VMax 4 brush starter pictures
Snaggletooth replied to dingy's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Hey Gary, Here is a question that I have been asked a few times. Does it look like a 4 brush plate could be installed in a 2 brush housing to convert it? When I changed out my 2 brush for a 4 brush I was in such a hurry to get the bike running again I never took a close look at it. Just a quick eyeball told it would not work. But....I know you are a talented tinkerer......so I'll let you field that issue. Next! Mike- 3 replies

I'll see if I can ahold of of my friend and get a message to his son. Both have moved away and his son is always being transfered around these days. My friend used to crack me up as he doesn't own a computer, (and never will), or a cell phone and his home wouldn't be allowed in the house if it didn't have a cord. He thinks technology is the end of the world as we know it. And then his son is the total techy and gizmo freak. If I can get ahold of his son I can get some info on how it's done.

A friend of mines son is a rep and tech for Apple. He has been splitting systems on Macs and installing the PC OS systems on them so he can run on either side independently. Been doing it for about 5 years now and it does work. I asked one time if it would work the other way, installing the Mac OS on a PC. Said yep, it would BUT it takes him about 5 hours to set up the Mac to run PC OS and a lot longer to do PC OS to the Mac OS. Sounded like it was a rather complicated operation, well to me anyway. But it sounds like it can be done.

Yes they are. It's been more than a few times that I mentioned I had been looking for something and I'd get a post back or a PM asking for my address. You just don't find that much anymore. This site has been an inspiration in paying it forward. Mike

I bought HJC Trooper style a few years back. Now it's my favorite bucket. Great fit, removable liner, removable ear flaps and a snap on bill. The venting actualy seems to work pretty well and keeps my noggin cool on the hottest of days. I never cared for 1/2 helmets until I bought that one. I'll replace it with another of the same style when the time comes. The pic is of the next newer model (without vents). Mike

Huh Oh! Sounds a bit familiar. Had mine do that and I was smelling just a trace of anti freeze inside the car at times. Never could find a leak or a puddle. Then one day the dam broke and anti freeze came pouring into the car. The shop said the core was plugging up causing the heat changes and when it got corroded enough it just blew out. And this winter my Lincoln TC is doing the heat/cool routine. I'm a smart guy, head for the shop to check it out. Did a back flush to clean it out and no difference. Estimate to replace the heat core? Sit down. And this is from a trusted friends shop who does any work I can't do....... $639.00 bottom end...with a lot of luck. Why? The dash panel has to be removed to access it. Geesh! I miss my '64 Impala. That was easy to work on. Now a thermo sticking open can cause a similiar problem with low heat at low speed driving. Mike

I found a law years ago that in Montana I believe it was, illegal to throw a moose from a flying airplane. I don't really care but I just wanted to watch them try to put the moose INTO an airplane. I can understand throwing one out once it was in the air. Probably a rather unruly passenger.

Top Lid Question
Snaggletooth replied to SC89Venture's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
And if you really want to snug it up........and feel like tearing into the bike a bit......... Where the false tank cover is retained with the screw under the fuel access door the screw goes into a bracket. That bracket is held in place by four bolts, two on each side. You can loosen those four bolts a bit and that bracket can be rotated a little front or rear. I made a grommet out of rubber tubing and then rotated the bracket towards the rear of the bike a bit and the cover tightened right up. No more shakey. But then again I found that out while I had my gas tank out and all the plastic was off. I think you can reach those bolts by just removing the side panels. Mike -
If that ain't the truth.........

I admit, I'm not familiar with the MKII's a much as I'd like to be. The Ventures are pretty thin in my area. I don't get to see many close up. Now, along another path to your issue, for a couple of bucks and a lil bit of work, you could make a module like I did to use as a switch panel and install the meter in that. It mounts in an existing hole and no chopping in the body parts. The available flat spots on these bikes are kind of tough to find that will allow the install of ANYTHING! LOL! Every time I found a spot I thought it might fit.....something was too close under it or something was in the way. I even considered cutting a hole in the false tank cover. Glad I didn't. There has been some discussion on this before but most decided on a different type of meter or stuck it on with what ever would hold it. I'm sure some of the other guys will pop in here sooner or later. But check out the switch mod I did and maybe that will lead you to a new idea. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=34990 Mike

This worked out well for me. The toggle above it is the control for it. The meter is installed direct to the battery so I can just walk by and hit the toggle to check the battery at any time without messing with the keys. I don't worry much about the mositure. Running down the road in rain it is a pretty dry spot. If I have to park outside I use a half cover on the bike anyway. It's been in the bike now for two seasons and no issues with the meter at all. After the tragic accident that took the lives of four riders here last August this sounds like a nice memorial to them. Council Bluffs memorial to honor four dead cyclists Council Bluffs, Ia. — A western Iowa group has started work on a new building that will honor four motorcyclists killed in a crash last August. Ground was broken Saturday for the Fallen Four Memorial Building in Council Bluffs, and construction is scheduled to be complete in August. Keith Callaway of the Western Iowa American Legion Riders said the facility will "bring awareness to what happened to our brothers, but also the impact it has on families, communities and the nation as a whole." The victims were Dennis Chaney, 62, and Dale Aspedon, 49, both of Glenwood, Steven Benscoter, 62, of Pacific Junction and Jay Bock, 48, of Omaha. The men were returning from a motorcycle rally in Sturgis, S.D. http://www.desmoinesregister.com/article/20101213/NEWS/101212014/1001/Council-Bluffs-memorial-to-honor-four-dead-cyclists

That's what I said yesterday. Almost 50 and cloudy and got in a couple hours of riding time. Then I woke up this morning at 3:00 am and it was 30 degrees and some light snow on the ground. By 8:00 am it was down to 13 degrees and snowing sideways. Still blowing white like crazy and they are saying the temps will drop to below zero tonight. Guess I might as well throw the cover on the bike for a while. Sigh......
