cleanup stop by a NAPA parts store and get a can of their "Gasket Remover" in a blue can. Great stuff for the old baked on stuborn stuff. About falls off after 5 minutes. I've used it alot. BUT.....the down side (maybe) is it will also remove the clear coat on the cover really quick. If your covers are in great shape you would want to mask them off with a aluminum foil before you spray it on. If they are yellow looking you are ahead of the game and will get the old coating off nicely. Polish them up and they can go back on naked or you can give them another coat of clear coat. Duplicolor (NAPA) has the high heat engine paint also. If you want to go full out check the classifieds for Skydoc_17's listing for his clutch upgrade kit. That has the new springs, the full disk to replace the half disk and the gasket you will need for the cover. I mean......as long as you have to take it apart anyway. Nice kit. Made a great improvement in mine. Mike

Ok Jeff..........I get it. If my head starts to vibrate......move the heck over right? I was playing with the H9 projector lights the other night. Patched them up with jumpers on the work bench to my test battery. The low beam if well focused and had a nice break on it so the beam does not go too high. Now the high beam is going to be another story. I hooked it up and pointed it out the window. I live on 88th and there is a 3 story apartment building on 90th. I mean the side of the building lit up. I started laughing when I looked up and saw a guy on a 3rd floor balconey shielding his eyes. Pulled the plug and pulled the shade. Took me a while to quit giggling. Still thinking a Batman logo on the headlight cover might be interesting at night. Later Mike

Jeff.........er.......really? "I will be riding around with expired plates making me a prime target for every LEO that is looking for an excuse to pull someone over." Come on buddy........we're a bunch of old guys (mostly) riding around on OLD bikes. I've been stopped 3 times in the last two years under the surmise of a "Helmet Check" and spent 20 minutes answering questions about the bike. Now........the train horns you are playing with........they might wanna take a look at those!!!! Ride in stealth mode my friend.......low beam.....no horns. Later Jeff Mike

The squeal is the cable being dried out more that likely. Disconnect at the front hub and remove it, clean it and lube it. I use reguar cable lube but I do mine every year. As far as being off on the speed by that much, somebody else will have to help on that part. The clutch is hydraulic. There is no adjsutment. Best thing to do it bleed the clutch master and lines and that should do it. They do run right out to the end though normally. As to the hesitation, I had it when I got my bike. I've done so much work to the carbs I can't say what was the answer. But, the main air mix screws should set about 2 1/2 turns out from the bottom and a sync will help a bunch if it's off. The diaphgrams should be checked by removing them and holding them up with a bright light behind them. ANY pinholes will affect the performance. Look closely. Sometime not all the obvious at first glance. There is a thread here somewhere on replacing the diaphgrams and the source to buy them at a fair price. There is way to reseal them and see if there is a huge difference in performance. If there is.......they need replaced. PM me if you need to try that and I'll fill ya in. Mike -

The "Coal" is carbon breaking off from around the cylinder heads. Sounds like some good build up in there. As far as repair on the body work any good two part epoxy will take care of that. Make sure it is for hard plastic or ABS. I just did a lot of repairs on mine this winter. You might find some useful info in this thread. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=46291

Well things are coming together. I bought a kit with the hardware and adaptor plates from Dingy a while back and been locating the proper lights and power plugs to fit. Got the lights the other day and the plugs should be here next week. The stock headlight bucket has been drilled and the plate fitted and I assembled the whole thing yesterday. Hella 90mm H9 Projectors high and low. Mean looking lil bugger ain't it? These should toast the fur on Bambis butt. So much for overdriving the headlights now. Last year I'd been seeing info about PayPal user accounts being hacked and playing havoc with the accounts. I saw that they offered a security key that works like the security in a garage door opener.........rolling numbers everytime you press the button. You just log in as always and then it prompts you for the six digit number off the key. Press the button and enter the number and it is only good for 30 seconds and then the number changes. For $5.00.......cheap insurance...... It's better than nothing I guess. I've always been leary of problems using PP but with their security device and the support of the resolution center that I got today.........I'm feeling better about it. Mike

Well I guess there is nothing like a mild threat to get things rolling and PayPal helped get things taken care of. I've used PayPal for a long time and never had a problem with a supplier or eBay seller and had to file a dispute. I placed an order for $147.18 with a company back on 3/17/10 for parts on a bike project. When I checked out I saw they had PayPal so I used that option. Over the last four weeks there have been 4 voice mails left on their system with no reply, 4 e-mails sent with no response, and only two occasions were I was able to actually speak with a human only to be told they had problems with their supplier, yada yada, and the next time on 4/7 that they still did not have the parts for shipping and MAYBE sometime later in the month.......maybe. Weird.....before I placed the order they comfirmed that they had EVERYTHING in stock for immediate shipping. So during that phone call on the 7th I canceled my order. The owner stated that he was canceling the PayPal payment and would refund the amount to my PP account within 24 hours. Let see......from 4/7 to 4/15 ......is more than 24 hours right? Another phone call that went to voice mail with no reply, another e-mail requesting the status of the refund......no reply again. So late last night I opened a dispute file on PayPal. Wrote a nice note to the company stating my position and requesting that it be dealt with to avoid a claim. figured it was worth a shot. Not making any progress with these folks on my own. Stopped by the house before noon today and checked my e-mails. Got one from PP stating my dispute had been canceled. What the hey? Just opened that sucker last night. Checked my PP account and what did I find? $147.18 refund. In less than 14 hours at that! I guess the idea of a PP claim against them wasn't something they wanted. Lil do they know that would have been better than me stopping by with my hickory stick. Was getting to that point. So score one for the good guys. Ok.....vented..... Mike

I kept the rear Metzler ( I don't know why) that was on the bike when I bought it. It still looked like new. It was 13 year old then. I'd feel safer running it than that tire.

I bought the 1/10. Less distracting. It's like setting a multimeter for .100 and watching it ramp up and down for little changes in current. The 1/100 would be constantly flickering on the dash. The 1/10 just ticks off the 10th and a nice steady reading. They make an interesting point on the color choice on the web site. Bright blue does affect your night vision a bit. I have a LED indicator on the switch panel I built and it's getting changed out to an amber ASAP. Drives me nuts. It's always in the corner of my vision. The red is easy to see except in bright sunlight. Don't bother me at all at night. The pic is the switch panel. The LED don't look like much in the daytime but it's really intense at night. I've had one over a year now with great results. For the money Earl is asking you won't find a better performing battery. I promise you.....the tender will be a thing of the past. Mike

It's a nice instrument. Great quality. And a bit higher price. No regrets on the purchase. Been a couple year now I think and it's been through rain, heat and below zero temps in winter storage. No problems. Oh yeah......get the bezel mounting kit to. Comes with a rubber gasket and makes for a nice clean mount. Mike
