  1. and i thought you and cindy were talking about dessert.
  2. no i think harleys are high quality and a very nice looking bike. just the same old basic design with some try to make it modern bandaids. the v-rod motor was an attempt to modernize that did'nt work. it's not big enough for a tourer and the harley crowd won't accept it. as far as the v-twin, the harley engine is an awsome design if you like classic engineering. i love the design of the harley engine, but it is archaic. like 3 piece crank, roller bearing lower end, push rods and 2 valve heads, air cooled, etc. it's just the same old bike. the saddle bags and trunk are tha same shape they were 30 years ago. just to much money for what you get. i'm just stating my opinion. if someone else likes a harley, more power to them. lots of folks don't like what i ride.
  3. check it out under rides and rallies. we would love to meet you. the hub is where my committee and i hosted the vr. international rally last year. make it there if you can. we would love to meet you. bill ps. it is about 9 miles south east of harrison ar.
  4. if you make it to branson you will be about 70 miles from the hub meet thursday, friday, and saturday. stop in and say hello if you get a chance.
  5. hey buddy glad you had a safe enjoyable trip. looking forward to seeing you and sharon friday, so is linda. bill :clap2:
  6. still several draw backs for me. try tube type tires, aircooled, non unit complex drive train, push rods, two valves per cyl., archaic engineering design, both mechanical and asthetic, price, and on and on and on. come on harley, your going to get caught with your pants down in the tecnology department. they may be on top right now but it's going to be the 60's all over for them soon, if they don't get their head out of the sand.
  7. since st. jude is kinda my favorite charity, and i haven't helped much this year to get money for lewis, just thought i would help out by reminding folks that you can email donations to dragon riders paypal account. lewis will have to post his email again, i forgot it. maybe we can top last year. it is one great cause and you can visit st.jude as quite a few of us have and see your money in action. really heart warming.
  8. heading out in the morning, thursday that is. can't decide which bike to take. it's the v-star, wing or none. my back picked this week to go out again, and i can't hardly walk. i should roll in about 2pm thursday. looking forward to it. hope la and dooder will be there. they should. la would'nt miss something that close to home, nor would dooder. if you want beer bring it it is a dry county. see you there. :clap2:
  9. i bought new autolite platinum plugs for my ranger today. the old plugs have 97,000 mi. on them. it is a 3 litre v-6. the plugs are easy to get to from above , but i hear all kinds of horror stories about breaking plugs off removing the old ones. is this a major issue to worry about? the heads are cast iron. i haven't changed plugs in a vehical in many years.
  10. got to check my owners manual on that one. would it be under safety tips or specifications.
  11. interesting artical lots of good info.
  12. you ain't steppin on no toes, us old farts got to stand are ground. i'm a bagger guy too. i've got to of them and i miss my rstd. it was probably one of the best looking bikes i ever owned. just had to stick up for us old wingers.
  13. here we go again.
  14. i think most everyone enjoys what they ride. this ain't no arguement about putting bikes down, it's just a good discussion to get some of the specs, info and riding impressions out there. i like to hear opinions from others, it often helps when your in the market for a new ride.
  15. here are some gl 1800 wing facts. i was following wingman on his gl1800 wing, and 86'r on his first gen. on some very wild twisties at vogel several years ago. i was pushing my 05 rstd to the limit, draggin boards frame wallowing and flexing and i could'nt stay with them. i swear wingman was touching his mufflers on the ground. i could see no daylight there. an rstd will not stay with a wing. a first gen will. from a dead stop, i can't think of any full touring bike that will come close to a wing. 1800cc's talk. it almost makes the sport tourer category. old men may ride them but don't sell them old men short on riding ability. you may just eat crow. those old wing riders take biking serious and spend alot of their time on the road. some of them old farts have over 500,000 miles on their wings. my wing is rock solid in the curves no frame flex or wallowing. almost comparable to my r-6 and zx 14. honda built the wing to handle. the limiting factor is the long wheel base. it aint for the beginner riders.
  16. good looking bike. now your cookin. getting back with us young guys again.
  17. well i'm wanting to retire again and i am getting back into the cushmans. i want to buy a new ford fiesta, and for the first time in my life pay cash for it. i will still have three bikes, my v-star, nomad, and majesty scooter. time to really smell the roses. looking forward to st. jude good buddy. hope to be there again this year. :clap2:
  18. it ain't white, but this bike has you written al over it.
  19. if you need something fun to do next weekend check out the hub rally on the calender 29th, 30th, and 31st. great riding and lots of commeraderie. and you will get to meet some very special people. ( fellow venture riders). :clap2:
  20. i am getting ready to sell my wing, and need some help. not sure what to ask. it is a 2008, premium sound, dark red metallic, about $3000.00 in accessories, 15,000 mi., looks showroom new, been ridden in the rain once, almost new tires, includes extra rear wheel. i was thinking along the lines of $16,000 does this sound like a fair price? bill
  21. lewis, i want to paypal you some money for st. jude. what is your paypal address? i have fallen behind on my donations this year. i sorry. bill
  22. surely your experienced enough at your age to handle the power and sportbike handling of a wing. :rotf:
  23. i have got two weeks vacation starting labor day week. i went to meramec state park in sullivan, mo. this morning and checked the motel status in the park. it will be vacant on friday sept.10, and saturday sept.11th, 2010. i will be hosting an event there if i get enuff interest. let me know if you are interested. the riding, and sight seeing is incredable in that area. float trips, trout fishing, wineries, histroric sites and towns, etc. the weather should be perfect and cool riding that time of year. if interested i will post the motel info. the park motel is deep in the woods and has tremendous privacy and view. if we get five couples it's a meet. this may be the one i do every year in september. believe me it is an awesome area. bill
  24. a fellow is supposed to pick up my zx14 tomorrow. the wing is next to go. it's an 08 with 14,000 miles and loaded with all the extra goodies including a hitch that has never been used. well over $21,000 invested ,ridden in rain once, looks like new. dark red metallic. premium audio. lots of chrome and neat things. pm me if interested. swifty, this ones for you. lol:2133: ps. please help me retire again.
  25. actually i think we are all getting to be real softies. when i started riding a triumph bonneville with a windshield and leather bags was the ultimate luxury tourer. i took several trips on my cb 750 with a wind jammer fairing and that was the ultimate tourer in the early 70's. then i bought a new 1975 wing and there was nothing out there to compare. i was just to young for a bike that smooth and quiet so i got rid of it and started messing with harleys. the wing is rated the no. 1 touring bike 10 years standing by several of the major bike mags, and probably the no.1 seller. it does it all pretty close to perfect. not bad for a bike thats been around for ten years with very few changes. it does'nt really need 2000cc's and a six speed. mine gets 44 mpg solo, two up, no matter how i ride it. and it has balls out power from idle to 5500 rpm. it has rock solid sport bike like handling, who needs a 5 year warranty it is almost unbreakable. agreed if most of the riding you do is around town then a wing is not the the bike to buy nor is the venture.
