Well the new HJC Sy-Max II I ordered arrived today. I've never been a fan of full face buckets before but my experience was rather limited with them. I think this one will help me get past that. I went with the flat black finish as the fashion folks say black is "slimming". Well, ok....it's a XXL so I'll go for anything that makes my head look smaller. Everything helps. But slipped, pulled, tugged or whatever you call putting on a full face. It ain't like dropping the half helmet on for sure. Felt a little tight but worked it around a bit and it found its sweet spot. Comfortable enough. Dropped the chin bar down and it is really close to my chin. Not hitting but I can feel my beard rubbing it. Might need a trim. Yep, that will help. Dropped the sun shield down and it sits nice without rubbing my nose. It could be a shaped a bit different to go lower so you are not looking at the bottom edge. The shield had enough room to fit over my favorite sun glasses to without hitting them. So far so good. I've read complaints about needing two hands to adjust or release the sun shield. They must have changed something but once it gets half way down and locks I can set it anywhere between that point and fully down and release it with one finger. Well it was 36 degrees and a light rain out so what better way to test the helmet I'm going to wear in bad weather. So I geared up and headed out for a ride. A little Plexus on the visor and off I went. I got to say it looks like it's the next favoite bucket. With the visor all the way closed it stayed dry inside. A lil bit of moisture at the bottom seam where it seats into the chin bar but with that rubber seal there it stayed on the out side. I had to crack the visor a bit when I stopped to to clear the fogging but it cleared instantly once I was moving. Not bad. The vent in the chin that blows the air up onto the inside of the visor does a great job. I can't feel any air on my face but the visor blows clear very quickly. Line of view is excellent. Don't have to tilt my head to see the gauges and side vision is far better than I expected. I stopped for a bit and put on my fleece mask. That took care of the bottom of the chin chill. Then off to the Interstate!! As far as buffeting....way better than catching wind under the visor of the Trooper I usually wear. No stress on the neck at all. The fun parts was pulling up by a cage at a light, their wipers going full blast with the the windows closed and the folks inside looking at me like I was insane. How did they know? LOL! But I arrived home warm, dry and safe and happy with the new bucket. You that own one of these know all this so forgive my raving. It's my first full face since I bought my Vetter. Been a few years. For the $159.00 bucks though New Enough......not a bad deal. HJC still works for me. Thanks to those that commented on this thread. Mike

You are going to like the Progressives with the new brace. Makes a world of difference in the handling. As long as you are in the mood to throw money go with the stainless steel brake and clutch lines also. NOW THOSE make a differnce in stopping power!!!! Mike

Sorry....straight across swap.....nope. But.......if you change the entire front assembly you get the rotors and better calipers. Someody that has done this will jump in here soon I'm sure. Mike

I guess that would be a good reason to take a bison along on a hunting trip. Makes for a good distraction to get the bear out of the stand. They do love fast food.

Hey ya Gray Ghost, That line is now considered stolen. It shall be my new screen saver at work. Being of the hearing impaired crowd.......it just works for me. "I am not ignoring you. My fancy new digital hearing aids have decided that you are noise, and have eliminated you " But I ordered a new HJC today from NewEnough. Couldn't pass it up for the price. A little wind noise in the bucket don't bother us old deaf folks much. Thanks for the the replies. Mike

Heya Randya, Be about the same story for Woot, 1saleaday, and probably eBay also more than likely. I have no problem with the purchase or the camera itself. Got it within a few days and it was new with everything included. In my case, I have no problem with what I bought. It does have a good picture and it does what I expected it to do. The issue with the signal interference can be over come I'm sure. It works fine on the car dash, just wavy on the bike where I had it mounted. Working on an option for that. With any purchase by cyberspace there is a risk as the guys that jumped into the LED driving lights found out. I was going to jump in also as it seems like a fair deal, but a minor issue with quality and the signal interference came up so I'm waiting to see how they get past that. Still...fair enough for the price. But the warning is appreciated, and will be kept in mind. And Craigr..... I did pickup a higher capicity (and quality) memory card for it already. Installed it and set it aside. Haven't finished up my idea for the camera mount yet so no test run with the new card yet. Be nice if it was that simple. Hoping for the best. Later Mike

What type terminal strip should I use

I'm no fan of Scotch-Lok type connectors by any means. I cut over 2 dozen of them off my bike when I bought it. But I found something that works real well for splicing and quick repairs at the Westlake hardware store a while back and keep a few in my "crisis kit" in my tools bag. A couple of dabs of dielectric and they are pretty much water proof and removeable. Come in 2,4,6 and 8 connectors. -
Well, New Enough is hacking at me again. They have been offering up some things that I have been wanting to improve on for a while. Today I got the notice on the HJC Sy-Max II going on sale. I've needed to replace my full face helmet, a Vetter I bought when I bought my GL1100, (and no I don't wear it anymore), to something more modern. LOL! I have the HJC Trooper style half helmet that is my daily bucket. Fits great, stays cool and most comfortable helmet I've ever owned. But the colder weather is setting in a full face would be nice. But from what I'm reading the HJC Sy-Max II has some pretty good reviews and has been around for a bit. Now today, they listed one in my size, which is a bear to find and for a decent price. Anyone here own one of these and what are your thoughts on it? The sun visor is one of my main concerns. Nice feature, but seems to be the weak spot in the reviews. Thanks for any comments. Mike

Had electrical fire 1100 miles from home need HELP!!
Snaggletooth replied to themickeyd's topic in Watering Hole
Ron, Is the bike able to run at all or is it completely Fubar? If it is able to run safely with no risk of burning up more loom you might check for bigger local bike dealers close at hand. Some have a ramp built to unload pickup and straight trucks. Even a heavy equipmet dealer would have a ramp to load and unload. Even some bigger grocery store have hydraulic docks that go from ground level to about 5 ft. high. Most of those will handle about 5 tons. Just thinking out loud. Keep us posted on your progress when you can. Mike -

Ron, Your best bet for loading the dead rig is find your rental truck and then contact a local towing company and ask for a tow truck with a recovery flat bed. They can tilt the bed down and winch the rig onto it then raise the bed to the level of the box floor of the rental truck and be able to roll in in. I've done this a couple of times with dead trikes. A few more $$'s to spend but less chance of more damage. Good luck. Mike -

I don't think they do. I looked a few times over the last couple years and never found anything available for the 1st gens other than some bolts and fittings to replace broken ones. I was lucky enough to find a NOS set of smoke lowers on eBay last year. Been watching for a set of uppers to match but not much hope for that I guess. Good luck. Mike- 5 replies

Ken knows the right tool for the job. Sounds like he's happy with your work to me buddy.

Bet there are a few good ghost stories to go with that, eh?

Well.....I just opened both files with Open Office. Save the valve shim file form Dingys post to a file on your computer. Then go to your Open Office and select "Open" from the drop down menu and select the valve shim file from where you stored it. Should pop right open. If that don't work PM me with your e-mail and I'll send you copy of the file to try that way. Mike

And at the whip snap of rawhide................ouch!

Thank you for saying that Mini. I've been telling that to the ladies for years.

Yep............28 degrees when I left for work this morning on the bike. Guess my new jacket is going to work out fine. Had to open up a couple vents. Getting a bit warm on the way in. Felt a bit foolish pulling my bike into the lot. A couple coworkers showed up in their cars wearing parkas. Guess their heaters didn't work. Figures though.......the same guys that call in when it snows and can't make to work.

Didn't think those would last very long.
