LED's in the tail light of a 1st Gen
Thom replied to Saddle_Bag's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
you don't have to change all the to led just half of them , i have a led lite bar in back and really don't need anything else but to make the turn sigs work i only changed the rear bulbs to led . on the tail lite i don't need it anymore but for that darn flashing lite on the counsel so i put in just 1 led in the tail lite and left 1 1157 , it saves me 27 watts . the lite bars are just 35.00 and they have turn , brake and tail , Tom and Ponch have them too , Tom made a vidio of his . Jim , i am going to lose most of the safety switches for the cruise control and engine kill . i want to get rid of the cc sw. at the clutch and brake levers , i am going to install a relay off the brake lites to shut off the cc like a car has . next going to get rid off a the kill sw. and run new wire from the tci straight to the motor , the kick stand sw is going bye bye . one of the reasons is as soon as i find some fjr master cyl. and clutch m/c i am changing them and they don't have cc. i had a cc problem and found it was bad contacts in the sw. on both levers . i will be installing the new reg Dano got me and the new fuse block form Skydoc and than the only non led will be the head lite . these motors may last for ever but the wiring is something else ! i wish somebody would come up with a eazy wire kit like they have for hot rods . i have installed a lot of eazy wire wiring harness and i love them this is a big Hint to one of us . just think if we could buy a wire harness made up with out all the connectors , no kickstand sw. i know when my stand is down , no angle sw , and 4 cruise control cancel sw. give me a brake , and all the safety features just for the lites eeck . after 20 years i think i need some new wiring and before the 2nd genners say anything the wire in a 99 is ten years old ! Handling problem
Thom replied to VENTUREMAX's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
i have the same thing as you and i have tryed 4 dif. front tires , rite now i have a E-3 , seams like the E-2 had less of a problem , i just got a mark 1 chen witch i am going to try next , talking with other 1st genners it is a common problem , it is not bad 2 up or pulling a trailer but gets worse when the air psi is lower than 40 lbs , but the E-3 the max psi is 40 lbs but i use 42 lbs , i have rebuilt my forks , and install Condor's fork brace witch helped a lot , thanks Condor !! , i can cruise all day at 70 mph but at 75 i am tired in a hour . It is not a wobble it is a weave , it is very bad when i am drafting a SUV . i have changed my saddle bags , removed the trunk , see profile , i have cut the windshield 3.5 in. and it is straight at the top , thinking of removing it to see what happens , i would like to hear from any 1st genners that have a small windshield or a oversize one to see if they have the weave ? sence a lot of my frairing is not on , lower and side , and other riders with all their frairing have the same problem i think it mite be the windshield . thinking about a poll ? if you have it , what size w/s , what brand tire and psi. and stock fork springs or aftermarkets . A after thought , it is very bad when i use the highway pegs , but i know it is not the size 12 boots LOL and if the 1st rider posts that he do's not have the problem and has small feet i am goin to ride over too his house and take away his DQ !!!! I've got a miss....
Thom replied to timgray's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
i can tell you how i got mine out BUT IT IS NOT THE WAY TO REMOVE IT , ok now the way i got mine out , if you remove the side fairing than break your neck look up at the tci you will see 2 screws holding it in , 1 of them i got out , lets just say that i am missing a ear that the other screw was in but if your going to pull the tci Now is the time to change the spark plug leads . -

relocate on top of your air box , it will stay dryer and it will be easyer next time , a resoder won't hurt as long as you have it out . -

Yep ! sounds like tci Dans rite clean the tci plug , did you just wash the bike in the last few days or ride in the rain ? you mite have a wet tci , need to bake it , remove the tci , remove cover , heat it in oven at 150 degrees for a hour , that should dry it out . -

1st thing that comes to mind is spark plugs 2nd is the leads or caps if you have not put new caps on yet try swapping the spark plug caps , they unscrew from the leads . forgot the simple check , make sure that the spark plugs are tite in the cyl. -
