  1. I needed to oil my throttle cables...I noticed my throttle grip felt really tight...lol..everyone had me worked up thinking I was gonna mess something up. Little bit of oil...hooked up my Carbtune Pro and off we go! You all will learn...I am a non stop tinker and no question should ever be unasked. Thank goodness I found VR! Thanks again Joboo!
  2. Put carbs back on bike after removal for exterior cleaning. I did not go into carbs but did seperate the bank. After putting back on bike I noticed my throttle was slow to come back. I adjusted cables and the same thing. Both carb #1 and #2 I noticed that the springs connecting the throttle wheel and connecting the linkage on #2 where not tight. I am pretty sure that is my issue. Now...I dont know why or how they are loose. This might be a stupid question but is this associated with the TPS sensor by any chance. I did not remove the TPS nore bracket connected to #2. I am confused and I am sure I am going to have to remove the bank again but I would like some info on what I need to do. Thanks again!!!
  3. I did take them off the bike though. Took the carb boots off and plugged the holes and went to cleaning. Going to fix all the surface cacks in the boots, just to make them look better. Cleaning all linkage and oiling wires and springs. Doctors orders say I cant ride for 30 days untill I heal up. Now I have plenty of time to do all the nit picky stuff. Polished all the brass linkage...looks great! I cant stand to be bored...
  4. She runs pretty good to be 16 years old...I was wonderin if you could clean them out somehow. Tomorrow if the rain holds off I think I am going to remove the carbs and show them a little love...never removed them before and it is time for a good cleaning I am sure.
  5. On my bike (96 Royal Star) I have the original exhaust and those 4 big old mufflers. Say I had a bunch of carbon deposit inside the mufflers...how would you go about cleaning or flushing them out? Could ya remove them from bike and get a few cans of carb cleaner and a air hose and go to sprayin and a blowin? Would that accomplish anything or not?
  6. I sent him a message this morning about his spring system that everyone talks about but no reply as of yet. I guess it started having that slipping feeling right after we moved out here to Columbia. I have not been riding as much as usual cause of the slipping. Oh hell...it is an easy fix. I am never not doing something on the bike. Always tinkering...haha.. thank you all for the input! Everyone on this site is eager to help.
  7. Starting to get some slipping in 5th gear. The bike has 42,500 miles and it feels like I am riding into a heavy wind. Kinda a pause type feel while at speed. Also when I get on throttle in 5th it rpms up then takes off. But only in top gear. What do you guys think? You know..now that I think about it, I never noticed it until I went from Mobil 20w-50 synthetic to the Mobil Racing 4T 10w-40...could that be an issue? Thanks guys.
  8. Had my new Avon VenomX 150/90-16 80H installed today. My last one wore flat in the middle due to me running it with to much air pressure. Why did I run to much psi is beyond me. Call it a $145.00 mistake. 54 to 56 psi and it turned into a car tire...totally square. It started riding so bad that I thought my swingarm was worn out. Had swingarm checked while tire was off and no play at all...perfect. New mount and balance and the old girl tracks true as ever. Bring on the weather...we are ready to roll once again! Thinking about a Thanksgiving ride to Myrtle Beach tomorrow...gonna be a beautiful day here in South Carolina.
  9. Anyone know of a place to get a set of lower windshield mounting brackets for a 96 Royal Star? I have the lower glass, no way to mount. Thanks
  10. Please let me know how it worked out. I dont know why this thing I have bounces all over. I am talking 900RPM to 1600 RPM...I know my bike is not running that rough.
  11. Let me do a little reading on the bullet...I think I read somewhere that you dont want to use the tack hardwired to the bike to set the idol mix? Why?I dont know what the difference would be. Is it a more spot on reading via the plug wire? Look...I has to be better then this bouncing around thing I thought I got a deal on. I just live off 77 on Windsor Lake...rain tomorrow so let me give you a ring and let you know. Thanks once again! ..
  12. Venture and Royal riders, brothers or sisters...I really need to borrow a tach. I have my mix all out of whack. I am a tinker, and started messin with that dang screw and now I cant get it right with this multimeter/tach deal I have. I have a brand new Carbtune Pro that you can use if you would like to. Heck, anyone on this site that lives around here can use it if needed. Thank you all, I am about to pull my hair out!
  13. Tried to watch the up and down on the Carbtune...lol...I guess I need to just find me a GOOD shop tach. I have a hard time hearing the RPM change. My hearing just isnt what it use to be. Well actually I have a hard te setting the idol speed back to "1050" after turning the screw. But no..just to hard to tell via Carbtune.
  14. Ya know...I love this website. RON....MON...PON...There is some good imformation below. I gonna get home hop on my scoot and head to Ft. Jackson for some ethenol free 87!

  16. I am wanting to get a tach for all the times you need one to tune on your bike. I have one built into a multimeter that has RPM and a lead you clip on a plug wire. Problem is, the damn numbers are all over the place. It reads RPMs but one moment you think you are set at 1050 then you are at 850, 975,1300,1100, then it bounces to 800....I mean I am totally tuning and syncing by ear, cause who knows...drives me crazy! So I am in search of a tach like the one in my service manual...I have a 96 Royal Star XVZ13A. So please tell me...do all digital tachs bounce numbers around or is it just the format of the multimeter. I have read that people fuss about buying a digital and it cant notice when you adjust something or is to slow in putting a read out. All thoughts and info on a good one would be great! Thanks all!
  17. I always run 91 or better in mine. On my bike un der the seat there is a sticker...it says there to run no less than 91. So that is what I have been doing. As far as I know they will not allow ethenol on Military bases?...I know at Ft. Jackson they are all ethenol free pumps and I think at Ft. Sam in SanAntonio was the same.I just put on my bright green vest and fill her up.
  18. 1996 Royal Star : Been playing around with pilot screw tuning options. I have a digital induction rpm meter...rpm bounce around but never over 1200 or under 900 rpm when idol set at 1000, or as close as I can figure by ear. I set it but still not happy. Then I got an IR temp gun and with the heat around the motor I never seemed to be getting an accurate temp as it flucated no matter what I measured on..and I ,measured almost everything on bike. So yesterday I took all the pilot screws out and cleaned them up and cut a little deeper grove for the srewdriver. I put them back in, set and left it at that for the evening. I have a brand new Morgan Carbtune for syncing...could I set my idol fuel air mixture with it? Shouldnt the vacuum change as the rpm rise and fall...just a thought.
