yep thats how i was beginning to feel. kind of started thinking it was a throw away car. the new automatic kind of scared me off. no torque converter and dry clutches sealed with no dipstick. they say it was designed to last up to 150,000 miles. key scare words up to.

you gm guys will never learn. :rotf:

this is my second focus. my first one was okay, but it was the first year. this one is like a mini luxury car. so far i really like it. i made the right choice. haven't had a full sized car since my 72 ford galaxy. mostly escorts and trucks. that new taurus is a beauty.

thanks guys thats what i love about ya. still smells like a new car.

worked all morning on my vertical mill making the necessary parts to increase the wheel base on my cushman project to make room for the cvt automatic. the motor mounts are in for the new overhead valve electric start engine. i want it to look original on the outside and be meaner than a junk yard dog on the inside. i love beating harleys with my cushmans. lol. i think this ones going to be finished way ahead of time.

as part of my second retirement plan, i was wanting to buy a new ford fiesta and have it paid for. well i could'nt find a fiesta so i went for a focus. i found a 2010 focus with $3000,00 cash back and my z plan discount of $1500.00, i got a fully loaded new focus for $14,400.00. i feel guilty, but it sure feels good to have it payed for. retirement is getting closer. can't wait. glad i got the focus. i don't think the fiesta was what i really wanted.

well we made it home awhile ago, and the meet was a total success. we thought it was going to be a washout cuz of rain. got a nice ride in friday and a really great ride saturday. what a great group. everything went picture perfect. i sold my wing to a really great guy, and he rode it all weekend. it was his and his wifes first venture rider meet and i think they really enjoyed it. i know linda and i had a wonderful time. the highlight of the meet was the trip to herman, mo. yesterday. it just happened that there was a fair going on there so we spent several hours sightseeing. i want to thank all the folks that attended. we consider them family. already planning a christmas get together, and a fall meet for next year. the temperature was perfect this time of year. the aftermath of the hurricane came and passed early so we got plenty of riding in. bill

we should be at the park around 9am. say hi to the b2 family for us. hope you are there when we get there, need someone to guard my wing. i have to go back home and get another bike, so i have something to ride. bill

we are leaving about 7:30 am. we have to make two trips there and back this morning. i think the rain should be over friday morning. the temperatures are going to be around 80 all weekend and pure sun sunday for the ride home.

lowel called this morning. unfortionately i was out riding. he talked to linda quite awhile. he said he was feeling better and the medication seems to be working. i hope to visit him next week since i'm on vacation. may ride down to springfield for my breakfast ride one day. he said he likes his new house, and lives close to his 2 neices. he also said he was humbled by all the friends he had that donated money for him. well la, you are a most deserving person. bill

got a great scenic ride planned for saturday, and another ride for friday. lots of places to eat in sullivan so i figure we will decide where to go friday night when we all get together. this is kind of a dry run meet for a big one in that area next year. there is so many things to see and do in that area it would take a week to see half of it. the ride saturday will be to the little town of herman on the missouri river to visit the wineries and shops. it is a fantastic ride coming and going. we will have fun, and the weather should be perfect this time of the year. be sure to bring jackets it is starting to get cool in the evening and early morning. looking forward to seeing you all. bill and linda :clap2:

So what is the purpose of a crotch rocket on the street?
Snarley Bill replied to 1 Canuck's topic in Watering Hole
since i love and build fast street bikes, to me a sport bike is a engineering master piece, a work of art, a chance to have a real race bike at a bargain price. i to can't believe that any one can walk in and by one. to an experienced rider they are the ultimate in safety engineering, top notch handling, the best brakes available, etc. they are the ultmate riding experience if your a very good rider. i,m all for having crotch rockets available to the public, but they do need some way to be more selective on who they sell them to. some of these kids are excellent riders with unblievable skills. unfortionately. some have no common sense yet. i can always tell the experienced riders, they wear good protective clothing, and are very curteous. there are nuts out there on all kinds of bikes. hell i'm out there every day. -
never been beat by any harleys. not even close. stock ones just don't have it. i beat a fat boy, with my vanguard powered cushman eagle. the guy was in such awe, he followed me back to our cushman meet in montgomery city to look at the scooters. i ran with three harleys with my 250 cc chinese scooter. they had gals on the back and kept looking in their rearview mirrors and there i was right on thier butt. my wing will eat one and spit it out. i had a sportster stroker one time that ran good. but anything out there would beat it now. some of the v-rods are right up there with the old v-maxes, i find it hard to believe, but i read a comparison on the two. have to see it to believe it. i had a couple of stock sportsers. i would never race anyone with a stock sportster. i have seen some bad harleys. they can be built to the hilt.

1800 gold wings have 8000 mile oil change intervals. i change mine every 3000 and use the best mobil1 10w-30 available. more piece of mind. the amount of rearend oil these bikes take is so small i don't worry about the cost. the more often you change the oil the longer your engine will last. some of our ultra precision cnc machines have total loss lubrication. meaning, the oil gets used one time. they probably have close to 0 spindle bearing wear. stands to reason new oil is cleaner than even slightly used oil. speaking of automotive differentials. i have seen many with galded gear faces. most have pitted tapered roller bearings, and they keep on ticking. the biggest enemy to the differential is acid created by condensation. moral of the story, change that rear end oil often. ball and roller bearings just seem to hate any form of acidity in oil. when the bearing sits idle where the ball or roller contacts the race, major pitting will occur if there is any acid present at all.
-
i don't agree with anybody on oil changes. it's all about piece of mind. i have four bikes and use different intervals and types of oil on all of them. from an engineering stand point i look at the type of engine, type of riding, and the fact that a bike costs as much as a car, then decide on how overkill it is to change as often as i do. cost and taking the time to do it is the last thing i think about. it just makes me feel good to take excellent care of my bikes and motor vehicals. so there you are.

i can honestly say i have never done anything stupid. they were all honest mistakes.
