Now as a guy I find a need for a "Special" type of card on certian holidays. They just ain't out there. Hallmark don't have the kind of stuff to show how I feel. "I've always wanted to have someone to hold, someone to love. After having met you, I've changed my mind." "I must admit, you brought religion into my life. I never believed in Hell till I met you." "Looking back over the years that we've been together, I can't help but wonder: What the heck was I thinking?" "As the days go by, I think of how lucky I am that you're not here to ruin it for me." "If I get only one thing for Christmas, I hope it's your sister." "As I grow older, I think of all the gifts you've given me. Like the need for therapy..." "Thanks for being a part of my life! I never knew what evil was before this!" "Money is tight, times are hard, here's your freaking Christmas card!!!" "Someday I hope to get married, just not to you." "I just want you to know that I'm sorry for what happened, especially since you survived." "Happy Birthday! You look great for your age... Almost Lifelike!" "Congratulations on getting married! It's not every day you decide to ruin your life!" "I always wanted to be rich, powerful, and well respected. While I'm dreaming, I wish you weren't so damn ugly." "Congratulations on your wedding day! Too bad nobody likes your wife…" "I'm so miserable without you; it's almost as if you were here."

Why does she bogg and loose RPM
Snaggletooth replied to Pam's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Before you decide to "rubberize" your tank, take a read on this product. http://www.caswellplating.com/aids/epoxygas.htm I used this stuff two years ago on my '84 tank after discovering how bad the rust was. There is no need to get ALL the rust out as the expoxy bonds even tighter to the rough surface. Power washed the inside at the car wash, did the old nuts and bolt shake down a few times and power washer again. Dried it, flushed with Acetone and coated it. The inside feels like a Thermos bottle and I have had not fleck of rust develop since. I've used and recommended the other types of coatings in the past, but this stuff is way easier to work with, no need to acid treat the tank (huge plus) and I see no chance of it breaking down in the future. It costs a lil more, but it's a one time treatment for rust, possible thin spots and any developing pinholes. I've done two more tanks for friends since I did mine and it did the trick for both of them. Good stuff. Check it out. My Mike -
loud clunk when starting...
Snaggletooth replied to Hfab5's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
You ain't alone with this problem. Been through it twice. What is happening is the starter engage clutch that is bolted inside the stator is more than likely starting to crack or has already. The entire system that hooks up the bike to crank it over is little more that three roller bearing held against the boss on the 72 tooth ring gear by springs about the size of those in a ball point pen. Yep, it works, but when it starts to go ..... it only gets worse and very quickly. Once the clutch body cracks the alinement to make those rollers hook up is gone. Like you says it can make a loud clunk or a nasty chattering as the roller fail to hook up on the boss. I think a new OEM engage clutch assembly is about $186.00, or was last time I checked. Don't bother trying to replace pieces.....it ain't worth the money. It will fail again. The modifed engage clutch offered by Dano it the trick to being done with it forever. It costs a lil more than an OEM but it's the final fix. I installed one in my '84 a couple of years ago and it's been problem free since. Talk to Dano for sure. He can answer all your questions. A few pics showing the type of damage you would probably find when you open it up and a couple of Danos upgrade. So much for three roller bearings. I thinks it's like 19 elipical sprags with a steel spring behind them all. Bullet proof. The first two are a cracked OEM clutch body. The 3rd one is the OEM in the stator and the 4th is Danos upgrade. You can see the differnce between the two clearly. Mike -
Yep, match amp output to the speaker rating. And watch the ohm's also. A 400 watt speaker is not going to do much on a what? ........ 12 watt amp. Mike

Getting dizzy reading about mesh jackets.
Snaggletooth replied to Snaggletooth's topic in Watering Hole
I picked up a Scorpion Strike from New Enough when they listed them for $74.00. It is a great jacket for all round weather with the zip out thermal liner and seems to hold off water pretty well. But behind the fairing of a 1st gen you just don't get all that wet anyway, as long as you're moving. So with three seasons covered.......a mesh for summer should do the trick. Sounds like Joe Rocket is the popular brand so far. I'll take another look at their stuff. Mike -
Ok, summer is here. It hit 80 today. I bought a Scorpion textile jacket last fall and it does it's job well. I rode in temps down to 12 degrees with the liner in and it was warm enough at that temp. Take the liner out when it is between 40 and 70 degree range and that is great. But today........80! Not good! Been looking for a mesh jacket for a while for the upcoming hot days and there are a lot to choose from. Everytime I find something I think I would like it's not available in my size or sold out. I watch Motorcyclegear on a daily basis. I just want something that breathes and offers a fair amount of protection. Don't really need a rain liner as I carry a rain suit in the bag at all times. So I'm going to ask what are your comments on what you wear. That might help me narrow my search down a bit. Mike

Jeff, What are you looking for in the caster wheels? I strip down a lot of racks at work and I tend to accumulate the danged things. Are you looking for a permament mount or just going to bolt on for storage? Mike

how much fork oil

Yep, you would need a T gauge that was a lot longer if the forks were extended. And don't forget to burp them. Here are the Progressive directions. -
Why does she bogg and loose RPM
Snaggletooth replied to Pam's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Hi Frank, You are kind of where I was with my problem when it first started acting up. I had changed my fuel filter and had a lot of rust in it. After the new filter it did fine for a while then started acting like your's. I barely got home on that last ride when I started bogging down. I opened the fuel level sending unit cover and it was easy to see the screens for the pick up tubes were shot and loose in the stand pipes. Rust was going directly to the petcock and clogging the lines. I had to do a full tear down and replace all lines, which I should have done the first time, and then coated to tank with epoxy sealer. I even tore down the carbs to clean them out. Once that was done it was fine again and that was two years ago. If I were you I'd start at the source and open the tank to look and go from there. I surely hope you don't have a rust issue like I did and maybe it's just a line going bad. Keep us posted on what you find. Mike -

how much fork oil
Snaggletooth replied to Dragonslayer's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
With the Progressives it's 5 1/2 inches from the top of the tubes. I made T gauge out of white plastic I can drop in the top and when it hits the bottom the the T........it's full. Mike -
Why does she bogg and loose RPM
Snaggletooth replied to Pam's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Fuel filter would be my first suspect. It sounds like fuel starvation. Could be anywhere from the petcock pickups, line to the fuel filter, filter itself or the feed line to the carbs. Opps. Said new filter. Did you check to make sure it was clean? I found a lot of rubber particals in my carb filters when I first got my bike from the ole red lines breaking down. -
Can you post the breakdown you are looking at? Something is not right here. The pump on an '84 is mounted behind the support bracket for the rear foot peg on the left side of the bike. There is a kill switch (tip over protection) on the bike. Mike
