Its been getting pretty chewed up traveling on these lime rock roads out here. Usually have to do a minimum of 8 to 14 miles a day depending on weather conditions to get to a paved road. I just gauged the tires a couple weeks ago while changing drive lube and both were still at 50 psi then. Headed into Omaha this morning and was dancing pretty good on the last stretch of rock. Rolling into the lil truck stop out on the hwy and checked. Rear was down to 25 psi. Aired it up found a small leak just at the edge of the tread. Not cool. Stuck a sticky in her and she held. Still holding but i ain't playing games with it. I got 20k out of the last set of venoms. That was all hwy miles and not pulling a trailer. I've got less than 6k on this set but a lot of rock roads and all trailer miles. Front looks fine all around but the rear is done for safety sake. I'll find something over the weekend. Hate to spend good money on a quality tire and chew it all up on these cheese grater roads out here. Then again i have trouble buying a cheap tire to get by for a few miles and pulling a loaded trailer all the time. Yeah, picky i know. I'm weird about my tires. A ballsy set of knobbies would suit my needs out here just fine. From my Droid wherever I may happen to be at any given moment.

Thanks Kevin. IM 40 miles from the barn right now. Concerned about gettint back without problems. Need to stop and pick up my tag a long from storage and see if my bike lift will fit inside to get it back to the barn. Gonna be one of those weekends i guess. Found 1 E3 my size locally. $294.00. Trying to swallow that right now. Only other available option is a stinko. Don't think so. From my Droid wherever I may happen to be at any given moment.

I've loved my Venoms. Got to give it up for now. Got some serious damage on the rear today. Only tire handy is the Dunlop D404 Good match paired with the Venom on the front? Other suggestions? From my Droid wherever I may happen to be at any given moment.

clutch slave rebuild?
Snaggletooth replied to suds's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Congrats on the easy fix. That's the one thing with these old bikes. Inspect everything twice before doing anything. As you see the trouble you had can have several causes. Ride safe. From my Droid wherever I may happen to be at any given moment. -
As for mounting stuff on the handlebars ..... search "snagglestuds" and see what pops up. Or check with Carbon One and see if he still had any. He made some great sets a while back. The best option to our handlbar problem on the first gene. From my Droid wherever I may happen to be at any given moment.

clutch slave rebuild?
Snaggletooth replied to suds's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
All i got to say is two things. Before making any decision on the clutch slave remove it and inspect the bore thoroughly. When i had to do my '84 i wanted to go the cheap way out. A kit was in mind. Almost went south at that point. First thing i ran into was frozen and damaged Allen head mounting bolts. With much help, guidance and advice from Dingy i got past that and was able to remove the slave. While dealing with Dingy he sent me a used slave he had honed out. After inspecting my old unit i found so much corrosion and pitting from moisture there was no way it could be reconditioned. If Dingy hadn't sent me his used slave I'd have been scrambling for a new one. I got Lucky. The new kit held. Got over 3,000 miles on it now. Like said, don't always work. If I'd looked first i would have just ordered a new unit. For the money spent an a kit and time spent compared to new and being assured of a working slave I'd have gone that route for sure. Just something to consider before digging in. Rebuilds can be a gamble. From my Droid wherever I may happen to be at any given moment. -
I'm on my second set of Avon Venoms on my '84. I'm an all weather rider and love the performance on wet roads. Only lost traction once and that was during the rain on closed course during a class. I had 20k miles on them when i pulled them off. Had a little left on the front but the rear was ready to be gone. The second set isn't going to last that long. The last 10 months have seen a lot of limerock roads. With the softer compound not the best tire for that. The main reason for buying them in the beginning was the high sidewall rating. With a 800+ bike, 300 lb rider and pulling a trailer and long days on hot hiways I'll take all the sidewall i can get. Heard some complaints about cracking problems. No sign of that on my two sets. No trunk? No saddlebags? No fairing? Hmmm.

Maybe i missed it but i didn't see the grin i expected. I'd need a crowbar to pry the grin off my face. Looks like fun to me. From my Droid wherever I may happen to be at any given moment. -

Any body ever dealt with rental property owned by a housing authority? I have some questions I need to get answered before I move forward on this. Mike From my Droid wherever I may happen to be at any given moment.

Squeeze is right on that, its from that same set up but i wasn't looking for one at the time as i was happy with my new HO stator and the OEM r/r was working fine (at that time). When i started having failures i was lucky enough one of our other members had bought an extra one and sold that to me. That was a blessing in itself as the needed connector pins and the sealing plugs needed turned out to be difficult to find. I don't have the computer out of storage yet so i can't point you to posts i did with pics of the set up and the wiring diagrams i used. If you look back at my posts a couple years back you might find the info at the time. From my Droid wherever I may happen to be at any given moment.

Be curious to how it works out. You readings are odd. I used to get some higher charge reading with the OEM r/r units once in a while. Since both HO stator and new mosfet r/r went in i get down to 12.8 at idle with the brakes on and 14.4 over about 3,000 rpms all lit up. I did build a separate harness for only stator, r/r, Battery and digital volt meter so there was nothing else on that system. Using the OEM harness i did get some variables on readings from my own harness. I have no faith in the readings off the OEM in dash meter. Hope it works out for ya. That's a thought Neil. I installed one of Buckeyes HO stators about 5 years ago. I had 3 OEM R/R's fail after that over a couple years. All were in original mounting spot. One other was an aftermarket unit but that was my fault on the mounting position exposed to excessive heat from pipes. Since the new Mosfet type Shindengen went in inside the fairing its been perfect for a couple years now. Still dead steady at 14.4 at any load. Wind Turbulence
Snaggletooth replied to BlueSky's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
My opinion for what it's worth. I'm 6'2". I ran the first few years with a stock height screen. Offeredo good protection in weather but when i wore my HJC trooper style half helmet at highway speeds I'd get a lot of movement. Didn't bother me much at all with a full face. Oddly enough i changed the screen to a Cee Bailey that was 2 inches shorter than stock. I got less turbulent movement on the half helmet with that screen and none with the full face. The issue wasn't the fit of the helmets, it was where the air was hitting the edges of the lid. I could ride with the face plate of my modular fully open with the shorter screen and it didn't bother me. Due to damage to the screen recently (wind damage believe it or not) i just replaced it with a stock height Slip Streamer. Back to the half helmet movement again. So I'm happier with a shorter screen. Seems to get the head out of the air turbulence. But overall I've ridden my '84 almost 50,000 miles since i bought it. I can't remember a bike that offered better overall wind and weather protection and I've been out on the road it about everything. You find where you like to sit the saddle and view through or over the screen and i think you'll find the bike to be comfortable in the wind. BTW the wind damage to mine was while parked during an afternoon of gusts in the 70 MPH range. My lucky day. I wasn't on the road. From my Droid wherever I may happen to be at any given moment. -
Happy Birthday Lowell. I remember learning about you by reputation when i joined in '07. Impressed me that this place had such outstanding members. I got to get out more. Amen on good crash bars. Been tested three times this year. Once lost control pulling trailer over frozen ruts on rock road, one on wet rock drive during thunderstorm and then a few weeks ago the 70 MPH wind gusts blew it over and under the camper trailer. I lost the windscreen on the last one and the Baker lower wind wings on the others. No damage to any body panel or even a mirror. Can't complain about a good design. http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/04/10/utene6yp.jpg From my Droid wherever I may happen to be at any given moment.

92 loses spark
Snaggletooth replied to mxvet274's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
There ya go. Once you've find the TCI is the problem Dingys upgrade unit to the Ingitech is the answer. I just had my TCI fail suddenly. I could only get up to about 50 MPH. Had to Change it out in the driveway. With only a few tools I had it swapped out and road ready in about an hour. Dingys set up arrived pre programed and with everything needed for install and mounting. Couldn't ask for anything more plug & play. Prefect. Replacing a TCI can be a gamble. Used one might be good or not. Finding a NOS unit, good luck. I had one. Took threes years to run across it. Dingys is more than fairly priced fir what the unit offered. Like. He said, under $300.00 . And don't forget the support Gary offers along with it. Best buy, best value, best support From my Droid wherever I may happen to be at any given moment. -
I'm kind of a late comer to the Ingitech upgrade. Was happy with my reconditioned TCI I've had in for several years with a couple of spare units, one them a NOS unit. Last year i was in a position where it it looked like i was going to let the bike go so of course i sold off my spare parts. Last month i had a minor accident and went down. I took a beating but the bike survived well. Of course a few days later it started the tach drop off and could not Rev over 2,500 rpms. I knew what the problem was. Lil trouble shooting with Dingy and he had an Ingitech upgrade kit in the mail to me in short order. So i got the Kit installed today in pretty much a roadside repair style. Gary's included directions were spot on and made it slick to do and his included kit was everything needed. Perfect. Back to running and another upgrade on the bike. Not a bad project for a limerock driveway on a windy clammy day. Gary, thanks for pulling all this together and setting up these units. Outstanding service.
