Since everyone is telling you where to go, I won't bother, because I haven't done it like the others. My 2 cents is about what ride to take. If you don't NEED a bike, and with a 99RSV at 50k on the clock, almost all of us agree you do NOT need to take another bike. That said, I would take the bike you already are comfortable with and know its nuances. Flip side is the Vulcan, although came up short on these alleged tests, is an extremely reliable machine. It does feel a bit flimsy in the trunk thickness but overall a solid machine. I would suggest you actually ride/ rent one for a day to see if you can deal with its handling and its massive distribution of heat, which Kawasaki claimed to fix. I rode one and they are so nimble and user friendly. Since you have your fantastic RSV, you don't need another bike. Save that money on spoiling your wife every chance you can one that trip. That's what I would do. And , there is someone on VR in every state to help out if need be, which I doubt...

Beware of anyone who is: Out of the country On assignment from work On assignment from military Looking for a friend in another state or country Does not give legit number or email If they say shipping is handled or has a friend to deal w transport If they say pay us first If they say or do anything that causes a gut feeling. Sadly, these losers pray on the good natured, non informed, trusting and or the weak. If you can't get a legit physical address, email, phone number or physically can not see, touch or ride the bike and see its title, stay away and do not waste anymore of your precious time ...

Special shout to the kawasaki yamaha dealer in Eustis Florida
Barrycuda replied to Barrycuda's topic in Watering Hole
Bobby, you never cease to make me laugh!!! Eustis is a place where one scratches ones head. Thankfully I was just passing through. -
+1 on the advice to ride!! No need to tinker on a 2013!!!!! If you ever ride to Florida, I'll be able to use my CarbTune on it and see where she's at... Hint....that's an offer to head to Florida

Kia is the sister company, or daughter company of Hyundai. The Kia's have come a long way in style, and reliability, as is hyundais. I owned a few old school Hyundai 4-5 speed hatchbacks and you could drain the oil, add sand and still drive. FUN CARS. A co worker has the 2012 optima and simply raves about it. So far all news about them are pretty positive. Good luck !

Next week I would have had my 03 RSV exactly one year! Since then here is what took place motorcycle wise: Joined this site. I was speaking with FREEBIRD prior, knowing ZERO about what to look for in a venture and he was an amazing example of how we all try to help give the best advice/ knowledge Rode through Tennessee, Kentucky, North Carolina, N.Georgia mountains, all in ONE year Rode successfully through tail of the dragon, along with many from the site during Vogel... Contributed many times to those on the site I have never met but needed some assistance/ help... Contributed to St.Jude.. Participated in Patti and Don yearly BBQ in Martin,TN Broke my previous record of miles ridden per year. Previous was 4,300 miles. Many reasons for that but I am approaching 11K with 6 weeks left... Learned about stabil, techron, seafoam and pure gas locations and various websites for gear and parts... Started to learn basic modifications and making proper corrections and fixes. Something I was not able to do without the EXCELLENT technical posts and calls from others... Met, spoke to, written to, rode, and broke bread with some fantastic, really great people. Not limited to but including: Steve K, Brd7666, Dragonslayer, B2mom and dad, Ruffy, aussie annie and Al, the 3 musketeers who rode HD to the BBQ, monty,Brake pad and Karen, big Mike/ eusa1 and his wife, Buddy and his wife, Squidley, Rick butler, playboy, Dion, yammer Dan, GAwildkat, Kim from WV, Eck and Konnie, and a whole bunch more that my brain sees but forget the names.... This site is clever, fun, informative, protective, helpful, family oriented and down right amazing. So thanks to you fine folks and this fine motorcycle , I have been allowed to free myself and live and enjoy more of my riding time knowing people like all of you are on this site !!!

Amen to that! Heck, I never even knew a venture existed at one time until I saw one at BikeWeek a few years back.

Last week I rode through Florida on my way to Sanford Florida by way of Eustis Florida.during my trip my bike felt squirrelly and needed air. Initially I pulled into a tire kingdom. This was about 1030 am. I was on my way to meet a friend from NYC who took his newly purchased 1982 Honda CB900F super sport to stay w me for the winter. Tire kingdom had 4-5 workers just standing around, no customers and yet refused to help me saying they were busy. After saying a few choice words in Spanish, and in English in my head, I went back a ways to find the kawi yamaha place. Was not even there 4 seconds before they took they bike, filled them up w air, gave me a cold water bottle and said have a safe trip. I never been there and they treated me like I was a long time customer. THAT'S SERVICE!!!! I recommend anyone who passes through there to stop in and say hello. Great guys.

Good luck Lewis and keep us posted. you're in our prayers

Please keep us posted on how things are going. You're a stand up guy and a lot of fun to be around. Now maybe I can get better MPG by not having all these note books to write my conversations with you... Seriously, good luck and keep us up to date... You Rock!!

Perhaps that many have commented and many more have read the initial posts or replies, we can swing the pendulum back towards adding more posts. I myself do not get upset for things that are not PC. It adds flair and at times honesty. I enjoy this site, its members both via email, phone and in person. Granted some don't ride ventures, but at the same time id rather deal with a rider who is a decent person, regardless of the bike. In my opinion, this site has the best people. So lets all try to rally around the dip in posts and start talking bout things...

Here is my take, for what it's worth... A few of the things mentioned are probably true. Winter for some, gearing up for the holidays, work schedules and lack of free time. For me personally, I am not good at giving anybody advice on motors, tranny, wheels, fork bushings, electrical voltage, etc. therefore, I have little to contribute. It seems stupid for me to add or comment on many of the topics bc IDK crap about repairs. I also work 2 jobs and have younger children. Not for anyone to boo hoo me, but it's partly all of that. I wish I knew more to contribute, knew more of y'all personally. I have been here on this site close to a year and this is a fantastic bunch. I am hopeful, we will just ride this out. Perhaps it's an ebb and flow. Everyone seems to have something going on and to align us all is difficult. I would like to add that those who COULD post and just read, should be encouraged to participate simply from a perspective of keeping the forum alive and running well. If anyone wants my 2 cents, there it is...

That's a pretty awesome story. It it always good when people do what they feel is good and right just because.... Let us know how " Charlie" is doing!

Nothing like hunkering down with the items you love in the man cave. Nice.....

Tru dat!!! As for the Big Lenny post, he may be on to something. kawasaki Vulcan/voyager COULD have been an excellent bike if they didn't half ass things like no rear speaker, no LED lights, CD player and the fry your thigh exhaust coming off the exhaust. They cheaply tried to fix that with a plastic port designed to extract the hot as heck air away, but did THAT half way. If yamaha did see that, then they should have been licking their chops at the idea of adding a few basic modern features with keeping the infamous V4, and they would soar in sales!!!! BTW, in of itself...the Vulcan, not the voyager edition, the actual Vulcan no,ad and classic are extremely reliable, trouble free bikes that are under appreciated...

You mentioned external hard drive. If not for install, and just to transfer materials, then any should work. I have an older maxtor 750 GB and 3 western digital 3GB, no issues...

Condolences and prayers to the family. I never met Steve, but by all accounts from others, a first class great guy...

Most everyone will agree that you will find all kinds of answers. There are many previous posts to search for. My 2cents is just what works for ME... I JUST STARTED using mobil1 10w30 for my 2003 venture, after traditional 10/40. Some people commented about it being to thin in the Florida heat, but so far, after 3000 miles and a trip in August to tail of the dragon, the bike is holding up fine. To each there own...

As you can see each post has its own variation of if being good or why bother. The air hawk is a "roho" design which is used for patients in hospitals and nursing homes for prevention of skin breakdown and to alleviate pressure on one or more specific parts. A regular standard size is close to $500. It has been proven to help by distributing weight and not keeping pressure on one spot. I have one for my wife and she loves it. I don't need one w my iron backside but, I believe it is way better than the Wally world special. Matter of price, preference and so forth. For me, I would not hesitate to use it. Hospitals and clinics use the SAME set up for wheelchair patients. It works. Do not pump it to max air.
