  1. All of the above mentioned things are certainly factors in selling a bike today. One thing I keep running into with folks looking for a used bike is the concern over the miles. There are so many people out there that think a bike with over 25K miles is on its last leg. You try to tell them a bike like a Venture, RSV, BMW or a GW are just getting broken in and will run into the 200,000 mile range with proper care and they think you're nuts. Just don't know quality when they see it.
  2. The digital voltmeter you're looking at is a good one. I installed one in my '84 about 3 years ago. No problems with it at all. Mike
  3. The only thing I've ever seen close to that kind of damage was when a neighbor got tired of trying to scrape though some very heavy ice on his windshield and threw a bucket of hot water on it. Nice burst pattern across the whole shield. I miss that guy. He was fun to watch.
  4. I've been riding again since last Friday when the weather took a turn for pleasent. One thing is for sure, the cagers are not looking for us yet. (Like the majority ever do?) Need to be an full alert all the time and be prepared for unexpected moves by the cagers more than ever. It's a shame anyone has to die doing what they enjoy. No matter which person was at fault....there is no doubt it could have been avoided.
  5. Been seeing a few on them on eBay lately.
  6. It's about the same around here. There is one stealer that will do tires NOT puchased from them for $30.00 each....off the bike. But the last time they did a set for me they mounted one backwards and forgot to balance them. So much for them. I go to a local independent parts shop for a lot of my stuff and a year ago they were charging $45.00 for mounting and $17.50 for balance off the bike for tires not purchased from them. I stopped in the other day to check on their prices for a new set of Avons. About $140.00 higher than Internet on the set. Ouch! I checked on their mount and balance prices and they had dropped them to $30.00 for mount and $7.50 for balance. I commented on that and the parts guy just laughed and said "We are finally getting to use our equipment". They were advertising a tire sale at 70% off on "select" tires. Took a look around and saw that all the "select" tires had date codes over 4 years and a couple were almost 10 years old. I'd have to guess their tire sales have not been so good. LOL! The new sales guy was gung ho on selling me a set of "high performance" Shinkos. Best tire on the market according to him and ALL the sport bike riders love them. Well I guess if you can put a set of tires on a bike for under $150.00 bucks you can afford to do burnouts with them. Independent shops are more willing to charge an affordable rate these days. Times are tight for them to and well, money is money. Do what people need done for a fair price and they will come back. Took some of these shops a lot of years to figure that out.
  7. Give yourself a mintute and think.............Full Frontal. Even if your wrong it's still a fun thought.:big-grin-emoticon:
  8. Sorry Bongo....... Nuttin that simple. Besides, I already have these remember.
  9. Hey David, Thanks for the offer but I got what I need.
  10. Don't know how far you were into the bike but if you had the seat off I'd check the connections on the sending unit. Pulled mine loose once.
  11. I saw a fundamentalist Muslim extremist fall into the Rio Grande River this morning. He was struggling to stay afloat because of all the guns and bombs he was carrying.Along with him was an illegal Hispanic drug cartel member who was also struggling to stay afloat because of the large backpack of drugs that was strapped to his back. If they didn't get help, they'd surely drown. Being a responsible Texan and abiding by the law to help those in distress, I informed the El Paso County Sheriff 's Office and Homeland Security. It is now after noon, both have drowned, and neither authority has responded. I'm starting to think I wasted two stamps.
  12. Thanks David. That helped answer my question.
  13. Ummmmm....nope. Good time to good for a 4 brush starter.
  14. Anybody got a pic of the front of a MKII they can post real quick? I need to compare the areas around the headlights. Something about like this pic... Thanks Mike
  15. Ok...let the fun begin. The starter is only held on by the two bolts that you see. The starter body extends into the case and has an O-ring on it and it is a tight fit. Pulling it straight back and a wiggle will get it out. But.....in order to remove it you will need to remove the thermostat housing to get the room you need to remove the starter body. That can be a bear at times. Look and see if the screwsare still Phillips heads or maybe have been changed to Allens. Hope for Allens. Pray for them. That's another story if you have problems. It is also helpful to remove the bolts that hold the radiator in place so you can pull that forward a bit. Don't need to remove the hoses.....just a lil more room. But what is the issue with the starter? I always ask first before pulling one out. Opps......forgot about the other thread. Proceed....... Mike
  16. You won't regret it Dan. Check out http://www.bohannonbattery.com/html/deka/etx18l.html or check with Skydoc_17. He's been selling them also. The AGM's have an unbelievable discharge rate. I had mine on the shelf for about 3 1/2 months last winter and never needed a tender on it. Never dropped far enough to worry about it. Gave it less than a half hour in the spring and it was back to topped out. I left town last year for a few days and had bumped the toggle for my running and marker lights to the on position. They are on a seperate circuit so no key needed. When I came back 4 days later I opened the garage and it was all lit up. That was 26 lights! Granted they are all LED's but it had very little affect on the battery. Fired right up. Joshua from Bohannon is a member here and he did some tests between it and the Odessy. The DEKA outperformed the Odessy on CCA's. Tough lil bugger is all I gotta say. Give Ugly some love Yammer!!
  17. Hey Yammer, Nope...no charge since I pulled it. It was showing 12.8 on the voltmeter and 100% charge on the tester the day it came out. Been on the shelf downstairs since then and showed 12.7 when I hooked the digital meter back up on the bike today. I rode for about an hour today and I'll bet it shows 12.8 on the meter in the morning. I installed this battery in April 2009. The same battery I rode about 25-30 miles home on when I fried my R/R last summer. It's been through starter failures, engage clutch failures and during the regular riding season I may start the bike 20 times day every day as I use it on a service route. You may have noticed I always jump in with comments on the battery threads. This is why. These DEKA AGMs seem to be bullet proof. Never had a battery perform on a bike like this one does. No better battery for the money by my book. And Amercan made. worth.... Mike
  18. It got up to 38 degrees today. Been below freezing for quite a while. Streets are for the most part dry. Then the itch hit me. Even worse, the forecast for the next week is for temps into the 50's. Came home and dropped the battery in the bike. (The DEKA I pulled out in mid December and no charge since then) and let the pump prime up. Hit the button and it cranked for about 30 seconds and fired up. Ah..... such a sweet sound!! Let her warm up a bit and wandered off around the neighborhood. My face hurts from grinning. Maybe ride to work tomorrow........ The itch is gone.
  19. I got lucky and found a good set on eBay for about $25.00 a while back. Probably won't see another set for that price for a while. They are great in the summer to keep the heat off but I remove them in cold weather to feel some of that engine heat. There was someone here a while back that made a set using smoked plexiglass and heated it in the oven to shape it. Looked pretty good. Mike
  20. Hey George, I'm going to throw in here on the Caswell Tank Sealer. http://www.caswellplating.com/aids/epoxygas.htm I used this kit two years ago on the tank of my '84. Was having rust problems and it solved all issues. Easy to use, hard as nails and you don't have to worry about getting the inside totally rust free. It actually bonds to any remaining rust. I checked my tank after the end of the first season and saw no problems. Checked it again after winter storage in freezing temps and checked it again before I parked it this year. I can see no sign of any changes since I did the coating. This stuff is thick and hard. Fills any thin spots and seals everything. I'll never recommend any other type of sealant again. PM me if you have any questions. Mike
  21. So pardon me for being curious......but what's the back story on how you ran across a deal like that? One heck of a catch!! Nice looking stuff. Mike
  22. DEKA AGM. Going into it's 3rd season and still going strong. 12.8 volts every time. Talk to Skydoc_17 about them. He sells them. Mike
  23. That would be interesting to me. Just a hop, skip and a jump out of Omaha. Mike
  24. Getting the same thing in extreme. It's appears to be coming from an address of a cousin that I rarely see in CA. They are all addressed to my daughter and they appeared to know a lot about her. That's the scary part. I called the cousin and she said that her facebook and outlook had been hit and EVERYBODY that had been in contact with her had been receiving spam constantly. She had over 400 e-mail addresses on her outlook. She been getting a lot on angry calls. Not really her fault and she had reported it to facebook but not much she can do other that apologize.
  25. Thanks for the heads up on that. I've used boats.net for OEM stuff in the past also. Good folks to deal with. Be checkin' out their sister. Mike
