Bad Boy Horn - Am I missing something???
Snaggletooth replied to elmicko's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I'm don't own a 2nd gen so I might get slapped up back da head on this, like that would be the first time, LOL, but maybe you were thinking like I was on your install. I had trouble like yours when I installed my Bad Boys on my 1st gen. Bongo bailed me out on that deal and got me right. My horns wouldn't even kick on unless the bike was running and then they were not all that loud.....until I got the wiring right. I was thinking that the horn button was the source of the power and the horn when to ground. Actually not that way. The horn does ground but the horn button the closes the circuit on the ground side. Using that schematic showing the install of the relay allows you to throw full power to the horns without running it through the OEM horn button. As they said, the button would smoke before long with a hot load pushing those horns. Do the relay and you should be good. You'll know when you get it right. -
I remember seeing a couple of them around. I thought, "So that is what a Honda 305 Dream looks like all grown up."

Greg, you can be the new pitch man for marketing some of these ideas. You're right on track with my way if thinking here.

Ok....so maybe somebody else beat me to that. What about...... Take the cast members from Survior, I'm a Celebrity, Get me out of here, Big Brother, and please, please the ones from Jersey Shores and drop them off on a desserted island. No host, no supplies, no camera crew. Nuttin. Then in six months come back and drop off the crew from CSI and have them investigate the causes of death. Think of the the time you would save watching TV! No series....only 1st and last episodes. Two shows! That's it! And all the free time what would be open for new programing with the elimination of all those other shows. I'm just spitballing here.

Battery question?
Snaggletooth replied to Eldermo's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Check out the info on this thread. The testing done by jobo24 (Joshua at Bohannon Battery) was what really sold me. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=33375&highlight=deka&page=4 Some info on the battery to fit your 2006. http://www.bohannonbattery.com/html/deka/etx20l.html My bike has been through some tough times with starting problems, engage clutch failure, burned out R/R, stator failure, and a lot of daily starts. The DEKA has held up through all of it. Still showing 12.8 on the meter everytime . I've been through a lot of batteries. Some sealed units and L/A ones I paid over $130.00 for. The DEKA has out performed them all. Not bad for the money. Mike -
I've got to admit, I'm not a huge fan of TV shows today. Not a lot on that interests me. Honestly.....I gave up on cable long ago and only bought a converter when they dropped the broadcasting. (Under threats from my daughter) I turned the idiot box on the other night and flipped through the channels. Nope.....nuttin worth watching. So.....I got to thinking I can not be the only one that wants to beat the box to death and make some extra room for something useful. Like inhouse parking for my bike. So rather than wreck havoc with a sledge hammer I decided to try to change the programming of what we see. Thought I toss it into the bull pen and see what other folks might want. Dancing with the stars ........ not good. I read an article a while back that a man took a shotgun to his TV during that show. I'm sorry, but I understood that feeling. But then again he pointed the shotgun at his wife also. Again...over the top but hey, I can understand that also. She probably was holding the remote. Now they have spun that off into "Ice Skating with the Stars". Ok. Not working for me either. One of my ideas that I want to summit is this. Let's add a twist to "Ice Skating with the Stars" ok. Pair the professionals ice dancers up the professional hockey players. See where I'm going with this? Make it interesting....add some excitement....throw in a lil danger! I'm thinking this would be a popular show. So anyone have an idea for a new show? (I haven't ridden in two weeks, so forgive me) Mike

Battery question?
Snaggletooth replied to Eldermo's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Another vote for the DEKA AGM batteries. Been using one in my 1st gen for two seasons now and couldn't be more satisfied with it's performance. The are American made, heavy case AGM at 12.8 volts. They seem to go for weeks of non use with no voltage drop and storage life is hard to believe. Mine sat in the basement last winter from mid December to March and never had a tender on it. Didn't need it. Touch base with Shydoc_17 for sure. Mike -

VMax 4 brush starter pictures
Snaggletooth replied to dingy's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Hey Gary, Here is a question that I have been asked a few times. Does it look like a 4 brush plate could be installed in a 2 brush housing to convert it? When I changed out my 2 brush for a 4 brush I was in such a hurry to get the bike running again I never took a close look at it. Just a quick eyeball told it would not work. But....I know you are a talented tinkerer......so I'll let you field that issue. Next! Mike- 3 replies

I'll see if I can ahold of of my friend and get a message to his son. Both have moved away and his son is always being transfered around these days. My friend used to crack me up as he doesn't own a computer, (and never will), or a cell phone and his home wouldn't be allowed in the house if it didn't have a cord. He thinks technology is the end of the world as we know it. And then his son is the total techy and gizmo freak. If I can get ahold of his son I can get some info on how it's done.

A friend of mines son is a rep and tech for Apple. He has been splitting systems on Macs and installing the PC OS systems on them so he can run on either side independently. Been doing it for about 5 years now and it does work. I asked one time if it would work the other way, installing the Mac OS on a PC. Said yep, it would BUT it takes him about 5 hours to set up the Mac to run PC OS and a lot longer to do PC OS to the Mac OS. Sounded like it was a rather complicated operation, well to me anyway. But it sounds like it can be done.

Yes they are. It's been more than a few times that I mentioned I had been looking for something and I'd get a post back or a PM asking for my address. You just don't find that much anymore. This site has been an inspiration in paying it forward. Mike

I bought HJC Trooper style a few years back. Now it's my favorite bucket. Great fit, removable liner, removable ear flaps and a snap on bill. The venting actualy seems to work pretty well and keeps my noggin cool on the hottest of days. I never cared for 1/2 helmets until I bought that one. I'll replace it with another of the same style when the time comes. The pic is of the next newer model (without vents). Mike

Huh Oh! Sounds a bit familiar. Had mine do that and I was smelling just a trace of anti freeze inside the car at times. Never could find a leak or a puddle. Then one day the dam broke and anti freeze came pouring into the car. The shop said the core was plugging up causing the heat changes and when it got corroded enough it just blew out. And this winter my Lincoln TC is doing the heat/cool routine. I'm a smart guy, head for the shop to check it out. Did a back flush to clean it out and no difference. Estimate to replace the heat core? Sit down. And this is from a trusted friends shop who does any work I can't do....... $639.00 bottom end...with a lot of luck. Why? The dash panel has to be removed to access it. Geesh! I miss my '64 Impala. That was easy to work on. Now a thermo sticking open can cause a similiar problem with low heat at low speed driving. Mike

I found a law years ago that in Montana I believe it was, illegal to throw a moose from a flying airplane. I don't really care but I just wanted to watch them try to put the moose INTO an airplane. I can understand throwing one out once it was in the air. Probably a rather unruly passenger.

Top Lid Question
Snaggletooth replied to SC89Venture's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
And if you really want to snug it up........and feel like tearing into the bike a bit......... Where the false tank cover is retained with the screw under the fuel access door the screw goes into a bracket. That bracket is held in place by four bolts, two on each side. You can loosen those four bolts a bit and that bracket can be rotated a little front or rear. I made a grommet out of rubber tubing and then rotated the bracket towards the rear of the bike a bit and the cover tightened right up. No more shakey. But then again I found that out while I had my gas tank out and all the plastic was off. I think you can reach those bolts by just removing the side panels. Mike -
If that ain't the truth.........
