  1. I hate to admit it ..... but BradT hit on what started this whole project. I had cracks and missing pieces on the tops of the fairing panels that drove me nuts. Repaired....but still had to look at them. I ended up making a set of eyebrows, or shades to cover the tops. Looked better. But sorry Brad......No cigar on this one. It evolved way past a coverup for cracks.
  2. There! Done! What ya think?
  3. Yep....that seems to be working.
  4. Here it is before I bolt it onto the bike tomorrow. As the VR is pretty short on straight lines and edges I shaped the gussets as much as I could to keep with the lines of the bike. Looks a bit better than I had thought it would. Should blend in ok. Last call for wild guesses.
  5. I have nothing to compare them to on my VR but have used Bricks, Contys and Dunlops on my old wings When I mounted the Avons on my VR after I bought it I knew I was on a good set of shoes. Great handling, fantastic wet road control and nothing wrong with the miles I'm getting out of them. A bit over 17,500 miles on them right now and the back is getting close to the wear bar and the front could go though the season I think. I had the front off a few weeks ago when I did my front forks and had the shop just check the balance for the heck of it. Still dead on with the balance. I'm at the same point of making up my mind between keep on with the Avons or trying the EIII's. Mike
  6. Paint is done. Drying as I type. Well, the base coat anyway. The clear coat I'm using takes about 5 days to cure so I'll wait until after the reveal to spray that. Added some things and changed the final design a bit but since you haven't figured out exactly what is is yet.......WHO CARES!!! Pics by Sunday.
  7. Not stock horns or brackets but they should be right about .............THERE!
  8. My '84 was acting up when I'd be on the highway in 4th or 5th and crank on the throttle. It would slip like crazy until I'd back off and ease back into it. I went with skydoc_17's upgrade kit with the additional full disk and better springs. Resolved all my slipping problems with very little time invested and for a fair price for everything I needed. Now I drop a gear, hit the WOT and we are leaving!!! But before that the recommendation to check your oil type and even bleed the clutch to make sure that is all in order may save you some time and money. Mike
  9. Yep, my mirror. Just a decal though.
  10. Man I am behind on my schedule to have this thing done. Got hit with a few 14 hour days at work this week and if I hear "You're the only one that can get this done" one more time I'm gonna go all Awfuller Knofler and jump a fork lift off the dock. But I did have time to take the lil critter for a test run and it will work for what I intended it to do. Made a couple of minor additions to it tonight and now waiting for the expoxy to set overnight. So tomorrow another coat of primer and one last check on the bike. But as to your question Shaun...... YES! and.... NO! Some have been within range of the truth but need to adjust for windage. I'm not even going to say who. You think waiting for parts is tough? Fill your extra time by trying to make your own. I haven't even tackled the mailman since I started spending more time on the work bench. As far as installing 2nd gen parts on my '84.......come on! Get real! We have been over this before. Take a good look in the mirror boys!!!
  11. http://www.ketv.com/images/structures/buttons/button_enlarge.gif http://www.ketv.com/2011/0418/27586748_240X180.jpg OMAHA, Neb. -- A 22-year-old faces charges in two states after a chase that reached speeds of 120 mph Monday. Iowa State Patrol troopers said they tried to stop Justin Mandina for going 72 mph in a 55 mph zone as he rode a motorcycle north on Interstate 29. Mandina turned around at Ninth Avenue and continued south on to Interstate 80. As officers followed him west on I-80, authorities said the chase reached speeds of 120 mph. The Iowa State Patrol had just called off the chase as they crossed into Nebraska when Mandina lost control of the bike and flipped it several times near the 13th Street exit ramp. Mandina was taken to Creighton University Medical Center, but he was alert and standing after the crash, according to authorities. Mandina told the state patrol he took off because he didn't have a motorcycle license or insurance. He now faces several charges in Iowa and Nebraska. Kid is lucky to be in one piece. Must of had enough sense to wear some protective gear at least. I run this stretch of road every day and see these kids blasting through traffic on a way too regular basis. Damn shame he didn't have enough sense to just stop and take the tickets and deal with it. I suppose it might be a while before he can find affordable bike insurance now. Oh wait! He won't be needing it!
  12. Might be the only pic of me with the bike.
  13. Earl is a standup guy to deal with for sure. The items he has produced have been the the solutions to so many common problems. His advice and help has always been offered freely and without exception. Hell, when I was doing my clutch upgrade I ran into a small issue (of my own creation) and he even offered to send his wife, Jean to my place to finish it up for me to make sure it was done right. Now that is customer support!!! Mike
  14. Ok, ya'll crack me up. Never thought this would roll on as long as it has. Thanks for your interest....or boredom. I'm a lil off the original schedule as it turned wet, windy and damp today so the next coat of paint is being put off until tomorrow. I'm getting there.
  15. Oh that was settled a long time ago. The 2nd gens just haven't caught on....or should I say caught up yet.
  16. Congrats on that to both of you. And that settles it.....next time one of these 1st gen/2nd gen discussions start up....you're with me.
  17. Beat me to it!
  18. I would have been wide awake and bushy tailed in your neighborhood. But in my neighborhood it was 4:13 am. Different time zone maybe? But looking back at this thread I have given incorrect info twice. Yikes! Both in my doze zone. So much for sleep typing. I guess I should stick to raiding the fridge.
  19. Exclusive fit for 1st gens only. BUT......it will involve 2nd gens. Final fit, sanding and primer coat today. Only a couple more days before the reveal. Getting some good ideas here for other projects. Jeff came close with the thingamabob.......but more like a thingamajig. Or maybe a dodad.
  20. Dang! All this technical talk is making me dizzy. But yep, you're right. I got to learn to quit posting between 2:00 am and 5:00 am. I always get in trouble.
  21. Well Howdy Joel, LOL! I see the invite wasn't needed. Ya been around for a while. This post has the contact info on the supplier for the diaphragms. I'm not sure but I think the price went up a bit but still.......way better than dealing with the Stealership. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/sh...ad.php?t=42124 This post has the walk though on the installation of them. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/sh...ad.php?t=19271 Hope that helps. Mike
  22. That is with the Shindengen, a Buckeye upgrade stator and a 2 year old DEKA AGM battery read with a digtal voltmeter installed in parallel to the battery.
  23. Hi Gary, I went with the 30 amp as the guy I was talking to at NAPA said that they had found the blow rate on the MAXI's was higher than stated at 30. BS or not I don't know. But I do carry a 40 amp with me just in case. Fuse holder is now under the false cover so it takes like 2 minutes to change it. So far....no problem. This R/R works great. 14.4 at speed and only drops to 14.3 with the drivers on. If I set the idle to below 1,000 rpm it drops to 13.2 with the drivers on!!! At 1,000 rpm or above it still shows 14.3-14.4. I used to see my voltmeter ramping up and down all the time with the OEM and another aftermarket R/R. No more of that. And of course I did seperate the R/R, stator, battery and voltmeter to it's own harness. None of the charging system is tied to the OEM loom at all. If something fails....not far to look for a problem.
  24. Hi Gary, Pretty simply. Clamped it in a vice protected by strips of wood and heated it with a heat gun at the bend area until it went soft. Then pressed it to the angle I needed with a block of wood. Had to get it up to about 325 degrees to make it that sharp. Then spray water on the smoldering wood strips.
  25. Several have gone with the "Bug". I've concidered adding one to my '84 along with my digital meter. http://www.argusanalyzers.com/battery-monitors/products/bb-sbm12ps-battery-bug-battery-monitor-argus-analyzers.html
