Snaggletooth replied to Brake Pad's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Wait a minute,,,,,wait one danged minute. You mean a dealer is volunteering to do a major overhaul on ALL the carbs UNDER WARRENTY.....without a fight? On their dime? Oh man.....times are tougher than I thought. Or they know something they aren't telling us. But I'm with Bubber on this one. Weird -

Snaggletooth replied to GaryZ's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Once in a while when I stick all the oil against the rear of the engine case.....it will blink on for a few seconds. I hate seeing the icon....but I love the WOT!! -
side stand ...she be broke!
Snaggletooth replied to Trader's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Welcome to the world of heavy, old, worn bikes!! It's a real hoot getting off one of these things without a kick stand ain't it. Go with Dingy's fix. Easy, inexpensive and strong enough to do the job. I had an extra sidestand when mine broke but I did Dingys mod and went with that. I ordered another bolt for the other stand in case of future problems. Hope it never happens again. I'm not fond of singing alto. Mike -
In this case I think it's pretty much entertainment value.

Yep....shipping charges. Here we go. Did he mention where you could see the bike?

I've had Avon Venoms on mine for three seasons now. I'm a daily rider rain or shine. Been out there down to 17 degrees on them to. I feel better on Venoms than any other tire I've had under me. I trust them on the wet roads to the max. I've had them break loss on me sure, it's gonna happen. The center of the lane is usually where it happens when I'm coming to a stop on a wet surface. On a wet morning I need to give them a little extra time to warm up as they feel a little slick right off. Last fall I got caught at work when it started snowing. Pulled the cover off and headed home. It's wasn't freezing but it was staying on the road. By the time I got home all you could see on the front of the bike was where the headlight had melted it off. My neighbor, a non-rider, and thinks I'm insane for riding anyway came over and asked me "Weren't you afraid?" Well heck yeah! I was terrified I was going to get salt on my bike! But like I said, I trust them.

Hi Bill, Yep.....my daughter loves the words "Going out for a spin." All get back these days is "See ya tomorrow." She's learning. I checked your profile to see if you had a pic of your bike but Dang!!! You look the kind of guy that carriers a big stick! Or are those just knee pucks for when ya lean into the curves? I checked a lot of places around here for recovering on my original seat. Ran $250 to $350 for the seat and $100 to $150 for the back rest. And no....that wasn't leather either. I was told about as place over here off of 84th that will redo one for about a $100 to $150. I'll check on the name. I found a like new seat on eBay for $40.00. Glad you're enjoying the bike. Mike

Stator - R/R replacement
Snaggletooth replied to Red Baron's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Did you get your's through Partshark? They seem to be the best price so far from what I'm seeing. $128 bucksand change. Did they provide the connectors also? You will find that R/R on the '09 V-Max breakdown. -
Morning DONATALIE, Yeah, I understand that. I worked in transportations safety for 13 years and worked with way too many guys in your line of work over those years. Accidents cause nightmares for the drivers, their families, the companies they work for and the people to who are there to determine why they happend and how. You guys provide "Proof beyond a reasonable doubt" that is the bottom line. What you do valuable to everyone and thank you for that. I still have accident investigation files I can't even stand look at anymore. I've seen drivers that caused fatal accidents set free at the scene and I've seen drivers held until charges were filed. I've worked with LEO's that had to turn drivers loose and seen the frustration in their face when they did it. They knew......nothing they could do. It just bugs me .....the same as I'm sure it bugs a lot of LEO's. Just venting. Mike

Well it's been over a month since that accident and I just saw that there are civil suits being filed on the young man that hit and killed the riders. That was expected. Eventually...... What I also saw was the NO CRIMINAL charges has been brought against him yet. It's been five weeks. He's out walking around. No jail time. Not being held. What I saw is that they have released the results of his blood alcohol test. FOUR TIMES THE LEGAL LIMIT!! Medical personell have stated he should have been in a coma at that level. What else I saw was that a man that beat his girlfriend so severly that she had to have facial reconstruction done was just sentenced to FIVE years in prison. What else I saw was that four young men that attacked, robbed and killed a pizza delivery guy last Friday were arrested and are being held on $2,500,000 and $5,000,000 bonds. I guess it's because of the nature of each act that it's different right? No real intent to do harm, no premeditated act, he wasn't in control of his actions at the time. Whatever. It just ain't rght ya know. Bugs me a bit. Mike

I had a Silverstar in mine for a couple of years until I changed over to the Hella H9 dual setup this year. Had no problems at all with it. Not that I think it would affect the Hi/Low of the Silverstar but did you touch it with your bare fingers? They do not like the oils off the skin. They will fail quickly if handled without clean gloves or being cleaned with alcohol after touching. I'd go with a bad bulb or poor conncetion myself.

:sign yeah that:Kind of what I said.....not exactly.....but simiiliar. mrich12000........Thanks for the offer but Skydoc_17 hooked me up with a used OEM so I'm back in operation.

Question for those that have had rotor jump off.
Snaggletooth replied to frankd's topic in General Tech Talk
You scared it! That was the bikes way of saying "Don't you dare use that pry bar!!" You're in control now. The hard part is over. The only other thing that is hard to get off is the old gasket material that baked on for years. LOL!- 18 replies

Lower Temp Radiator Fan Switch?
Snaggletooth replied to DONATALIE's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Con: Lowering the operating temp of the engine is not the cool (pun) thing to do. The system was designed to run and perform within a set temp range. You may be affecting the overall life of the engine. If you are concerned about overheating at times, consider installing an overide switch to turn the fan on when needed. Mike -
Back in shape
Snaggletooth replied to DesertRider's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Mine is a totally flirt when I do something nice for her. So.....how many miles you got on her since you got it back together? You're supposed to be riding......not beating on the keyboard!!! -
The Shindengen R/R we are looking for is the OEM issue for several bikes. The number Squeeze gave is the R/R listed on the Partshark site on the 2009 FJR1300. #1D7-81960-00-00 at $128.65. #19 on the break down. I'm waiting to find out if there is a possiblity of buying a number of these. And then we would have to go back to the other source for the connectors. Thanks Squeeze. I would guess the link you just posted is for the 2009 V-Max.

Dan has been working on just locating a supplier for the Shindengen R/R from the last group buy. He's not having much luck. The last seller has not been responding to his e-mails. I've been writing e-mails to about every possible source that I found to see if I can help locate a supplier for a group buy.....or even provide single units at a similar, reasonable price. We're looking.

Question for those that have had rotor jump off.
Snaggletooth replied to frankd's topic in General Tech Talk
I only used my propane, and sparingly at that. I didn't want to create more heat than normal operating temps as well, ya know, rubber seals in there. I think the only reason mine did what it did was the rotor was pretty warm and then the temps dropped pretty fast that night to around 38 degrees in the garage. Just the right combination of hot and cold to break it loose. I know a couple of guys have damaged their pullers getting these things off. Proabably the first time the rotors ahve ever been removed in 25-26 years. Mike- 18 replies

New for sure. Why risk it? And the odds of finding a used Buckeye upgrade would be pretty slim anyway. I installed one 2 or 3 years ago and it will probably be in there for a long, long time. Does a great job. Mike
