i don't think anyone will ever corner the touring crowd like the wing has. the wing sets the standard for touring bikes bar none. it combines a sport tourer with the ultmate in luxury. honda has an all new wing in the wings getting ready for it's debut. rumors are it will be a 2000cc 6 speed with cyls. that cut out at cruising speed. might be an optional automatic tranny. it is going to be so far advanced that they built a new plant in japan to build it in. i still maintain yamaha will have a new venture based on the new max engine detuned with an aluminum frame. they will be hard pressed to take away the wing market. reason being honda r&d will never let it happen. honda has developed so much high tech stuff in engine and frame technology it is unbelievable, they have a new bike that they put on the market just to test there new automatic, it has a phenominal price tag and did'nt go over big. they don't care. it was strictly to test the transmission. alot of folks complain about the wing leg position including me. when you think about it that seating position has been around since the invent of the motorcycle. most of the bikes i have owned had that footpeg location. i like the floorboards better but i do notice when my legs are forward there is more weight on my rear. and my butt gets sore faster. if it weren't for my bad legs the leg position would be fine. i have had an awful lot of bikes and i have never had one that will compare to my wing for comfort, power, superb handliing, quality and finish, and reliability. if it was the only bike i had it probably would'nt stay around long, cuz i still get the urge for the v-twin feel, rumble, and look. luckily, i have several choices and that makes motorcycling a perfect world for me.

i have no problem with harley riders. some of them are real hard core bikers with thousnds of miles under their belts, most are weekend warriors that want to be one of the gang and dress and look the part. just doing their thing like all of us. there are a few like that on metric bikes just not that noticable cuz theres more harleys out there. usually the weekend warriors stick their noses up cuz they think it's the harley thing to do. i have met some great harley riders and the few times i was in need of help it was the harley riders that stopped to help me. one even hauled my bike home on his trailer.i had harleys when i was young and just haven't seen enough improvement in engineering design to catch my interest. to each his own.

what is ironic to me. for all the complaints that i hear coming from people owning ventures, why do you keep riding one? then you turn around and say it's the best touring bike made and you will never part with it. i have two cruisers and a wing, a kawasaki nomad, and a v-star 1300. all three have pitfalls, but i never owned a bike that did'nt. if i ever get a bike that i dislike enough to bad mouth it it's going down the road. never gonna happen cuz i'm able to find good in all the bikes i've owned. other than the silly ass casette and no fuel injection the venture is still right up with the times. i don't think there is a better looking bike out there. for the price they are going for, there is no better buy. i would buy one. the draw back for me is the lack of fuel injection which i could do without, and the small engine and lack of power. i just got tired of constantly shifting. the only reason i got rid of mine was i wanted something that sat lower cuz of leg and knee issues. i still miss my royal star. and boy it had ultra chirp, my v-star has ultra grind. i ignore it as best i can, and enjoy the scenery. harleys ar beautifully finished. they just aren't tecnologically advanced enough for me. it's just an updated old archaic design with alot of make shift jury rigging to make an old design work better. for the money i would expect some hgh tech advanced engineering. like watercooled, overhead cams, four valves per cyl., shaft drive, unit construction, one drain plug for all the oil, etc. come to think of it that old shabby venture already has all that. is'nt that amazing. it is'nt so old fashioned after all. snarly bill

you missed the major engine upgrades over the years.they did away with the oil cups on the rocker arms and put an oil pump in it. you can now shut off one cylinder when it starts overheating at stoplights. you don't have to put a pan under it when you park it. the engine got rubber mounts so it bounces while the rest of the bike stands still. best of all they really upgraded the price. :rotf::rotf:

your right there. it's hard to believe wind could affect a bike that big. it will move a wing around.

if you haven't already, check out my regional rally at the hub next week july 29th, 30th, and 31st, at the hub motorcycle resort in arkansas. nothing fancy just a nice get together of venture riders and friends. lots of great riding, scenery, commeraderie, in the heart of the ar. mountains. hope to see you there. more info under regional rallies. bill

eck, i remember that well. you know that you can't ride with this group without it starting to get competitive in the twisties. a good part of the venture riders can't hit the twisties with out turning it on and getting carried away, including me. i could probably list hundreds of names. the first time i went to vogel, i got a lesson in how to hook it through the curves. and yes i have seen venture riders break more than one speed limit. not safe but a good part of us do it. now that i'm getting older i want to slow down and look at the scenery, but the competition still goes on, and it's hard not to get caught up in it. about the ups truck. i did the same with a gal in a taurus. i could'nt stay with her. a bike can't corner as fast and turn as sharp as a car.

i can tell you guys never rode with swifty, muffin man, or wing man. i got the corners of my highway boards on my wing ground off following swifty in arkansas last year at the international. them boys don't baby them

not only is la a great riding partner, he also is alot of fun to sit around and drink coffee and beer with. the gals better watch it. he's single again and on the loose. :rotf:

just got off the phone with la. he asked me to tell everyone he's doing fine, the connection was'nt real good so i had a hard time hearing him. he is staying at his daughters in springfield, mo.. he is having some heart problems. i think he said conjestive heart disease. short of breath etc. he is in the process of buying a house. he tore the drain plug out of his bike loading it on the trailer, so he has no wheels right now. he said he will probably get it fixed in time for the hub meet next week. sure hope so. he said he has't been posting lately cuz he does'nt want to tell everyone his problems. i know he does'nt like to cry on peoples shoulders but, if you folks could say a little prayer for him i'm sure he would'nt mind, and if he does thats to bad. he's going through some major changes, and i kinda worry about him. he probably does'nt know it but i consider him to be one of my best friends. bill

took hwy 7 north to the hub saturday from russleville, next thing to the dragon. watch for the little 7s sign and make a right turn into the hub after the sign if your going north on 7. it's the 7 spur. coming south on 7 it is easier to see the turn and the hub sign.

me and a good friend went to fort smith, ar. today, and got lost going and coming. we left at 7 am and just got home after midnite. some how we ended up at the hub and ate dinner. than we stopped in steelville, mo. and picked up my cushman scooter winter project. it was the trip from hell. the folks at the hub are looking forward to seeing our group again and i saw our rally tshirt on the restaurant wall from last year. back to the hub again in 2 weeks. can't wait. bill

anyone interested in getting together at meramec state park in mo.. i was thinking of staying a couple of days at the motel in the meramec state park. any one interested in joining us. the dates will be the 17th and 18th of sept. or what ever else people may think would be better. the weather should be perfect than and it is in the middle of the best riding in mo. the motel is in the woods, and is very nice. the rooms are $60.00 a night. if the motel is booked because of labor day i will make the dates the 24th and 25th of sept. or the 27th and 28th 0f august 2010. what ever works best. just a spur of the moment idea i had since i canceled the meet i was going to have there earlier in the year. finally getting some time off work to do some stuff and i'm taking of advantage of it. let me know.

decided i want to retire again so i'm doing a major down size to 2 or3 bikes. after i get rid of my zx14, i think the wing is going to hit the road. my ultimate goal is to end up with my v-star 1300, majesty scooter, and nomad. any one want a choice wing with all the goodies keep mine in mind. it's one decked out beauty and the price will be right. bill

i was told and read that sugar and water is a no no for humming birds cuz it lacks the nutrients that they need, and get from flowers, and can actually harm them. the store bought feed contains these needed nutrients. i put feeders out every year but this year only had one humming bird. i think it got hot here to early and they flew farther north.

i happened to stop at my kawasaki dealer yesterday to look at the new victories again. when i was leaving , there happened to be a new kaw jet ski by the front door. i asked my salesman what size motor it had, just out of curiosty. he said 260 horsepower supercharged 1500 cc with 1500 pounds of thrust. blew my mind. any one ever ride one of these things? it must be awesome. where does it end?
-
believe it or not a venture engine did cross my mind. could'nt afford rear tires.
-
was hoping someone would ask. was going to make a sleeper out of it but if you ever rode one they are dangerous enough stock. i'm going to run a harbor freight 13 hp motor with a comet cvt clutch. front disc brake and rear drum with aluminum 10" wheels and new style scooter tires. i picked this model cuz i wanted one as a teenager, and it has a leading link fork with lots of travel. i've already built a bunch of eagles with v- twins and hopped up flat heads. this time i just wanted something with eletric start, reliable, and nostaligic, so i can ride with my cushman buddies at the cushman meets.

no takers, make me an offer. i would like to see some one get some use out of it.
