  1. Never understood the "change the filter every other oil change." I always change the filter if I am changing the oil. Just did an oil change today. Old oil was Rotella Syn. at 5,000 miles with a Wix filter. Oil looked pretty clean.
  2. Only alarm I have used is the siren locks that fits on the front rotor. Won't allow the wheel to turn and the siren is motion activated.
  3. Trying to get a feel of how far we go between changes. I have used the Rotella about 10k now, changing every 5k. I am sure I could go a little longer, but by 5k, I begin to hear my shifitng. Fresh oil = less noise and smoother shifting.
  4. Left the house for work yesterday, had to turn around a mile later. Back on the road behind a semi on a 2 land hwy goin 60 mph. A white Grand Prix (mid 90s) going the other way came within inches of going under the semi and then a few feet from me. Two miles later, some woman decided she needed gas. Made a left in front of me. Hit the brakes and the Stebel at the same time. I stop at the next gas station and about get into an argument with the attendant (full serve station; not my bike!). Pull out of station and spin the rear tire on a wee bit of sand/gravel. Bike laying in (on the guards) on the middle of the road. Pop the bike up and head to work. Nine hours later, time to come home. Beautiful day all day long. Not a cloud in the sky. Until 1:45 am when I am riding home. At least I am still alive and the bike was unhurt.
  5. Thanks Pegscraper. I have been perfectly happy with my clutch. I felt it slip twice now when I really had it wound up. Sounds like I will probably do the stock plates with a heavy spring. Joe, you remember the $$ or part # of the wire? Think I will be doing this job soon. Probably same time I replace tires.
  6. After reading the Clutch Upgrade in the tech section, I have a few questions. Bike is 2007 RSV with 29,000 miles 1. If left stock, how many friction plates? I gather the upgrade is 6? 2. Is the "wire" something that has a part number and comes from the stealer? 3. Can a heaveier spring be put in with out the entire upgrade and would that even be worth it? 4. What is the cost of the keeping stock parts vs. the upgrade? Thanks guys.
  7. Got 13,800 on the original D404s. could have gone a bit more. Now I am at 16000 on the E3s
  8. Well, the front is worn more on the sides than down the middle, but I have no peg scrapes. I just need to get to June on these tires.
  9. Put on a set of E3s last year. They are at 16,000 miles now and the rear tire, anyhow, looks like I should get another 4,000 miles on it. I keep them aired at 38 - 40 psi. I do like to get on the throttle a little which I would think would wear the rear tire a little faster. But...the front tire is worn more than the rear. I did not go to the smaller size front. I've never had a front tire wear faster than rear. Any ideas why (aside from maybe bad tire compound)???
  10. If you can and don't mind doing the "work" yourself, it can be really cheap. I will be getting new tires in the very near future. Last tire change, I disassembled everything and took the wheels and new tires to a local shop. Total charge was $30 to mount and balance 2 new tires. Now that I have done this once, next time should go a little faster.
  11. I picked up a Slime brand digital ($12) and dial gauge ($4). Every time I have compared them, they read the same. Compared them to the 2 pencil gauges I had. One pencil agreed the other was off by 4 psi.
  12. Funny finding this post. Just looked at my E3s yesterday. I have 15,000 miles on them now. I did the ever so exact measument of running my finger through a groove and over the wear bar. Appears to me to have about 5000 miles to go. Odd thing though, the front tire seams to be wearing at about the same rate. I keep them aired up 38-40psi.
  13. Thanks Joe. So my summary is this: Push the "select" button to cycle through all selection until you get back to the frequency. Then, push the up/down button. There you have it. You are now in manual mode. To go back to your "presets," simply wait 3+ seconds and hit the up/down and it will go back to prestes. Thanks for the help Joe.
  14. After replacing the battery a few days ago, I had to redo my presets on the radio. I know about holding the up or down button to scan up or down to the next station and that is what I normally do. But the other day, I did something, don't know what, that let me manually scroll the dail up to the station I wanted without having to stop at every signal the radio received. Anyone have any idea what I did to put the radio in "manual" mode? I have tried several things but cannot get it to replicate.
  15. No corrosion. Terminal connectors were tight. Periodic 2amp charge through the winter. Bike started and ran fine as recently as last week. Yesterday, nothing. Bike charging system running normal. Battery was no longer taking a charge. DEAD!
  16. Got home at 2:15am and immediately put on a 2amp charge. At 9:15am, I removed the charger and tested the battery. A whopping 10v. The battery case is not bowed, but it is shot. Called 4 stores before I found one. What really sucks is the weather is finally GREAT this week and I may have to leave the bike parked tonight.
  17. Going to have to jump the bike to get home tonight. Batt. was dead earlier today, put a short charge on it and it fired up. Rode it to work, (32 miles on hwy) figuring it should be ok. Four hours later, it won't start. Jumped it from a car battery (car not running) and it fired right up. Have not tested yet, but I am pretty sure it is the battery and not the charging system. It is the original battery - 3 yrs and 1 month. What is the part number for the battery and what CCA do I need. I am at work and don't really have time to investigate all this. Thanks
  18. I'm going to have to bow out of planning this one guys. My daughter (and myself and wife by default) is getting busy with 4H and barrel racing. Unless plans change, we have horse plans (some definite and some tentative) for every Saturday and a few Sundays from now until May 8. This is some thing Danielle really wants to do so we have accepted scaling back the riding to help her. Time flies and she will be going off to college in 4 years. If some one plans something and we can make it, we will.
  19. Yep, Bob. You just brought it up. I actually was thinking about this a few weeks ago. However, I don't know right now what weekends I have free. We are getting pretty involved with horse shows and competitions on weekends.
  20. I am not attending, but it sounds like EVERYONE should call and cancel their reservations at Oberlin Inn and let Rex know that the group WILL NOT be back. Best way to deal with a difficult business is not patronize them.
  21. I had to dismount the rear brake fluid resevior to get the dogbone off the right side. Maybe I would not have needed to if I wanted to use a regular allen wrench, but I was using an allen socket.
  22. Doing some winter maint on the bike. I see a few people mention using Autolites and of course the NGK OEM plugs and the platnums. Anyone use Champions? Pulling the original plugs, they are burning clean. The gaps are worn out to .038 Local O'Reillys has NGKs or Champions.
  23. I had XM for a few years (still have the radio, cords, and antenna). Got tired of paying so I bought a little FM transmitter that plugs into the 12v power supply. I plug in my MP3 or a flash drive and it plays thru the radio for hours.
  24. Warm water and a soft cloth. Lay a warm wet towel over the w/s and let sit a few minutes to sofent the bugs then wipe clean. I do the same on the faring.
  25. Stebel horn, boots, socks, sweatshirts Now that Christmas is over, it is time for warm, summer riding weather.
