  1. tx2sturgis where are you located. there is a pre release viewing in Dallas on the 21st of January. If you are close by I will tell you where. boomer
  2. If you liked the RSV you will love the RSTD. If you don't need the two up comfort and convenience, you will be more than pleased with the bike.

  4. Probably the biggest difference is the windsheild and passenger backrest are detachable making the TD a little more like 2 bikes in one. I owned a TD for a number of years and loved it. if youre already in love with a venture then you will not be satisfied with the mistress. boomer
  5. Planning is a key to this ride. Much of the old highway no longer exists and its sometimes hard to know where it stops and where it begins again. No matter its worth the effort. boomer
  6. I am afraid its time to admit that Yamaha is not interested in what their long time riders think or want. I beleive it is about economics and they are interested in attracting the newer younger breed that is looking at sports tourning bikes and sportster look a likes. I have been waiting to hear what they were going to do with 2014 models, before i made up my mind about what is probably going to be the last bike i purchase. I settled on the Road King and as of this moment am very happy with the new bike.
  7. That whine is not something you will have to listen for. You can clearly hear it as you go through the gears. The whine is some bikes is louder than in others, dont know the reason for that. Yamaha used to fix it under warranty, but it is so prevelant they no longer do that. I can tell you with my RSTD it is very annoying, but not so much that i would get rid of it for that reason. You seem to get used to it. But ride a demo and if its something that you cant live with, get something else. its not going away on its own. Boomer
  8. I am new to the forum although i have been reading from the forums for some time. I dont want to waist anyones time, however i do have a question or two that i have not seen asked. I have been riding for some time and have been riding in particular a RSTD, second generation. the day is approaching when i am going to have to retire the td and go to something else. I know the time will come when i wont feel comfortable handling a 900 pound bike. I am considereing the road star or the raider. my question is do any of you have any experience with either of these bikes after having ridden the TD. thanks Boomer
