i used the mirror adapters from JPs to hold down my covers , you have to use a wrench to put them on instead of a allen head , they are little studs with 10 mm on 1 side and 8 mm on the other . just screw in the 10 mm studs put your covers on tighten down the nut , i plan to use the 8 mm part sticking up to mount a ram mount on . I am a generac sales and serviceman , a 20k is a good size and at 1/2 load it uses about 1 gal a hour , you need to start it up every 14 days and run it for a 1/2 hour , it is for charging the battery but the main reason is to remove moister from the windings and elec. parts . when i install standby gens i use a marine deep cycle battery , the cheap lawn mower batterys are pretty small and go bad , to install a biger battery , just remove the battery hold down bracket and a bigger battery will fit . i hate to install a standby on the ground , the ground moister kills a generator even using the plastic or concret pad is not very good , i like using 2 rows of cinder blocks high filled with cemet and a plastic pad on top , plus make sure there is no bushes or trees close to the generator i have had the least porblems with generators that are sitting in the sun . the generac / gaurdian home standby generators are ok but what i really like is the 15k pordable genarac generator from Home depot with the Lp or nat gas kit on it . the cheapest place to get a generator is on line from Norwall.com , i checked with Genarac and norwall is a real co. but they buy gens. by the boxcars , 4 to 6 boxcars at a time !! they sell gens. cheaper than i can buy them from the factery call me if you need any help 386-717-1816 my new cell # will start 10/18/08 386-717-9245 Thom

i landed in Rockport Tx. , found a place to spend the winter , even found a job already ! rode down 75 to 79 to 77 , a very nice easy ride , but i only have one problem with the great state of TX. is how many SKUNKS are there in TX and does every body have to run over them !!!!!!!!!!! it is no fun trying to dodge dead skunks pulling a trailer !!! i think i,ll start smoking again and see if i can kill my nose , i learned something new , never - never fallow a big truck . it is bad enough thay throw rocks at you but when those duells hit a dead skunk and it flys up in the air , all i can say is O'LORD please don't let it hit me !! i don't start work until monday so i am spending the wk end in Port Lavaca , if anybody is in the area give me a call 386-717-1816 Thom

A little up date , i get to use my brother,s pc for a few mins. i took the back roads up to Menphis , the weather was great ! spent 2 days there than jumped up on the 412 and crossed the ozarks , i want to live there ! great riding , hit a little rain , but not bad . came into Ok. ran into high winds , a real pain , been here in Tulsa for the last 2 days and will be heading out tomarrow , a little change of plans , going to head south for the winter , down around Brownsville maybe ? check in later and see where i land . thom

after Terry showed me how to ride the twisties , i like them now ! i am taking the cam and hope i can get it to work rite . i now have a full set of leathers to keep warm but if i run into snow i am heading south . i don,t do snow ! Thom
-
well i am going to try it again , i'll be leaving here tues am headin for memphis to see my son and than across the Ozarks to Tulsa to see my brother , than if the weather holds out , try to get to Santa Fe NM. after that try to find someplace to snowbird it at , maybe brownsville tx. or Arz. Thom

the same thing happened to my cb , check your antt. cable under the cb , if tite clean it , than clean the splitter box connectors then check antt. cable , antt. it is not your sq. it is the antt. not receiving , on the radio check it with the cb and casett player off , if still giving you problems , pull all of the plugs off the amp and clean them with the good contact cleaner from Lowes C R C in the blue can , it is a lot better than the red can form the auto parts store . you the man ! that is what i was looking for ! plus i now know how to fix my old TCI that blew when #2 coil shorted . now for the next ? is has anyone tried a Vmax TCI on a 1st gen with out doing any other mods ? just thinking about what to add to the parts list when mining for gold at the mc salvage ! Thom

George ,i was hoping you would step in , to all your ? yep , i am just thinking about a newer set of coils , i think the reason the coils went bad , because they had cracks and water got into them , they are only 21 years old . the new stock coils cost a little over 50 bucks each and for that price i mite try a upgrade . i am going to move the coils to keep the leads short and the coils cooler and dryer . Thom
-
Randy , i was thinking of hanging the coils off the frame rite above the spark plug ? i was looking at the single post Hd coils in the new jc whitney book on page 107 , i think our TCI just turns off and on the neg. anybody know ? 5bikes the coils will go bad and start to crack from age and heat and the internal wires will short .
