Gauges are fine if you spend the $$ for quality, and I'd go oil filled myself, and can be calibrated. Once you invest in a rack of four gauges, you have a few bucks tied up. The cheap ones......waste of money. The old school mercury stick is the best tool to use but sadly.....EPA don't like them. There are several liquid sticks out there that can be bought for a fair price but they all have their own lil tricks to get them to work properly. I have the Carbtune and it works fine. But I still check my work with a merc stick. I'll learn to trust the Carbtune someday. Mike

It is a single track and the "bike" does flex a bit. There are pressure pedals that you use like steering a skid loader. Not for cutting cookies but it would be fun to play with. I suppose the term "countersteering" is the key here. It was a prototype back in 2006. Must have come along since then.

I don't see any problem with leaving it turned on. You probably leave it on all riding season anyway right? As you don't need to be concerned about flooding the carbs because of the fuel pump there should be no issue. I leave mine on all the time, even during winter stoarge. I flip it back and forth about once a month to just make sure it still moves. As you are planning to ride it whenever possible leaving it on is good. Just remember to keep that tank topped off with fresh gas after each ride to help limit the condensation in the tank. Sure makes the spring time fire up a lot easier. Mike

That subject was brought up at a security meeting a while back. It's turning into a major problem during the holiday shopping season. You never know if you are being scanned. They made the point, as mentioned in the lead in story for the vid, that something as simple as cutting a piece of foil to about the same size as a bill and keep inside your billfold along with your folding cash can prevent the scanning. The foil creates a shield as it is wrapped around the credit cards inside. Simple enough. Should work.

Throttle , It's a long way

You have no idea how often I hear that. -
Outside the box again.....and in the dirt.

Gary had a good point. Unless the clutch has a cog drive the belt is limited in contact footprint. I do need to see the centifigul from the old sled to see if it can be used. Brian, I've seen some of the new sleds set up for racing and they do hook up rather nicely. LOL! Maybe I can find some local sledders to take a look at how they are set up. The high stall would be great in this this application. I did run across the http://www.revloc.com/index.cfm/id/14/Revloc-Clutch/ website. They have several choices on centifigul auto clutches that are used in dirtbike setups. Going to be looking into that. Maybe they have something that can deal with 100 HP. If I can find a centifigul auto clutch that has lockup, the ability to change the weights, a replaceable chain sprocket, and can deal with having 105 HP dumped on it.....this may work without breaking the guys bank. I mean afterall.....how hard can it be? All he needs is idle and GO! GO! GO! If this works out, maybe I'll set him up with a 1/4 turn throttle. That should make it fun to ride. :rotf: -
Well, it seems everytime one of my buddies comes up with a crazy, hair brain idea they end up coming to me. I must have a rep as a nut job to be targeted like this. Well, yeah, done some odd things myself. I'm gonna need all the advise I can get on this one. So here's the deal. Buddy used to hill climb Yammy Y2's that he stretched out. He's getting back into it and he's shooting to do the 600cc 2 stroke class. Sounds simple right? Buy a 600cc 2 stroke and stretch it. Simple. Nope. Not this guy. He's found a sled engine, a Rotax 570 that pushes 105 hp. He's got a couple of frames that it will fit into nicely. The deal is.....the drive system is the dual centifigul clutch/pulley set up from the sled. Get the picture? So.... the drafting of a plan is on the board to find a way to go to a single clutch/belt drive to more than likely a jackshaft to convert to chain drive to the rear wheel. In my mind....too much HP would be lost through a jackshaft setup. Not to mention the issues of tenisoning the belt from clutch to jackshaft. My thought is to use a single notched belt from the centrifigul clutch to a notched hub pulley on the rear wheel. Tension adjustment would be simpler and less power loss. Now I might mention the last time I messed with centifigul clutches was when I built my first mini bike. I see this working but it's going to take some creative engineering to pull it off. But like it has been said here before......Nothing is impossible. Anybody care to throw some ideas out this way? Mike

I've notice something over the last few days. The tach on my '84 don't seem to enjoy the cold mornings at all. I've been dealing with temps in the teens and 20's most mornings lately and when I fire the bike up the tach just don't want to get with the program. Don't want to move at all or if it does it's sluggish. Later in the day as it warms up into the high 20's or better it's back to normal. I've had this bike for three years now but this is the first time I've ridden it daily into the winter months so I've never noticed if it was problem before in the cold. Anybody else have this as an issue? Mike

I don't recall seeing this bike posted here before so I thought I'd set 'em up. Nice tribute to our folks in service.

Wait......could this be the beginning of the VIN Rescue Truck?

I used the digital voltmeter from here. http://www.digitalmeter.com/cgi-bin/webshop.cgi?config=ent-datel There is also this unit. If I was going to step up, I'd go with the Kisan charge guard for more features. And quality. https://kisantech.com/view_product.php?product=CG-10 The one I used is tough. Three seasons now of all weather riding with no issues and subzero temps in storage. Mike

They are showing a banner on http://www.1saleaday.com/ I've done a couple of buys from 1saleaday with good luck but they seem to be catching a lot of negative feedback lately on bad items. Makes me a little leary of buying from them again. Might want to research them on the BBB site.

MK 1 Choke linage Q
Snaggletooth replied to The Cheese's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
If you look at the choke setup.....fuel enrichent units......you will see the linkage for each side connect to a shaft on each side that has a lever that connects to the enrichment plunger on each carb body. There is a set screw on each lever that can be loosened allowing seperate adjustment of each plunger. Set them all the same and you should be good to go. Don't need to bend anything. Just make sure that when the choke lever is off....all the plungers are fully closed. -
Check out http://www.newenough.com/street/jackets_and_vests/textile_jackets They have a decent choice of jackets and many come in a selection of colors. Can't beat their prices either. Not to mention great customer service. I just bought a Scorpion Strike from them for $69.00 and it a great jacket for the cold weather.

Left for work is morning when it was 23 degrees. Warmed up to 38 by the time I got off so I took off for a ride. Had my Scorpion Strike jacket, Hydro pants, a pair of fleece lined gloves with Thinsulate liners and the HJC full face. Before I realized it I was stopping for gas. Pulled up to the pumps and the folks filling their cars were looking at me like I was a Yeti. LOL! The only other bike I saw was a nice looking HD dresser over in Iowa. When I ran past him I had to kind of laugh. All he had on his head was a leather Brando hat and his face was a bit red. His eyes may has been frozen open. But.....he was out riding. It's supposed to get hot out tomorrow. Might hit 48 and the low tonight is only going to be 33. Perfect! Be a good morning for a run for biscuits and gravy in Missouri.

Ouch! That was painful.

I'm sorry to say this but man......that's not even a decent snack. But then again when people have asked me what part of the turkey I want.................. "The left half" is the only proper answer.

I have a set on my bike. Why? To cover the holes the PO made installing a set when he had it. Do they work? Well as stated before I haven't hit a deer yet.......but they have run up onto the road a few time to see how fast I was going. So....no...they don't scare the deer off. But in my defense......they are chorme.

Radio backlight?
Snaggletooth replied to mlew's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Just speaking from what I know about the one in my '84.......nope. Old school radio ya know. -
Open cockpit..........sweet!! Had to be a rush!

I've sent e-mails several times in the past asking questions about parts and never had a response from them. Now call on the phone.......they were very helpful. I asked about why I don't get any response to my e-mails and the guy just kind of laughed and said "can you imagine how may of those we get every day?" Good point I guess. That said, I have had very good luck on the parts I've bought from them. Most the things I have bought have been through the store...not eBay listings. Mike

For those familiar with Honda Nighthawk: I just got a request to work on a (claimed to be) 1994 Honda 650 Nighthawk with a clutch problem. Issues describes are kind of vauge at this point but what I'm running into is I'm not seeing a '94 650 Nighthawk in my searches for info. Only a 750. I'm a bit familiar with the mid 80's Hawks. Did Honda make a 650 up into the 90's? I haven't seen the bike yet so I can't refer to VIN# or other identifiers. Just trying to get a head start on this before I commit to taking it in. Mike
