already made the move up 2 years ago. for the long haul the wing wins hands down. for the v-twin look, and feel i break out my solo bagger nomad, or v-star 1300. if i go down to one bike next year like i am wanting to do, it will probably be a voyager or new nomad. best of all worlds in one bike.

we'll keep the light on for you. wildhair (lowell) is looking for some one to share a room. bill

This will surely ruffle some feathers -

hey guys aren't we all cagers. i think i have a 4 wheel vehical i drive daily. it's not the vehical that has the mind, it's the nut behind the wheel or bars. my only complaint with the nuts doing the steering is, tailgating, running red lights, and cell phones. whether it be a biker or a cager. i ain't nothing special just cuz i'm on a bike. the big problem is bikers have no protection. a fender bender in a car, can be fatal on a bike. -
yep, it's 2010 i fixed the other post.

hey john, will be looking forward to seeing you. linda and i will be praying that you sister is doing well. bill

it takes alot to keep buddy in line. i think road kill is the only one that can do it. see you there. we need to ride down to that barbeque place one day. maybe on saturday. bill

i got my vacation days set so the meet is on. like i said it will be a no frills meet. just riding and socializing. the hub is a great place to get away for awhile, surrounded by some of the best riding and scenary in the country. the dates are the 29th, 30th, and 31st of july. these are the only dates i could get to work for me due to vacation, availability of the hub, and a full schedule this summer. we will have a good time garranteed. any questions pm me. bill :clap2:

i am going to put on a meet at the hub in arkansas. i just talked to randall at the hub and he said these dates were open with no other big events scheduled. july 29th, 30th, and 31st. randall has the meet dates on record. now if i can get vacation for that week which i should know by tomorrow, these dates will be written in stone, and folks that want to attend can start making reservations. i will have that information posted. hope this works out cuz i'm really looking forward to it. we had such a good time at the international at the hub last year, that this will probably be my annual arkansas event instead of my st. charles meet and eat, as long as i can still do it. bill :clap2:

the end of june sounds good but i have no vacation left till aug. 7 when i get 4 more weeks. i may be able to take off without pay. possibly the end of july would work. i think i can get an advance on my vacation since it's close to my due date. i will have to suck up with the boss.

guess i better start working on a date. wanted to avoid the heat but that may not be possible.

well as hard as i tried i just can't sit on the side lines and not have a meet this year. i would like to have a meet at the hub again. no date planned as yet, and it is just going to be a get together of old friends. we did it last year in preparation for the international and had a great time. it will be nothing fancy. no prizes, no frills , just a good old sit around and chew the fat and random ride get together. let me know if your interested. i will have to contact randall at the hub to see what dates are available. i'm figuring a thursday, friday, and saturday. i don't care if we have 10 people turn out, or 100, it will be a blast. i will officially post a date as soon as i get with the hub. i'm open for suggestions on dates. bill :clap2: ps. i talked to lowell yesterday and he said let him know when. like to see you texans up there again.

i think some one finally got the picture. you are right on. it's all about marketing. the new max motor is in the v-max as a test bed. the high price of the max is there to keep it in the hands of serious riders for some serious feed back and reliability research. the max sales will never begin to pay back the design engineering and research investment in the new max motor. it is going to be enlarged and detuned for the flagship yamaha tourer of the future. the economy put a big glitch in yamahas tourer plans, as it has with alot of other big industry. it could even take the new venture tourer off the drawing boards for good. it's all about making money and big business. almost all big industry is scrambling now to keep their head above water. they have to be very careful to pick and choose where to best put their dollars, or they end up like gm and chrysler. so don't hold your breathe to long for the new tourer.

the economy has hurt all the bike manufacturers. the new max engine is the new venture engine. the new wing was supposed to be hitting the streets soon. no word on the new wing or the venture yet. i think they are waiting for the economy to take a turn. the strat is a nice bike but the motor is archaic like a harley. it's a cruiser and always will be. no watercooling, push rods, no counterbalancers to curb the vibes. there is no way it is as smooth as a wing or a venture motor. i have a nomad and a v-star 1300 with counterbalancers. they are quite smooth but they ain't no wing or venture. they are cruisers. hang in there. if this economy ever turns around. (very doubtful), you'll get the new venture. it may be more than you want in price and new styling. it's nice to dream and speculate but this is big business and the real world.

all the gas we have around our area has ethanol, and has for years. although i don't like it, i have never ever had a problem with it. sounds like you may have let it sit with gas in the carbs to long and have some clogged jets. this is very common on all carbed motorcycles. i have rebuilt oodles of bike carbs with clogged primary jets. even during the winter months i run my bikes every week to keep fresh gas in the carbs, or injectors.

i have the edsets and the size of them is'nt even noticable. the edsets have several female outlets for connections. rca, 3.5 mm, and the 5 pin for the bike connector. this is why it is big, i guess.the sound on mine is great. lots of base response which is what i was needing.

i drive the truck as little as possible. most of my miles are on my bikes year round. if it ain't raining and the streets aren't slick i take one of the bikes most of the time. this morning i went out for breakfast and used a tank of gas in my nomad. probably ride 200 miles for breakfast tomorrow morning. i do most of my engineering and planning on my bike.

here's the high tech side. i've had lots of bike and car motors apart with different mileage on them. during the machining process, finish grinding that is, on all the major internal parts, there are billions of fine microscopic grooves left in the surface of the metal. the peaks of these grooves are often times razor sharp. they must be worn off to match the apposing part. this match must be a smooth operation which basically laps the two parts to become the smooth final match they will have for the life of the motor. the run it like you stole it theory is not the way to get the perfect surface on both parts. not putting enough pressure on the two surfaces is also not good as they have to have to have some contact to wear the peaks off the grooves. we want to lightly wear the peaks off not gouge them off. minute metal particles in the oil from the break in proccess help to properly wear these surfaces off. changing the break in oil to soon will hinder or ruin the break in process as these particals act as lapping compound. here is the way i break in my new motors. never lug or idle a new motor to slow. the first 50 miles is the most critcal for getting the rings seated. i keep the revs up during the break in period and climb alot of hills the first 50 miles to load the piston rings for a good seat. i vary the rpms between 2200 and 3500 whille loading the engine off and on to build pressure behind the rings. the next thing to work on is piston skirts and bearings. always keep the revs up and don,t lug the engine, varing rpms so the moving parts will match at different rpms. after the first 100 miles i start running the revs higher at low loads to 4500 rpms or more for short spurts. after 600 mile you can ream it out a little once in awhile and change out the break in oil. to totally wear the engine in can take as much as 25,000 miles. the more often you change the oil the longer it takes. after you break an engine in like this, and take it apart it sure looks pretty inside. on race motors they often do this break in on a dino. race motors have a much finer and more precision maching process so the parts fit much better from the git go. also race motors aren't built for high mile engine life. they are machined for the least amount of friction and maximum horse power, so don't think you can break your motor in like a race motor. two totally different worlds. i think i will head out now to put some good break in mile on my nomad. well it is already broke in. one last comment. high viscosity oil is not good for a higher rpm motor. the bearing tolerances on these new motors runs around .0015" the oil has to squeese through this to make it to the piston and rings. thick oil will starve the piston and rings of their life blood. i try to stay with 10w-30 on my short stroke high rpm motors like my zx-14 and wing, and i run 5w 0r 10w-40 rotella in my v-twins. i never run the revs up till the motor is totally warmed up and the oil can circulate freely. hope this info helps. bill
