  1. Went riding today. It was great: sunny and 80. Anyhow, cleaning the bikes after dinner, I lost a screw and nut on the front, front fender trim. I had tightened it once before, but did not think much else of it. Guess I will be pulling the other nuts and adding a little bit of tread lock. Glad I did not lose the trim piece.
  2. I changed my final oil at 600 miles. Used Royal Purple to refill. On my non-cycle vehicles, if the diff fluid and/or tranny fluid is full, clean, and not burnt/discolored, I leave it alone.
  3. I can go a full tank on the RSV stock seat. On my 650 Silverado stock seat, 50 miles and I was in pain. Put the Mustang seat on the 650 and I can ride a full tank (about 130 miles).
  4. As said, you do not have to take the wheel off. This is a quick 15 minute job. And you really should not have to take the Reed Valve off either. I did not need to on mine.
  5. Freebird, Boy am I glad to hear that. I was riding Earlier this week on the freeway. Just was not paying attention I guess. Zipping along a 80 mph, I noticed that the OD light was not on. Oops! Was still in 4th. Did this for about 10 miles before I noticed. Guess I was just happy to be riding.
  6. if you have 1 or 2 cords that need using, pm me with $$ and ship to Tulsa, OK. I have the headsets with mics, just need the cords.
  7. I did something similar to my 650. Rather than removing the cone or using a hole saw to take the center pipe out, I just drilled 6 holes thru the cone and rear baffle (http://www.650ccnd.com/drillout.htm). Anyone else done this on the RSV? I would think that drilling like this would accomplish the same removing the last center pipe, although I think it looks better using the hole saw rather than drilling. I have been thinking about doing this to mine, but have not yet.
  8. I did some measuring and cutting last night on a few pieces of 4x4. Trimmed it down to 3x3, notched out the length to cradle the frame. I hoep this will work for the time. I am going to take my time with and make sure the bike is stable before wrenching on anything. And I will have some one helping me. Otherwise, I will be taking up Rosebud on her offer.
  9. Yep. After looking a bit under the bike, I saw that the jack alone was nto going to work.
  10. I don't really want the jack on the oil pan/bottom of the engine, but I cannot seam to get it placed onder the RSV to get the weight off the rear wheel to put on leveling links. Any help?
  11. Well, that is what I figured. And I ain't gonna try to rig anything to the 2 1/2 ton floor jack. I have been wanting a bike lift. Here is my excuse. Oh, lovely wife of mine? Rosebud, I appreciate the offer, but I have no clue what I am doign this weekend, let alone a week from now. Does Phil plan that far ahead or do you schedule for him? If I have not gotten it done before then though, I will take you up on it. Otherwise, I may just ride up there for the sake of riding.
  12. When I ordered the links, I really did not think about it, but I do not have a center stand on the bike nor do I have a bike lift. Is it at all possible to change the links without lift or stand?
  13. Heck, I have enough of that laying in the garage for the diesel pickup. Guess I should just start putting it in the V* too.
  14. Another update. Upgraded my Adobe and now it works.
  15. Dang puter! Grabbed the wifes laptop and it opened up. I guess mine needs a litte "percussive" maintanence.
  16. Thanks for the link. I snt Juggler a PM. I tried to download, but got message that the file was damaged. I am not able to open it either. Gonna try different puter.
  17. Is anyone aware of an online service manual for the RSV? If not, does anyone know of a manual on CD? And maybe a dumb question, but... Is changing the oil on RSV the same (just as easy) as my Vstar 650?
  18. I was told that mine was not fully seated. Put about 100 miles on it since they "fixed" it. Seems fine for now. Keeping my fingers crossed.
  19. Glad we did not wait on the bike. Service guy said only about 45 minutes, but he was finishing up a bike from yesterday. Had other things to do, so I just told him I'd be back after lunch. It was ready and quiet again.
  20. Well, since my parents are here visiting from Michigan, and Dad has not been able to ride his Kaw Voyager all winter, he is following me up there on the 650 Silverado. Guess we'll be 2 up back to the house.
  21. Thanks for the replies. He said he could fix it while I waited. I guess it will take about an hour or less.
  22. Coming home from work today, I heard a weird noise from the rear of the bike. At first I thought it was a brake pad dragging. Nope. Then I thought maybe something stuck to the tire. Nope. Only 250 miles on my week old RSV. Called the dealer service dept. The service man asked if it was a "creaking" noise, regaless of bike running. Yep! Taking the bike to him in the morning. He said he has seen it before. The splines to the final drive (? i think that is what he said) were not set deep enough. Anyone else have this problem? Is it safe to drive the bike the 10 miles to the service dept?
  23. Was out riding my new 07 RSV today. Once I heard it, I new it was "The Chirp!" Did not really notice it below 60. I hear it loudest at 68 mph. Over 70 it goes away. My fix is easy and free: turn the radio up.
