I am thinking a lot of it is what conditions you are used to, in my neck of the woods the wind is pretty much a way of life. If you are not used to riding in the wind, it is hard to keep the bike where you want it. Just be really alert when meeting trucks etc. when riding in a cross wind.

Pull backs for Handlebars ??
Jerry W replied to a topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
Yeah, what he said. -
Lowering the front end is free, I have lowered mine and plan to lower the rear this fall. I am thinking I will have to shorten the side stand when I do that. Lowering the front takes a little time, but is not hard to do. The back looks like getting the weight off the rear tire and remove a couple of bolts and swap out the parts. You may have to remove the rear tire to install the caliper reloation kit.

I will look and see what brand mine is, you need to make sure the locking pin will fit the hole in your brake disc. Most of the locks will not fit the hole in the Yamaha. Seems to me that the hole is a 6mm.

You guys are awesome. I am thinking that soon you will be able to answer the lifelong question of "why do we drink".

There ya' go. I am interested in personal experiences of riding on a CT. My personal feeling is that if you can't afford a good set of tires on a bike, park it until you can. That being said, I also want the best for my money. So far, I have heard of no negative experiences from anyone who had actually ridden with a CT on their bike and there are folks on here (flb) that I know for a fact ride with great vigor. My present Avon's only have about 5,000 miles on them, but I may very well go to a CT on the rear when it is time. My thanks to those who are willing to be test pilots for the rest of us. I appreciate your posts.

Yeah, I was hoping to make it but it doesn't look like it is going to happen. However, I appreciate the reminder. I wasn't thinking about GW's maintenance day when I mentioned a day for doing some carbtuning. I will move it to another day, thanks for the reminder.

I find it interesting that someone not connected to Yamaha knows why they choose a particular brand of tire to mount on their bikes and what they actually mean whey they list approved tires in their manual and the description includes size and brand. Just wondering if aftermarket seats, pipes, grips etc void the warranty and risk insurance being cancelled?

Lighting Up MyPalomino - Phase I

I am thinking those look great. Looks like a project for this winter. -
Yes, we do. I am not thinking the 50 mph winds this weekend make riding much fun and I am tied up next weekend. Maybe we could get together on the 21st or 22nd. That might be a good time to gather up and use the carbtune on anyones bike that is interested and then get in a ride.

You are correct, Dunlops are made in Buffalo, New York. "In 1920, ground was broken in Buffalo, New York, for what would become the first Dunlop tire manufacturing facility in the United States. Dunlop is still the only manufacturer to produce motorcycle tires in the U.S"

I don't have a car tire on my RSV, but would like to see the dark side forum where I could read about the pros and cons of using the car tire without the flaming from self appointed experts of all things telling anyone who doesn't agree with their arm chair documentation how stupid they are. I prefer to see posts from those who speak from experience of actually riding. Or, cons which can be posted in a respectful manner. Opinions are like some other things, we all have one.

Highway speed vibration
Jerry W replied to Jethroish's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
My experience is that these engines do better at higher rpm's. Rather than open it up at 60 in 5th gear, you might try downshifting to 4th and then open it up. I am thinking you will get much better results. -
Sure, I use Dairyland Insurance. Like I said, the agent said she could not see a problem with the CT so she called someone above her in management and their response was the same but they are going up higher and make sure. I will post the answer when I hear something.

I have read the pros & cons of mounting a CT on a motorcycle and since I have not ridden a bike with a CT on it, I don't really have any way of knowing what it is like. I did call my insurance company and ask about coverage and the agent said she did not see why it would have an impact on coverage but would check with headquarters and see and call me back. I do not have a final answer, she called me back and said she had not been able to get a definate answer, the question was being moved up to higher management. So far no one has had a problem with a car tire, but they will call me back again when a definate answer is given by upper management. When I get the final answer, I will post. Just wondering, has anyone talked to a rider that has personally had a bad experience with a CT on a bike?

Di-lectric didn't do it. Radio still possessed, help!
Jerry W replied to FutureVentures's topic in Watering Hole
When my radio was acting up, I cleaned, greased and reseated all the connections, not just the big ones. I don't know which one was the culprit, but it works great now. You might try cleaning and greasing the rest of the connections since the faring is already split. Just a thought- 13 replies

I didn't have to buy longer cables either, don't know about the air balance kit, this is the first I have heard of it. I will look into adding that.

If you are wanting more pull back on the bars, you can add a set of Baron's extensions and the will move the bars back approx. 1 1/2 inches and away from the valve stems. The air valve stems are the reason a lot of guys don't lower the full 1". However, I was needing the bars to pull back closer to me for comfort so I added the baron's extensions and this solved both problems. Hope this helps

Quick question on radio connections
Jerry W replied to WIKD's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I don't really know which connections are dedicated to the radio, but my radio was acting all weird sometime it would not turn on, then it would not turn off, or it would just go on and off by itself, etc. I just split the faring then cleaned and applied dielectric grease to all the connections on the right (brake) side and radio works great now. I knew to do this thanks to posts on this web site.- 10 replies

Maybe you made a mistake in when lowering your bike that caused the wobble, there seems to be several folks on this site who for one reason or another have lowered the front of their bikes and have had no problems. You seem to be the only one who has had a problem, not sure this gives you the knowledge of how the rest of us ride to determine whether or not we know how to ride. I lowered mine because it makes it easier to get on and off, I also plan to lower the back end this winter. You are correct in saying years does not equate proficiency, however that can also be applied to wrenching as well as riding.

leveling links installation
Jerry W replied to paperboy's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Forrest, I am thinking about lowering the back of my bike to make it easier to step over since I added the backrest. If I do this, I will have a set of factory links.- 6 replies

This is the first I have heard of anyone having trouble with wobble after lowering the front of the bike. I lowered mine and have not had any problem with a wobble and I just returned from a 2,000 mile trip to Arizona so I am thinking if it was going to wobble it would have done it by now.
