Jerry, thanks for saying that. I feel the same way.

when I talked to Zack, the owner of Lifesaver, he recommended the blue for the back because with the 4 piston caliper and the long brake pedal the we had way more than enough power to lock up the rear wheel. The blue one was recommended for the rear. Which is the most restrictive. I asked if I would still be able to locked up the rear and he thought I would be able to but that I would have to use considerably more force at the pedal that I use now. Zack further recommened that I use the orange for the front which is the 2nd least restrictive. He is also a rider and has his own Harley. i am just going to try the rear as I have been fairly happy with the front. For those who are not familiar with Lifesaver here is the site: http://www.lifesavertcb.com/home.html I am not recommending this product, just reporting what i am doing and have found out.

Lynn, glad it wasn't you. Sometimes we are just plain lucky.

Jimbob5, you might want to contact Rick Butler. He is a super nice guy and is very knowedgeable re:brakes.

Gonna put some of these on my bike this winter. Thanks for the information.

Scott, sorry to hear you're feeling this way. I do understand it though, and feel that way sometimes myself. "Best to ya."

I just finished a call with Zack at Lifesaver. Great people. He is the owner and explained to me how it works. He assured me that if you stay on the brake you will get maximum brake force. I did order one for the rear. He matched the best price I could find on line which was $61.99 from Competition Accessories. I hope to be back on the bike in December and will post a review. This may help the touchy rear bake I have. I don't ride two up except rarely and do not anticipate pulling a trailer.

KiteSquid, I hope you do...and don't drop your bike too many times.

I am so sorry. I will be thinking about them all day today. My heart especially goes out to Gary. He will need a lot of support. Gary, my deepest and heart felt sympathy. I know what you are going through. Orrin

I drove O T R semi for a whole bunch of years until 1996. Haven't been in one since then. My first radio was a Johnson something or other. Man the language was foul, but those radios sure got me down the road. Even met a few decent people. Don't use one now, heck, I think I gave it all away. Thanks for the memories. "This is C R, back at'cha."

Eck, thank you very much for the link. Looks like it claims to do pretty much what Rick Butler's adjustable proportioning valve does. You find out so much good information on this forum and it is conveyed without animosity, or people acting like jerks. What a great bunch we have here, I am proud to be a small part of it. Will be interesting to hear if any of our members have tried this device. Thanks

Don I had a nice talk with Rick this evening and that is what prompted me to start this thread. Should be interesting, even though it is what we have come to learn.

How many of find that it is way too easy to lock up the rear wheel on the newer Royal Stars with the four piston caliper, especially in an emergency stop? I know that now when I think about it is way easier than any other bike I have owned, not scientific but seams that way.

I worked up a sweat just watching him. I wonder how many times he dropped a bike practicing that?

I have to replace the windshield on my 05 Tour Deluxe. The insurance is paying for it so cost is not a factor. I am considering the Clearview shield because it has been talked about here so much. I wear an open face helmet and did not mind looking throuh the stock shield. I am intrigued by the extra width of the Clearview, but am concerned about having to look through the top curve of the Clearview. So far rain and mist have not been big visibility problems for me. A search has not revealed any comparisons between the stock and the Clearview. So far most of the threads I have read those who have gone to the Clearview was because of cost. Looking forward to your valued opinions. It is becoming clear to me that while healing up I have way to much time on my hands. Hope I am not driving others nuts.

What is the funniest thing that has ever happened to you or you saw having to do with a motorcycle? Last year I damn near killed myself with 2 motorcycles, neither one of which was running. I was putting my Virago up on it's center stand when I got off on the right side. My left foot got hung up on the seat and I fell between the Virago and my Nomad. My lightning fast reflexes being what they are I reached out for smoething to support my self and immediately found the left handle bar of the Nomad. The Virago was falling towards the Nomad and the Nomad was falling towards the Virago and I was falling down in the middle of the heap. There I was, caught in the middle again, with my right arm hanging onto the Nomad and the Nomad hanging onto the Virago and me on my back underneath both. Not good! I did manage to crawl out from under and get help standing both bikes back up. no one has let me forget this. I started so let's here some more.

Haven't Hit Many Animals Yet. I Try To Keep Scanning Way Ahead. I Have Found, With Cars, That It Is Not The Deer, Chicken, Etc. That You See And Try To Avoid That Gets You, It Is The Animal In The Brush By The Side Of The Road That Darts Through The Brush Just As You Come Along Side It That Will Get You. If I Have To Ride At Night I Try To Stay On Roads That Have Wide Shoulders And Are Well Traveled. That Gives Me An Increased Field Of View And The Head Lights Of Other Vehicles To Help Scan For Wild Life. Try To Keep Speed To

Wow!!! Some Very Knowledgeable And Well Thought Out Opinions And Experience Here. Thank You All. After Having Read Through And Thought Carefully About What Has Been Said I Can See What I Think Has To Be Examined To Accomplish Linked Brakes. All Of The Components Have To Be Balanced In Relation To One And Another In Order To Work Safely And Successfully As A Whole. This Requires A Lot Of Engineering And Testing. 1 Have A M/c For The Front That Properly Operates 1 Front Caliper. 2 Have A Rear M/c That Operates The Proper Size Rear Caliper Through A Proportioning Valve And Operates The Remaining Front Caliper. This Has To Be Properly Balanced To Operate In A Variety On Conditions. These Are Big Issues To Handle. Why Did Yamaha Discontinue The Linked Brakes On The 1st Generations? It Would Be Interesting To Find Out What Successes And Proplems They Encountered. Please, Those Of You Who Own 1st Generations Please Jump In Here And Let Us Know. I Am Concerned About This Because I Know What My Own Limitations Are And How I React In An Emergency Stop. I Am Examining This Because I Want To Make My Bike Safer.

Jerry, There Are A Couple Of Us Up Here That Woul Like That. I Have To Do Some Healing First Before I Can Get On A Bike Again, So I Would Probably Ride In The Cage.

DON, THANKS FOR THE LINK. JUST GOT DONE READING IT AND I AM EXCITED. SO I HAVE SOME QUESTIONS. WOULD IT BE POSSIBLE TO INSTALL A TEE AHEAD OF RICK'S PROPORTIONING VALVE TO ACTIVATE ONE OF THE CALIPERS ON THE FRONT WHEEL? I LIKE THE IDEA OF THE FOOT PEDAL OPERATING BOTH FRONT AND REAR BRAKES BUT STILL HAVE INDEPENDANT CONTROL OF FRONT BRAKE. WILL THE REAR MASTER CYLINDER HAVE SUFFICIENT VOLUME AND PRESSURE CAPACITY FOR TWO CALIPERS? WHAT DOWN SIDES MIGHT THERE BE TO THIS IDEA? THE MAN WHO IS REPAIRING MY BIKE, RYAN FIELDING OWNER OF PARAGON CUSTOM CYCLES DOES THIS QUITE OFTEN WHEN HE BUILDS CUSTOM BIKES. THE FOOT MASTER CYLINDER OPERATES BOTH. MANY OF HIS CUSTOM CREATIONS HAVE NO FRONT BRAKE CONTROL. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=13098 O C
