There was something very similar to this floating around the Internet a few years back. Scared the daylights out of a lot of people.

Hi again, Here is the link to the thread on the connection for diaphragm replacements. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=32943&highlight=replacement+diaphragms One of our members set this up and we keep buying out their stock. LOL! Saves a few bucks. So you have just invested in the best Venture site available. Worth way more than the price. If it wasn't for these folks my '84 would have never made it to where it is today. I'm partial to Blondes myself. As you are a next door neighbor......keep your eyes open for me. I'm always over there wandering around. Mike

Hi Shaun, What part of Iowa you live in? I'm out of Omaha and been through this issue myself on my '84. Might be able to offer some help. I'd start with a Sea Foam treatment and go from there. It's a good way to start cleaning the carbs and fuel system from the inside. Mike

A Minneapolis couple decided to go to Florida to thaw out during a particularly icy winter. They planned to stay at the same hotel where they spent their honeymoon 20 years earlier. Because of hectic schedules, it was difficult to coordinate their travel schedules. So, the husband left Minnesota and flew to Florida on Thursday, with his wife flying down the following day. The husband checked into the hotel. There was a computer in his room, so he decided to send an email to his wife. However, he accidentally left out one letter in her email address, and without realizing his error, sent the e-mail. Meanwhile, somewhere in Houston , a widow had just returned home from her husband's funeral. He was a minister who was called home to glory following a heart attack. The widow decided to check her e-mail expecting messages from relatives and friends. After reading the first message, she screamed and fainted. The widow's son rushed into the room, found his mother on the floor, and saw the computer screen which read: To: My Loving Wife Subject: I've Arrived Date: July 19, 2010 I know you're surprised to hear from me. They have computers here now and you are allowed to send emails to your loved ones. I've just arrived and have been checked in. I've seen that everything has been prepared for your arrival tomorrow. Looking forward to seeing you then! Hope your journey is as uneventful as mine was. P. S. Sure is freaking hot down here!!!!

He had me going there for a second to as there are no brake lights in the trunk of an '83 until I looked at which forum he posted in. It's on his "other" bike me thinks. Ecks thoughts may be the answer.

I'd have to say I'd support it IF they hold them accountable for following the same traffic regualtions we have to follow in our motor vehicles. Now that would be the money maker!!! There isn't a day that I don't see a cyclist run red lights, cut lanes in stopped or slow traffic, fail to yield, and lets not forget they have no idea what a stop sign means. I ride a trail bike myself but it's usually on a bike carrier until I get to a trail site, away from motor traffic. Some of the stuff I see cyclists pull on city streets makes a lot of the crotch rocket crowd look pretty sane. Some of them around here have figured out that those fancy spandex pants don't do much to protect them from road rash. Good lesson for them. They do have one up on us though. When they high side a bike.....they can limp home with it on their back.

Good news to hear. Glad they are rolling in the right direction for you. Mike -
What was that old joke? What do you call a thousand lawyers chained together on the bottom of the ocean? A good start.

My Luggage Rack Install
Snaggletooth replied to GaryZ's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Well done. I ran strips of aluminum between the mounts on mine to give it a stronger base but it looks like the mounts on yours a way farther apart and the rear is well into the curve. I ended up covering the interior of the truck just to get rid of the butt ugly braces. -
And one of the local independent shops is calling Shinkos "one of the top performance tires available on the market today". Yikes!!

I'm not sure if she is a good dog or a bad dog
Snaggletooth replied to Flyinfool's topic in Watering Hole
How much would she sell the dog for? I have a few neighbors that REALLY need to see an angry dog come through a window. To me the dog sounds like a keeper. Maybe some training classed for control would be the answer. The way things are in the world today.......you don't want the legal issues biting you in the butt. Glad the dog is ok for sure. Time for a nice treat. Like a nice New York strip and some gravy. (For the DOG!) Give the GF a hug to. Probably scared the daylights out of her. I have a friend with a Red Doby. That dog has had training as a guard dog and it cracks me up. It will let ANYONE into the house. It will just sit and watch you the whole time. But when it comes time to try to leave, the owner better be there to give the dog the signal that it's ok. You ain't leaving without permission.....or a Doby attached to your tail end. Mike -
I don't know the condtion of your bike but I know you have worked on it a lot. But it's hard to make a judgement like that on an unfamiliar bike. But I'll tell ya about a car I used to own. I had bought '65 Ford Galaxy convertable with a 6 cyl and a 3 speed on the floor. I think I paid about $75.00 bucks for it back in '75. Nice looking car, and ran well. The only problem I had was the shifter linkage always worked loose and would lock up. Had that down to a science. Other than that...no real issues. BUT......it being as $75.00 car and knowing the shifter was twitchy I was always afraid to wander too far from home. Missed out a lot of trips to meet with friends and didn't go on a couple of vacation runs I'd hoped to do because I was concerend about the car. That told......I ended up selling the car to a friend from school for what I paid for it with a warning about the linkage. I ran into him a few years later and he still had the car. He had been to California with it twice, Washington State a couple of times and a handful of trips to Texas and even Mexico. I saw him at our twenty year reunion. Yep. He still owned the car. Had it restored. I offered him his $75.00 back. I think he's still laughing. So all in all.....if you know the work you have done on the bike is solid, the parts you have on it have been checked and maintained under your hand..........GO FOR IT!! If not you might miss out on a heck of ride. It's only a 1000 miles! I do that on a weekend on my '84. Adventure ........ right? Mike

Coolant bypass valve

Makes ya kinda proud don't it? -
That looks pretty good Gary. Nice shine on it. You leaving it raw or giving it a coat of clear coat? I had a 2hp bench grinder I rarely use so I swapped out the stones with a set of 8" buffing wheels. One for each compound and then a unsewn wheel for the finally buff. Wouldn't even want to try to do this by hand. I'm going to taken a lead from Bongo and try one of those flapper wheels and see how that works out on the pits. Should save some time.

LOL! Morning Jim. Yep....cold and snowing again today. Actually I bought an extra set of forks to rebuild as I had a scar on one of the orginals inners when I first bought the bike in '07. Did a repair with JB Weld and rebuilt them then and it has held up until late last fall. So while killing time and waiting for parts I started playing with the buffing idea. And then.............I bought a set of MKII forks to do the upgrade to the better brakes. Got the rotors......got the R1 calipers and rebuild kits.......got new pads......and need to order parts to rebuild the forks and new SS lines to convert the brake system to old school. So while that is being done I'll have this polished set on the bike while I polish the MKII set. Could have been worse. I was thinking of pulling motor and doing the paint and polish on that!!! Maybe next year. Maybe. LOL! But I'm up early today to shovel the drive before I head to work. You can tell I'm all over that right! And they wonder why people leave this place. Later. Mike

The sad part of that is it took them a month to figure that out. And only then with some heat from Mama Yama. Glad you got your bike back. Mike

I've been playing around with polishing the lower fork tubes and this is after the first go over with the emory compound. Compared with what I started with it's looking pretty good. Still have a couple of steps to go so it should get better. The thing is I have lot of pitting where the stickers were and on the inside (back) of the tubes. I'd like to be abe to smooth that out where is can be seen. The back side I'm not so worried about and it gives me a place to experiment. This may be more than a lil wet and dry sanding can handle. Not looking for a show finish but would like to clean it up a bit. Any thoughts? Mike

Billet Air Cleaner Covers
Snaggletooth replied to Condor's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Looks pretty good Jack. I'm not real familiar with the 2nd gens but that's about a 1/3rd of new cost isn't it? Nutting wrong with that. Mike -
We had the weirdest snow storm here yesterday. Like a line drawn at the county line. Just south my place they closed the highway due to slick and snowy conditions. Talking 3 to 6 inches over night. At my place, three miles away..........nuttin. Driveway has not a flake on it. My kind of snow storm.
