Wow! Has it been that long? Glad you got her fired up again. Is this the first time since the fire that you've had it running? Mike

Why can I remember all these and can't remember where I laid my car keys?

No kits, pick and chose. Better that way actually. Always something you don't need it a kit seems like. Pick the supplier you like for prices, then check with skydoc_17. He offers a pretty decent discount to members. Ya never know, might save a few. Better than the stealers anyway. And I will say without a doubt in my mind......Earl knows more about what these bikes need better than the parts guys at the stealers!!! In fact......most these guys know more about these bikes than the stealers!! Mike

Dang! I was feeling pretty smart when I got it on the 2nd try then forgot what I did and didn't get it again until the 8th try. Geesh.

I did the upgrade to Earls (skydoc_17) kit last year. I was slipping pretty badly at high RPMS in 4th and 5th. Replacing the half disk and installing the stronger springs did the trick. I can kick it down to 3rd and go WOT and it takes off like a rocket now. Mike

Yep, if you are going to do the seals I'd pull them and strip them down and replace all four bushings, the wave washer sets, the wiper boots and then swap out those stock springs (if they haven't been done already) with a set of Progressives. The OEM springs are pure junk from day one. Easy way to find out if the springs have been swapped for Progressives already is pull the top caps on the forks and if you are seeing a short (1/2 inch or so) spacer and the top of the spring you already have them. The Progressives and much longer than the OEM's and the eliminate the long steel spacer (about 6 inches) that sits on top of them. If the bike is known to bottom out REAL easy hitting the front brake.....they are still OEM. Progressives don't bottom out. And you won't be needing to add air pressure to the front anymore either. Once you upgrade to the Progressives you won't be needing the anti-dives and you can simply disconnect the power lines to them. That's the quick and easy way. If you want a clean job of removing the anti-dives compelty check the classified ads under skydoc_17 listings. He makes a real nice set of block off plates to seal the mounting flanges on the fork legs. (see pics from my '84) He can help you order the other parts you need also. Send him a PM for more info on that. Be sure to check the inner fork tubes for scars or damage that may have caused the leakage also. Then if you have had oil running down the forks check those brake pads to make sure they are clean and dry.

Hey Dingy, They had a 15% off deal going at the time and the total was $118.90 for the screen and shipping. The shipping part was $22.00 bucks I think. I see they have another 15% off deal rolling until Feb. 28 right now. Mike

I just bought a new screen for my '84 from them about a month ago. I think it took two and a half weeks to get after I placed my order. But that is the way it works with them. They make the screen to order rather than stock a lot of finished ones. Fair enough. They were good on communicating on when it shipped after they had it made. I went with a two inch shorter one and stayed with the clear as I ride alot at night. It is a bit thicker than the OEM screen and I'm fine with that. Also has the black out on the bottom like the OEM one. Clartity is excellent. No flaws at all. So far I'm happy with the company and the product. Now to wait and see how it stands up to another bird hit. But these folks make aircraft windows so I'm not too worried about eating any more feathers. Mike

I have set of Venom X's on my bike now that were made in 08. I've got 18,000 miles on them and replacing them this spring due to wear. No sign of any kind of cracking on them at all. If I saw the issue you're having with a brand new tire I'd be looking to return it as soon as possible. As asked in the other post, I'd have to wonder where they had been stored and what they might have been exposed to. Not a pretty tire. Good luck Mike

And it's amazing how fast it happens. My closet looked like a mens store. 40, 42, 44, 46, 48, 50, 54, 56, 58........... Stack of SWEATS!!

There was a time in my life that the easiest places (and cheaper than an office visit) to weigh myself was either the loading dock pallet scale or the gorilla display at the zoo with the old "Compare your Weight to a Primate" scale. I was coming up fast on the Lowland Gorilla. 398 lbs. I keep a pair of my 58 inch waist pants just as a reminder of how easy it was to get to that point. I understood the meaning of the word obese. I'm proud to be back in the 38's again.

But......about the most expensive demo derby I have ever seen. Da kid done himself proud though. Good race.

It's a stretch but it's been done locally a few times and has led to information. Run a post on local public forums. Any local papers with a bulletin board or the rants & raves section of Craigslist. A couple of stolen bikes and ATV's have been recovered that way here. Post the gas station location, time of day and a description of the driver and vehicle. If you can get a copy of the security tape make a snapshot of the truck hitting your bike and post it to. Ya never know. Sometimes a long shot pays off. A small reward for info would help......leading to the arrest of the party. He's is guilty of hit & run or at best, leaving the scene of an accident. Mike

Ok....I bought a lift for my '84 yesterday, and other projects, and have been looking at the clearance issue with the pipes. In reading the older threads the general acceptable idea was to simpley lift it by the pipes. Yeah I know, tough stuff, double wall and all that but looking for a better idea. And hockey pucks are NOT in the game plan. In talking with Dano he's onto the same idea I'm looking at as I want it to be one piece and able to slip it under from the front and line up with both frame rails so a "U" shape is interesting. So you 2nd Gen guys have Carbon One and his adaptor........... So any 1st Gen guys out there with a design idea or an adaptor you made? Thanks Mike

Back in '79 my Dr. told me I was obese. I was 6'2" and 250 lbs., with a 32 inch waist. According to his information for my height I was supposed to be 188 lbs. Yikes! I took his advice and tried to loose some weight. When I got down to 215 I looked like I had been in a death camp. I found a new Dr. not long after that.

It's 65 here right now and just got back from a ride. I think my face is sunburned!! Hurts so good!!!

All of the above mentioned things are certainly factors in selling a bike today. One thing I keep running into with folks looking for a used bike is the concern over the miles. There are so many people out there that think a bike with over 25K miles is on its last leg. You try to tell them a bike like a Venture, RSV, BMW or a GW are just getting broken in and will run into the 200,000 mile range with proper care and they think you're nuts. Just don't know quality when they see it.

Cruise On-Off button---is it necessary??
Snaggletooth replied to krispy's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
The digital voltmeter you're looking at is a good one. I installed one in my '84 about 3 years ago. No problems with it at all. Mike -
The only thing I've ever seen close to that kind of damage was when a neighbor got tired of trying to scrape though some very heavy ice on his windshield and threw a bucket of hot water on it. Nice burst pattern across the whole shield. I miss that guy. He was fun to watch.

I've been riding again since last Friday when the weather took a turn for pleasent. One thing is for sure, the cagers are not looking for us yet. (Like the majority ever do?) Need to be an full alert all the time and be prepared for unexpected moves by the cagers more than ever. It's a shame anyone has to die doing what they enjoy. No matter which person was at fault....there is no doubt it could have been avoided.

Been seeing a few on them on eBay lately.

It's about the same around here. There is one stealer that will do tires NOT puchased from them for $30.00 each....off the bike. But the last time they did a set for me they mounted one backwards and forgot to balance them. So much for them. I go to a local independent parts shop for a lot of my stuff and a year ago they were charging $45.00 for mounting and $17.50 for balance off the bike for tires not purchased from them. I stopped in the other day to check on their prices for a new set of Avons. About $140.00 higher than Internet on the set. Ouch! I checked on their mount and balance prices and they had dropped them to $30.00 for mount and $7.50 for balance. I commented on that and the parts guy just laughed and said "We are finally getting to use our equipment". They were advertising a tire sale at 70% off on "select" tires. Took a look around and saw that all the "select" tires had date codes over 4 years and a couple were almost 10 years old. I'd have to guess their tire sales have not been so good. LOL! The new sales guy was gung ho on selling me a set of "high performance" Shinkos. Best tire on the market according to him and ALL the sport bike riders love them. Well I guess if you can put a set of tires on a bike for under $150.00 bucks you can afford to do burnouts with them. Independent shops are more willing to charge an affordable rate these days. Times are tight for them to and well, money is money. Do what people need done for a fair price and they will come back. Took some of these shops a lot of years to figure that out.
