Full face helmet will reduce your peripherial vision. I can see how it would make you claustrophobic. Half or 3/4 helmet might be best for you. As for leaning, when I rode years ago with my dad, and my wife does the same now, just sit comfortably and "relax." Unless the bike is leaning too much, you, driver and bike will all move as one. Just takes a little getting used to.

I know you are all thinking that I am going to warn of hitting your leg on the exhaust. Although a concern and painful when done, that is not my warning here. As we all know, there are LOTS of bugs out there. There is an odd chance that one of those bugs just may be a bee. And there is an odd chance that that bee just might end up in the leg of your shorts. That makes bees angry. You don't want an angry bee in the nether regions of your short.

Need a little help with my other Yamaha: VStar650
Jethroish replied to Jethroish's topic in Watering Hole
And the saga continues.... Still getting a clicking sound in the rear of the 650, I finally got tired of 'mickey mousing' it. I drained the final oil (which was changed less than 500 miles ago) and found metal shavings. After taking the final drive assembly apart, I discovered the pinion end bearing is bad. It was allowing the pinion shaft to wobble. I will be checking for parts tomorrow. Don't know if I can just get new bearings or if I will have to buy the full pinion gear assembly. Just thought I would pass along the info. -
Orrin and Danimal, thanks for the phone calls. So far we have not had any problems finding the few places we have had to go. Everyone here at the hospital is very friendly and helpful. Mom-in-law had 2 strokes, but we were told that as far as strokes go, these wer not bad and they expect her to make a near 100% recovery, but it will take 3 to 6 months. The strokes occured as a result of restricted blood flow rather than a full blockage or clot to the brain. Thanks for the support here. Bronson

Got a phone call at work just an hour ago. My wife and I are headed to Madison in minutes. My mother-in-law had a stroke and is in St Mary's hosp in Madison. We know nothing about Madison and may need help with getting around to her truck and her dog at the Humane Soc. and what-not. Mom-in-law drives a truck so we will probably doing the Super 8 thing. Just to know that there is some one that can help us around will be a comfort. Thanks Bronson 812-256-5619

I would love to join you, but I will be riding the roads from my house to work. You planning on 62 to Sulpher then 66 to Tell City?

It will be interesting to find our, for sure. I keep looking at it and notice several things. Some one did point out the reflector on the front fork. Identical to the Vulcan. The turn signals have the same cone shape as Vulcan. The mirrors have the Kaw shape. But I am not really convinced on any bike. Whoever makes this had to be pretty confident that it would not be recognized easily. If we knew where in the country the picture was taken, that might help.

Although the saddlebags have more of a Kaw Vulcan look, I don't see Kaw putting a V-twin in their new touring bike, considering it will most likely be on a Concours chasis. The hinges on the bags resemble those on the 2nd gen Venture as does the shape of the trunk. But the side hinge on the trunk says HD. The crash bar on the front looks identical the one on the HD pictured here also, as does the chromed tank console. The antenna looks like the HD antenna. Nothing like what is is on RSV. I will say that the tank badge might be a new Suzuki Boulavard badge. But my $$ goes on HD.

Do you just mount them to the existing light/turn signal bar with clamp like a Kuryakyn quick clamp?

Been there, done that. No response to my question. That is why I asked here. I ride the 650 at least once a week myself. -

Thought I would post an update. I pulled the rear wheel today and greased the splines on the shaft and greased the fingers of the final drive. When I put it back together, it looked like the final drive was ever so slightly out of alignment. Since wife and I were out on the RSV for lunch, we stopped by local dealer to inquire about shims. Talked to a service guy and he said the only shims I would need, if any, are inside the final drive assembly, and if I need them, there is a bigger problem. He said it would probably be caused by a bad bearing. I went home and got it all back together. The alignment is off by 1mm or less. Rode it around the neighborhood, trying to get it leaning good. No clicking. I will put it to a better test in a few days by riding it to town and back to see if warming up the final drive makes a difference. -
Your biker name is, FLOUNDER! Actually mine said "Moose of the Hungry Horses MC" Wife's is "B*tch of the Heavy Horses"

I bought the cheaper model from Sears. Think I paid $60 or $70. The lift by itself will not work on the RSV. You need to get or make an adapter. I trimmed down a few 4x4s and notched them out to match up to the frame. Anyhow, I am pleased with my Sears bike lift.

Life of a tire will vary with riding styles. Where someone may only get 8000 miles on a D404, I got 13,500 on my original rear 404. For the money, I think the 404 is a great tire. Bridgestones? I have no experience so I can onlygo by what has been reported here. Same with Metzlers, although my dad runs only Metz on his Kaw Voyager with no problems. Just 2000 miles ago, I replaced my tires with Dunlop E3s. I have no complaints about them. They stick great to the road are good in rain.

I was wondering if there are other mounting places/option aside from the factory horn or inside the fairing. But since Dan's is a 1st gen, and I have a second... I was thinking about trying to mount one under the bike where the center stand would go. Yea, it might take a hit from road debris, but there, looks would not matter.

If you choose to go to court: 1) if the officer does not show, case/ticket dismissed. I don't think it is very likely he/she would not show up. 2) if you are very polite and explain that yes, you probably were speeding and did not realize it, (personal experience here) the judge may reduce the fine and no points if you stay clean for 6 months. Personally, I think the later is the BEST that you may get. Just my 2 bits.

Would this only be heard in a good lean? On my RSV, when the "creaking" started, it did not matter is the bike was straight up or leaning? Taking the rear tire and hub off is not much different than the RSV. I plan to pull the tire and check for grease on the "fingers." -
Let me first say that I realize this forum is mainly dedicated to the Venture and Tour Deluxe. That said, I posted on a board for VStar 650s and have not gotten any response. And with the vast knowledge here, I am hoping some one can offer some insight. I rode the VStar 650 the other day and when coasting into the driveway (left turn), heard a clicking sound from the rear tire. I put the bike up on the lift and spun the tire. I could hear what I think is the wheel bearings rattleing, as if they are dry, but no clicking. Drove the bike around the neighborhood and never heard the clicking. Today I rode this bike to work. Once there, I circled around the parking lot, pulled in the clutch and coasted a left turn or 2. No clicking heard. When I returned home, and did my normal coast into the driveway, I initially heard no noise, but then leaned a little more and "click, click, click." The final drive fluid was changed about 350 miles ago with Castrol Syntech. Rear tire was changed 2000 miles ago by a trusted dealer (known this dealer most my life and good friend of my dad's) and I was told the splines were greased. My thought is I need to replace the rear wheel bearings and grease everything up while it is apart. Any other thoughts? Thanks Bronson

Gotta watch that Boca Raton Retiree Gang.

Also, from Whitefish Point I believe, you can take glass bottom boat tours of some of the shallower shipwrecks of Superior. If you are up that way, Tequamenon Falls should be seen. It is also only about 1 hour across the Mac Bridge to Sault Ste Marie and the Soo Locks. You can take boat tours through the locks. After Labor Day, touristy things begin to shut down Don't forget some warm clothes. You will definitely need them in the evenings and night.
