did'nt see a wing mentioned. don't really see that the brand of bike has any importance.

i came very close to buying a new nomad. the bags were the only turnoff for me, a big ugly cutout to clear the rear shock. same as the voyager. did'nt want all the frills since i already have a wing. i ended up buying a 2008 nomad. after a little personalization it is by far the best bike i ever owned bar none. it ain't fast, but it does everything else perfect. i loved the looks of the nomad from the day they came out in the 90's. i would be a little leery of the first year model on the new kaw cuz it is a totally new bike from front to rear. heat seems to be a problem, but the venture gets hot too. i think any time you have leg shields and a radiator it's going to get hot in the summer. there is a 12 second wait to start it after ignition is turned on, the 6th gear is way to high, i may end up with a new nomad down the road if i get the hankerin. never know about me.

i will be caging it too.

just throwing this out there, it's not official yet. how many would be interested in meeting at probass in springfield, mo on sat. jan. 30, 2010? then we will proceed to lamberts to eat. we will meet at probass at 11 am. if we have a major snow and road conditions are bad we will change the date. bill

i'm back! was'nt to bad. fingers got numb, face shield kept fogging, but the ole gerbers jacket was toasty. got to test my new power plug too. only got 3 more to ride this weekend. the nomad is on the lift, heats on in the garage, ready for the major tear down. guess i better go to work. st. louis plating is waiting for some parts. got some new avons sitting here looking for a home too. off to work.

five years ago we walked into the pet shop at the mall and there was a longhaired dachshand in the cage you could hold in your hand. he was the runt of the litter and deathly sick. the others were crawling all over him. i bought him for $500.00 and brought him home and started doctoring him. the first two weeks we ran up $1000,00 in vet bills which the pet shop covered on the garrantee. served them right! well he came through it and turned out to be the best puppy we ever owned. i guard him with my life. many of you have seen him. his name is scooter. i dread the day when he won't be with us anymore. he's the kid we never had. just had to share that story with you all. bill

kudo's to you my freind. anyone who mistreats animals is a chicken s**t a- hole. we donate loads of money to the humane society. i wish i was rich and could do more for the abused pets and animals. they depend totally on us and many people let them down. i just don't know why the laws aren't more stringent to protect animals from these human vermin.

good point. you definately have to get the mufflers hot. they will be full of water if you don't. all mine have converters accept for my nomad, so the mufflers get plenty hot. i usually run them at a fast idle, about 1200 to 1500 rpm. regular idle speed is not fast enough. i have vista throttle locks so i can set the idle where i want it.
-
well, just started my 1300 v-star and ran it on fast idle for 25 minutes, only 3 more to go, since i don't believe in winterizing, i try to run them all at least once a week. we had a light snow, and there is still ice patches on the road. may be able to ride the other 3 later in the day. just a tip, if you do start them up, run them till the crankcase feels good and warm. this will get rid of all the condensation in the engine and mufflers, and coat the innards with oil. winterizing is the worst thing you can do for the internals of the engine and transmission. i have had bike motors apart that sat a few weeks in extreme temperature changes and the cylinders and gears had a light haze of rust due to condensation. if you don't run the motor at least keep it in a heated area. i keep my zx-14 in my shop all winter, and still run it every few weeks. i also keep battery tenders on all of them. if the battery is allowed to go dead and sit it will sulfate and ruin it. best thing you can do is dress warm and ride them at least 25 miles every week all winter if the streets are clear. make sure the crankcase gets good and warm, or you will do more harm than good.

the way i look at it, i buy what i like. i like some of the yammers and i have two. i love the wing and i have one. i think kawasaki is probably one of the best engineered and finished bikes out there. i have two. i am definately not brand dedicated. i'm not saying you have to have five bikes, but if yamaha don't have what you want look else where til you find what you want. the venture is a beautiful bike, probably the best looking of the bunch. it just did'nt fit my needs. to top heavy with my bad legs and not enough power on the low end, (to much shifting), and i just did'nt like the way it handled in the twisties. i will never own a harley cuz they just don't suit me. they are beautiful and well finished but just not worth the money for what you get. i like the new indian, $35,000 get real. i like the victory alot, you got to like it cuz you will probably eat it. nothing wrong with going with what ever you like. thats the neat thing about being able to choose. if yammer don't make it stick with what you have or shop around. lots of really neat bikes out there. i'm sure don won't run you off the site. he puts up with my snarley arse.

heres some facts on the new v-max engine. first the frame and engine are designed to work together, it is an aluminum frame, using the engine as a stressed member. this gives the overall bike a solid flex free platform, like the gold wing. it elminates wallowing like the second gen. has, and reduces weight. steel frames are being fazed out. they will use a modified versioin of the new max frame. in the new venture. yamaha has spent millions on this new engine and frame combo in the new max, and like they did with the max and first gen they have big plans for it in a future tourer. the 2nd gen will be history. if you want the old motorcycle look, the strat and v-star will still be there. they will never put the new max engine in the 2nd gen frame. just won't happen from an engineering stand point. it's way to much motor for that frame, and overall design of the bike.

your another straight thinker. the bmw will be a contender, but their lack of a massive dealer network and expensive service has always been their down fall. this will always leave them in the also ran position. nice bikes ,just not convenient to own. just watch for the new wing and venture. the big thing that will change my predictions is this failing economy. and it hasen't even reached bottom yet. the japanese aren't stupid they are taking heed to our failing dollar and are bailing out on us. we ain't seen nothing yet. the snow ball has just started to roll. as usual i'm glad i'm as old as i am, and have no family to worry about, but me, my wife, and my puppy. yep i have got it made.

darn there is some one else in this tread with an engineering head on their shoulders. kudos to you for the intellegent forsight. they already have the frame and engine,( very, very hightech at that), right under your noses for the new to come venture. i can't believe you folks can't see it. from an engineering and marketing stand point you can bet on it being built on the new v-max platform. the strat is nice but the motor is archaic. it shakes, it's air cooled, it's got old fashioned push rods. it's not even in the same league with the new voyager motor. the voyager engine has dual counter balancers, watercooled, 4 valves per cyl. overhead cams with hydraulic adjusters, throttle by wire, 6 speeds, etc. yamaha wants to sell bikes. they aren't going to aim sales at our generation. they want a chunk of the next gen. touring market, and they won't get it introducing an antique. the old second gen is already way ahead of the strat in engineering. companies don't make money going backwards. the strat is a nice cruiser. it will never be a flagship tourer and get big sales. the new voyager is'nt going to set any records. my prediction is the new to come venture and goldwing will set the standard for touring bikes for years to come. think about it. the writing is on the wall right in front of you.
