I hate to put a damper on things, but the Venture is a low volume bike. Yamaha will drop it all together. It is not worth their effort or capital to up date the bike. It is just not profitable to spend money on it. I like the RSTD, Venture series too, but it just won't happen. I would trade up in a heart beat if they did ABS and fuel injection and not even ask how much. Wishful thinking.

Harold, I agree that practicing emergency stops in a protected area is good and I plan to do some more practice after I heal up. What I have found out is that the rear brake on the RSTD's is way more brake than you need to lock up the rear wheel. I have put new pads on and I could not detect a difference. There fore this is something I want to try. I will review it after I get it installed.

I was a three pack a day smoker and quit cold turkey. YOU CAN DO IT. :080402gudl_prv::080402gudl_prv: Send me a PM and I will call you or you can call me if you need encouragement. I will help anyway I can.

Best I have done was 752 miles in 15 hours. From Mountainview, AR to Merrimac, WI The guy in the lead was using a goofy GPS and did like to speed, but we had fun together. I had purchased this bike just 3 days prior. One helluva demo ride.

Now I am learning something.

http://images.channeladvisor.com/Sell/SSProfiles/42000071/Images/38/tourclassicsaddlebags.jpg Mini, These are the bags I am thinking about. I kind of like the studs. Delightfully tacky, don't you think?

Forrest, I don't care for the looks of the Stratoliner bags. JMHO

Kit, you said it real well. I agree.

I am in the process of ordering parts to repair my 2005 R S T D. I am looking at switching saddlebags. I want to replace the O E M hard bags with the leather covered Royal Star tour classic saddlebags part # STR-4NL73-02-00 These fit the 97-2001 Royal Stars and current Road Stars. I can make some modifications if necessary, but am not as handy as some of you. I thought they might make my bike look a little different. Anyone having experience with these bags please jump in. Thanks in advance.

Kit, thank you for saying it so well. I agree with whole heartedly.

The accident with Gary and Leslie, Tartan's thoughts, and my own accident have affected me deeply. My heart goes out to Gary, because of personal experience I know what kind of gut wrenching grief he will be feeling. All of this has raised doubts in mind as to risk of riding. I want to continue to ride and am planning on it, but there will be a lot of doubt when it comes time to get back on the bike. I hope I am up to it.

Dennis, congrats on the new ride. I hope you enjoy many safe and happy miles with it.

Dennis, it seams that Yamaha is going backwards on the technology they are offering on their bike brake systems. Harley Davidson on the other hand is moving forward. Rick Butler has done a huge amount of work and research on this subject is the most knowledgeable person I have met reguarding brakes on the R S V and the R S T D. Most of us seam satisfied with the operation of the front brakes, but I for one and some others as I have found out have difficulty in modulating the rear brake in emergency situations. I have learned a great deal about the brakes on our bikes from this thread and the conversation I had with Rick Butler. Rick has developed an adjustable proportioning valve that is effective. I had been looking around for linked brakes when I learned about Rick's mod and shortly thereafter learned about the Lifesaver valve. I have made a decision to try out the later. I have no idea as to which is better. When I have it installed and get a chance ride the bike I will report back as to what my experience has been. In that way I hope to make a small contribution to our body of knowledge reguarding these brakes. I am not recommending the Lifesaver, I am only reporting what I have been doing. As far as I can tell, Harley Davidson will be pushing Yamaha and others to upgrade their braking systems. If Yamaha were to introduce A B S to the Royal Star line I would trade up immediately. My Harley dealer says he is getting a lot of new business because of the A B S option on their touring bikes. I have even been thinking about it myself, but I really like my bike!

I like to go to m/c dealers just to look at bikes, both new and used. sometimes they will let me ride one if they are not busy. What three bikes would you like to "demo" just for fun, not to buy but because you are curious. Mine is the Rocket III, Harley Road Glide, and the Valkyrie.
