Everyone has ideas that are fantastic. Some people have so many wants, it would be a totally new bike, not even called a venture.( like Honda with the "new" Valkyrie). I enjoyed my brief time with the RSV. It's unique, that is for sure. But for all the upgrades and changes being made, how many would really pull the trigger on a 24-26000$ bike? I for one couldn't afford that. I do miss the looks and heads turning on the venture as people really couldn't figure it out what this cool machine was. I like my goldwing, a lot. No bike is perfect. I wish the wing had more metal. But overall, the wing gets a bad rap at times for being plastic, an old mans bike etc. if you just do basic maintainence, and change the oil etc, it'll last as long or longer. And it's low center of gravity really makes me more confident, in handling. For me, the new venture should be modern with some basic stuff that makes it a venture: v4, long lasting motor, unique body parts. But no matter what you ride, you'll always be special if you're a VR member... -
Eck, now ow you know how WE feel when you go above and beyond for us. We appreciate folks like you as well...

Avon Venom X discontinued for second Gen? Replaced by Avon Cobra?
Barrycuda replied to Midnight's topic in Watering Hole
For me, when I had the RSV, I used the venom and the Cobras and although some really disliked it, I was quite pleased. Handled very well, handled rain like a champ and no sidewall or cracking issues -
we as a society have been brain washed that nothing.....nothing except HD is acceptable in this country and its unAmerican to ride anything else.( even though the majority of HD parts and equipment are not made here) They spend billions on advertising to brainwash people. Now, I myself am intrigued and attracted to some of the HD, but I can't drink the kool aid of buying one and having to do all sorts of stuff and spend even more money to make it as reliable and trouble free and the RSV, GW, Vulcans etc. I think we ( as a motorcycle riding entity) like to see HD struggle simply because they and many, not all, but many of the HD riders have a holier than thou persona that they can't been seen with any other bike or owner that isn't HD. Propaganda machine at its finest. I will say, I have met several THINKING HD owners who are not like that. However, by and large sadly, that's not the case, at least from my experience...

Prayers for my wife
Barrycuda replied to kbran's topic in Inspirational, Motivational, Prayer Requests, Etc.
Prayers and good wishes coming your way. We hope she has a speedy recovery and everything is all clear -
On my side of Florida, U.S. 19/ commercial way is notorious for the elderly, drunk, high, blind, deaf, dumb and stupid all out at the same time. In queens, NY, queens blvd. is nicknamed the blvd. of death.... Both places have a high rate of fatalities.most avoidable if ya just slowed down and paid attention...

+1 on the coozies. They really work and super cheap.

Swamp "A", monkey butt, etc. How do you deal with it?
Barrycuda replied to Great White's topic in Watering Hole
Wow, all such good answers. I wear the LD comfort shorts on my rides. No opening for the standing bathroom break but there are no seams and it has been fine. Think about trying a spray such as Axe or gold bond spray? I also carry baby wipes and they are so easy to store. -
My previous 03 RSV loved to settle in and purr about 74-76 mph. It's done faster, but that's when I need to. The sweet spot on that bike is 74-76. My 08 goldwing like to settle in about 70-75 so not far off

Dan my WV brother... oh boy do I feel for you. I'm real sorry you're all banged up and I haven't been on here much. Glad to see you're in better spirits. Fractured rib takes 4-6 weeks to heal, broken ribs, and a dozen of them take a bit longer. Clavicle also is a son of a b*tch. That said, heel up ASAP. Then bring you and your banjo to Florida for some R&R. Try to see about some, any physical therapy as soon as your able to get mobility and motion back. It's essential. Until then, keep being fed grapes by pretty nurses.... We all love ya here.

I have and used wizards products and I can't say enough. They're fantastic and use to use them on my venture, now I use them on my Vulcan and GW

Frog Toggs, anyone go t'em? anything better?
Barrycuda replied to Great White's topic in Watering Hole
I have and use frog toggs over my jackets even though my alpine stars and motoport Kevlar jacket and pants have the rain liner. They are light, fit over the jacket, easy to dry and store away and even if it not raining yet or the rain stops, they aren't bulky or cumbersome and you can keep wearing over your gear. -
Dion, I was told they can not add one on as a factory package, was told you'd just get those that lock down on the throttle, the aftermarket kind...

Sorry I am late to the party here as life has totally smothered me from activities such as this. Many members who have wings mentioned stuff that may or may not be the same as my 2 cents, but if so it bears repeating. first, I'd like to say Barney's in Brooksville Florida are fantastic people. 2 years ago I test rode a 2010 and had it out all day. No one chaperoned me. I had it in traffic, highway, radio loud and louder, abs brakes the works. After speaking w Steve K I decided to keep my RSV because of RSV low miles, well taken care of, add ons from members here and I also took the ride like a pro course and felt I can do anything on it. Took the RSV to the dragon during Vogel and had a blast. For me, I wanted a GW for these main reasons: abs brakes, reverse, low center of gravity for easy handing like a smaller bike in traffic, the loud ass stereo system. Being a smaller guy, I struggles sometimes with the RSV on hills and parking. I never dropped the bike, but it was always in back of mind. Here is what I love and miss about the RSV: it was 2003, two tone paint, had diamond cuts, lights etc and always had compliments. Easy( per se) to change and fix things. I learned from these members how to do my carb sync, my LED lights and minor repairs. I liked having people come up and ask what is that. The bullet proof motor. The fact it had METAL on the tank for my tank bag and can lock individual saddle bags, hasn't stranded me in torrential rain and the Avon Cobras handled the bike with no issues. Here is what I did not like: heavy, top heavy, always on guard with how to maneuver in close traffic and such. The sluggish feeling on hills, the cassette deck, the fact it always had some fuel smell for a day maybe 2 in the garage after a ride, the fact I don't have the skill set or confidence to fix things like the members here( puc, Eck etc)Now none of those reasons were a deal breaker, but I have been OCD about the GW since that test ride and when I was able to financially pull the trigger, I did on a pristine, original owner 2008 ABS model with 24885 on the clock. This was his 8 th GW, because he had the means to upgrade and sell at will. This GW should be my last big bike purchase. The power, the pick up is night and day vs. the RSV, the ABS saved my bacon coming back from 2014 IR when a doe and baby ran less than a foot in front of me full speed and the abs was a blessing, handling was a dream. No fatigue in the seat, which I had Rick Butler modify slightly, the cruise control up hills stays constant, no after smell, the radio is an MP3 player and can place almost 1000 songs and high volume without sacrificing quality, the original owner dropped 4500-5000 on chrome, lights, cb and etc which I would NOT have gone that crazy. overall I love the bike and don't mind saying I should have done it sooner, but the timing wasn't there. I will say here is what I wish were different or changed on the GW: individual locking of saddlebags vs. all lock at same time, air filter changing is absurd, prices for parts and or service is high, the fact most people "ASSUME" I am an old fart with matching helmet and gear ( until they hear my heavy metal blasting) some people don't respect the bike or me as a rider because it is considered"Tupperware", I wish it had electronic windshield and center stand as for me at 5'7 used to be a pain to prop up but I've got the technique down. There really isn't the perfect bike, and pros and cons for everything. For me, my purpose, my wants and desires, my goal is to ride, have fun, not worry about breaking down and being a mechanic, both bikes serve that purpose. For comfort on long trips, both work as I did ride over 1000 miles in or near a weekend in the rain on both, no worries. But as I get older, I want things to be just a tad bit easier. You can't go wrong with either machine, but for my purposes the GW far outshines the RSV, minus those mentioned above. The GW is basically a sport bike with a trunk, it's faster and leans well at faster speeds than RSV Oh....the RSV forum blows away some of the other GW forums, so y'all stuck w me here. And ....some GW members on here like Eck, Steve and the former member Buddy are just some of the best people you can meet, associate with and ride with.

Yammer, just make sure you're all there....or what's left of what ya had to begin with.

Easy Eck!!! I don't like my filthy words this clean. Shame on you

Dan, great to see you on here again. We are all praying for a speedy recovery. My 2 pennies is this: do t force or over think things. Take the necessary time to heal physically and perhaps mentally. No one would want you to rush into anything without making sure you're a,right and it should come naturally. You'll know when the time is right. Please consider... PUC...I love ha buddy and ya know I do, but I gotta razz ya. You went through those numbers and I recall seeing you post Number 6 twice, which really means you had 8 things to say, not seven 😇🎱8⃣🕗

Looks great Eck! Sweet for some extras when you come back to Florida with more stuff for me to learn!!!

Riding In Hot Weather - How to Keep Cool on your Bike
Barrycuda replied to SilvrT's topic in Watering Hole
I always wear full gear in the blazing heat and humidity in Florida. I have. Motoport marathon Kevlar air mesh jacket. Same for over pants, although not a matched set. Technically you can wear T shirt and shorts with them. I wear a base layer and columbia makes the omni freeze which keeps ya cooler. I too, employ the wet doo rag. Also, LD rider makes sleeves that you wet and place on the arms. Another trick I use is place frozen water bottles inside the inner and or outer pockets of the jacket. It has worked. I have a cooling vest but once those pass get warm, it's just extra weight.. One Veteran iron butt rider showed me and it works if you can do it...stop for gas and place your bandana/doo rag and helmet inside the bags of ice container while you fill up. It'll cool down that helmet a bit, and let's face it every bit helps... -
