Not trying to stir the pot, just a questions about Mobile 1. I was considering changing over to Mobile 1 in by bike, however I read on a Mobile 1 container that it was "energy conserving". I have read many posts that said energy conserving oil was not good for the wet clutch in the Ventures. Am I missing something here?

One thing about these, they do not require mounting brackets. I did not realize that until I received mine. You will love these deflectors and they do away with the problem of having to replace the mounting brackets which seem to be a weak point.

Here is a picture of my kickstand after it was shortened -
96 RSTC Suspension ?
Jerry W replied to WAC1972's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
I don't think there is much you can do on the front, on the rear however I think there is an adjustment using a spanner wrench to adjust the shock. I used to have a '96, I will see if I can find the manual. Also, you might send pegscraper a note, he has a '96 and probably knows more about them than anyone on here. -
RSV lowering - questions for those that have done it
Jerry W replied to atlm's topic in Watering Hole
No, actually a friend and I shortened mine. The one I was refering to that might work was from a Royal Star from the years 1996 to 2000. I think that would work, if you can find one. We cut 1 1/2" out of mine, drilled & tapped each piece and threaded an althread into each piece then welded it back with a stainless rod and buffed it out and you can't see the weld. I was going to have it powdercoated black because usually chrome pops off when you weld it, but this was the best chrome I have ever seen. We tried to pop it with a torch and it would not pop off so we used stainless to weld it with. The reason we threaded it was so it would be like a solid piece and the weld would not be the weak place in the kick stand. Hope this helps -
RSV lowering - questions for those that have done it

No, I don't have a problem with dragging unless I go in a driveway with a steep dip in front. You can raise the rear up some by airing uip the back shock. When I first lowered, I drug a little and the shock sometimes bottomed out when riding double, after I aired the shock up I had no further issues. -
RSV lowering - questions for those that have done it

I have lowered my bike front and rear. I lowered the front using the directions on this site and the Barons kit to lower the rear. In my opinion, you must shorten the kickstand. My stand is 1 1/2" shorter than stock. I think the stand from one of the orgional Royal Stars would fit, if you can find one. Either way, the stand needs to be shortened. -
Like I said, Ponch is kind of a "Guru" at this stuff.

You might send a note to Ponch, I am thinking he is kind of a guru on the gauges and connections.

?? Lowering front and rear ??
Jerry W replied to cb1313's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
MIne is lowered front and rear. I lowered the front using the directions on this site and the rear using the Barons kit. I also have the Barons risers on the bars to bring the bars back. You will need a shorter kickstand. I have no regrets and no plans to raise my bike back up. -
Beer is 90% water, but somehow it just ain't the same as drinking plain water. Not saying anything, just saying. I think I may try a can of 44K in the bike while I drink a beer.

He lives far enough south that he can pretty much ride year around and he takes advantage of that. He will check his email etc. when he is home. It ain't right that some folks are on road trips this time of year.

Don is gone for the weekend, said he didn't know if there would be wifi where he was going to be. I am thinking there is not.

Got it off ebay, said it was new in box, the carbtune did look new and the adapters had not been opened. The orfices weren't in there and I didn't know about them. That was a couple of years ago. Them's the way it goes sometimes.
-
I am going to contact the carbtune folks and see if I can order some restrictors from them. I didn't know about them until you guys came up.

I will probably leave the bike home in January. Maybe I can make a maintenance day sometime when they are going to be doing some carb work. I am not knowing if there is anyone up here who is much on carburator adjustment. I am considering buying a colortune before I host another maintenance day which will probably be in the spring.

You didn't get one from me. The only ones I have sold were last Saturday. I don't know where yours came from, but don't blame me for something I had nothing to do with.

That the only thing that buggs you? I am thinking you lead a charmed life. Hang in there.

I had some spacers made up simply because they were hard to find. A friend I ride with is putting in a machine shop with his brother and I had them make some up. I haven't gotten around to putting them in the classified adds. I have $30 in the spacers, shipping can't be much.

I put a corded plug in my front tire last week. I just had the new set of Avon's mounted The 1st of August and picked up a nail in the front tire last week. Since the tire is a bias ply and the nail is close to the middle of the tread, I thought I would try a plug. Of course, the fact that the riding season is slowing down because of weather and I just don't need to be buying tires right now helped the decision. However, I also talked to the Avon rep and the mechanic at the Yamaha dealership (two people who stood to profit from my purchase of a tire) and they both said they would plug it and run it. The plug has been there for a week, I will keep an eye on the pressure and see what it does.

We can't control what other people do, we can only control what we do. If you read the home page, it states we are the "largest and friendliest Venture and Royal Star site on the Internet". That was one of the reasons I joined, I personally think it is a shame when members leave because of comments made by other members.

I am thinking that would be good. It may be in the spring, looks like things are getting kinda' booked for the next few weeks and after that, the weather here isn't good for leaving on a bike. Maybe I can make a meet in your neck of the woods next time. I was kinda' looking at a road trip next spring to East Texas, Houston, Rockport, Leakey, El Paso, Fort Stockton, Odessa and back home. Most of the trip is pretty flexible, but I can't skip Odessa, the is probably the prettiest part of the trip.

Not to mention the price of my garage. I probably would have gotten kinda' whiney if you had wanted to get out the torch to work on the gas tank bolt.
-
Thing is Goose, everyone does not have the mechanical ability to set floats etc. so when they have reached the end of their mechanical road, they do what they can. I got a tank of bad gas and the floats stuck and I ended up having to take the bike to a dealer to get the carbs to quit dumping gas on the ground. I am pretty sure my floats are set a little high now because when I changed plugs the other day they were dark and a little damp. My AIS is plugged, but it doesn't backfire when I roll off the throttle.
