Plugged car tire? Yes Plugged MC tire? probably not

Needing an excellant tire
Jethroish replied to dleggett1's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
There are many tire threads running amok here on the boards. My vote is for the Dunlop E3s. I got 13,500 out of my OE D404s and replced them with the E3s. I now have 7000 miles on my E3s and they still look new. They are great on wet roads and handle super on dry. SWMoto Tire has a super price on them and you will have tires on your doorstep in 3 days or less.- 19 replies

Finally did my oil change today. Ran Mobil1 MC oil for the last 4500 miles. It did not look too dirty. New filter and Rotella Syn 5w40. And about $20 cheaper than the Mobil1.

Give me a shout if you come to southern IN/Louisville area.

Night riding on the interstates -- what's the big deal?
Jethroish replied to Dave77459's topic in Watering Hole
Mybe if he had a smooth running, highly reliable Venture, he would ride more. Once a week (weather permitting) I am riding home from work at 2am. I too, worry most about the 15 miles of back roads because of deer and drunks. Not too many drunks though at 2am Tuesday. -

Don't see how an inert gas can really add any benefit. When I scuba, nitrogen is bad. It is what can cause the "bends" and possibly kill you.

If you don't get one before Tues, I might can help. I am pretty sure I have 2 of them, but I am in Mexico drinking margaritas this weekend.

Highway peg

Bike is fine. On the way to the ER she even joked about she was glad the bike did not move. She is taking it very well.

Mother-in-law was in the garage today and stepped wrong and fell. When she went down, she hit her left eyebrow on the highway peg of the RSV. No broken bones, just a major shiner and 50 stitches. RSV-1, Mother-in-law-0 She is already laughing about it, so all is well.

Don't have HBO, but will gladly pay shipping if some one recorded it and can burn a dvd to send to me.

My OEM D404s began to howl around 8 or 9000 miles. Slightly louder in a turn. There was no cupping, but you could feel the wear on the tread.

Glad you are o.k. We all have to be wary of these idiots. The driver either never saw you or saw it all and decided to haul butt.

Hope you heal soon. Having weekends off this year and being so close, maybe we will get to ride together some time.

Recommended Tie Down Procedure?
Jethroish replied to GG54172's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Not to high-jack the thread, but should the air be released from the front forks when tieing down by the handlebars? Seems to me that since the forks will be compressed for a long period of time, while tied, it would be best not to have any pressure in the forks. Maybe I am paranoid, but I that is what I do. -
My dad got his first bike (Kaw KZ 400 deluxe) when I was 8 years old. Since then, I knew I would have a bike one day. In 2006,wife and I looked at and bought a used (700 miles) 2006 650 Silverado. While looking up infor on Yamaha's web page, I saw the picture of the 06 RSV. Cannot recall that I had seen one, but it looked good. I was all set to buy one until I found out that the 07s were going to be blue. That would work out better anyhow becuase by the first of 2007, we would have no vehicle payments. In Jan 2007, we made the last payment on our Ram 2500. Just a few weeks later, I went and test rode the 07 RSV. You can figure out the rest from there. I have sat on, but not rode, my dad's 98 Kaw Voyager. Although it feels lighter, I would rather have my RSV. After putting 20,000 miles on the bike in 1 1/2 yrs, I am guessing I will have it for many more years.

Being the first "dresser" I have owned, I cannot compare it to others, but... This bike has plenty of power and rides very smooth. Yes it is top heavy with a weight of nearly 900 lbs with full fuel. A little squirrelly at slow speed turns, but by lowering front/raising rear or putting on a narrower front tire, that gets better. I cannot imagine that you would have trouble with this bike after having a GW. I am 6' with 36 inseam. I get a little cramped after a while, but with the highway pegs, I can stretch out to my legs' content. And if yo have a large collection of cassette tapes, this is the bike for you. I thought I wanted an Ultra Glide, having ridden my in-laws, but for what the RSV offers and 5 yr warranty, I could not justify spending $6000 or more extra for the HOG.

Maintenance NIGHTMARE
Jethroish replied to NV_Trucker's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Was the gas tank ever replaced? New tanks normally are shipped with a coating on the inside to prevent rust. If it is not flushed out prior to use, the coating will gunk up the carbs. Aside form that, I agree with the above suggestions of draining tank. If the dealers all did carb work, I would say there is some type of contaminent in the tank. I know this will sound stupid, but are all the plug wires connected? I would guess yes since it runs good for a little bit after the dealers. But if a cyclinder is not firing, you are blowing gass out the exhaust. Good luck and keep us all informed. SOMEBODY here knows the fix. -
One of my uncles retired from Penzoil. He was a research chemist there in Texas. After much testing and reverse engineering of oils over the years, he told me this for my vehicles: if it takes 5 qts, put in 4 qts regular and 1 qt synthetic. Does not mateer if it is name brand or store brand. Change oil and filter every 3000 to 4000 miles and you should have no problems. And DO NOT ever use Slick 50! Been doing that for years now. But with the bike, I am a little more A-retentive.

Gonna have to get HBO. That is gonna be a tear jeker of a movie. I was touched just watching the trailer.

I truely home Yamaha makes thing right for you. The 5 yr warranty is part of the reason I got the venture. Maybe some one from Yamaha follows this site and will realize the detriment of not upholding their end of the agreement.

Congrats! After we had our 2 put down a few years ago, we said no more. It only took a year to real miss having a dog or 2. We adopted a rat terrier and shi-tzu 2 years ago. Have fun with your new family member.

Pretty easy to do these yourself. Tip for the truck rack: When you are sure you have it where you want it, trace around the mounts with a dry erase marker. Then you can just drill in the center of the marks. Be very careful with the supplied mounting bolts. They will gouge the chit out of a helmet in the trunck. I went and got some pan head screws then put a little pad of felt on them.
