  1. Ditto. Roy:fingers-crossed-emo
  2. If anyone buys it I'm interested in the TCM or ignition module. I'd bid on the whole thing but its too far from me. Roy 661-874-9164
  3. When shopping for Harleys back 1999 or so (when they were ****-hot and you had to be on a list 2 years to get one) I stopped at Milwaukee HD I was checking out the dealership. Salesman asked wadda think of our dealership? I said it looks like a good place to buy clothes! Roy
  4. I bought a 2001 Road Glide new and kept it 11 years and 106,000 miles. Loved it and if I were a rich man I'd buy an Ultra and trade for new every 3 years. I Made the mistake of replacing the orginal engine-- destroyed inner cam bearing-- with an expensive 103" screaming Eagle dog at 72,000 miles. At that time I should've pushed the broke bike into the shed and bought a Venture. It became a money pit I finally let her go after I hit an Elk near Telluride, CO. I credit the frame mounted Fairing for my walking away unscathed, the Harley totaled. Frame mounted Fairing is part of the reason I have a 1st gen Venture. So far I've got less $$$ into this machine than I spent that one year in labor costs for the Harley! Roy:cool10:
  5. I've had my 1990 Venture about 1/2 a year and put about 5000 miles on so far, no major trouble. However, a few days ago I took a 60 mile trip up I-25 to Denver, 95+ degree heat and 85+ mph most of the way. When The interstate traffic slowed considerably I exited and took city streets the last 10-20 miles. The temp gauge was very close to the red zone for most of the city streets, and was just a little cooler when hammering down the highway. After a few hours I left Denver the temps were cooler, I rode a little slower and the temps were normal and cycle run fine. It has 32,000 miles and coolant level is at the full mark. I beleive the engine fan works. Fuel milage that trip was 37mpg. So, Are these engine temperture extremes normal? Should I be concerned? How do these cycles run in 110 degree weather? (I'll be moving to South CA desert in a few months). Should I look into some service or maintenance work? later, Roy
  6. Hovver dam closer to LV, Glen Canyon Dam not too far away near Page, AZ. One of 2 highways to Page is closed due to bridge out. Check out Oatman, AZ on old hwy 66 not too far from Laughlin, NV. Cool old town, watch for "wild" burros (tourists buy feed to feed them). Roy:080402gudl_prv:
  7. Its hard to find low milage 1st gens for less than $3000. I recently found my blue 1990 with 27,000 miles on Craigslist for $2200, so deals are out there for those that wait and look. As far as bling you need to decide if it is stuff you want or will be trying to sell on Ebay later. Highway pegs, trailer hitches, backrest, luggage racks will each add to the cost of a cycle if you want to add them later. Ride safe! Roy
  8. You need to take the 2 side panels off which are secured with rubber clips just above the transmission. They come off easy, remove the clips and lift up on the panel. Just below the seat and the middle you should see the bolts that hold the seat on, one on each side. To work on the carbs you shouln't need to remove the saddlebags, they are a pain to remove anyway. good luck... Roy
  9. Blue is used for stuff you will want to take apart someday. I think of it as a chemical lock washer. Red is for stuff you don't want to come apart (might need a torch to get it hot to remove). Green is when you have too much clearance and buying new parts not an option. Loctite doesn't work so well with Aluminum or Stainless Steel, in these cases use Loctite Primer N, which contains a small amount of copper to help cure it. Loctite PST is the greatest pipe sealant. no, I'm not a loctite sales rep. Roy
  10. I'm thinking about the TCI upgrade. I bought a low milage 1990 (27,000) last fall, put a floorboard kit on it (much fiddling), working on getting a seat modified to my satisfaction and a R6 brake upgrade. My cycle runs good now and I'd like to take a break from putting more time and $$$ into it. Perhaps if you get to where you need just one more person to buy let me know. Roy
  11. I found a used aftermarket kit on Ebay I paid $170 for it, a pain to install and when I adjusted the shifter for comfort I couldn't get it into first gear. I then started out in second gear and tried the foot brake and locked the front wheel and I bit it on the dirt road. wasn't going fast, just a little bruised up. I'm working on making a new shifter lever, modifying the rear brake lever and will be doing the delink and R6 front brake kit soon. I was going to put floorboards from a 2nd gen Venture, would've required the rear master cylinder and fabricating some brackets but then I found the above kit thought I'd give it a try. The aftermarket floorboard kit places the floorboards in about the same place as the original foot pegs. I really would've liked them further forward so I'd sit on the cycle in a more chair-like position or like my (former) FLTR harley. The aftermarket kit is an improvement over the stock pegs and easier to work with so I guess thats why I'm sticking with them. later, Roy
  12. Take motorcycle safety training course even if you have some expereince, help reduce the chance of dropping it. I recently dumped my 1st Gen, tried the foot brake on a dirt road and the front wheel locked up and down I went. I managed to pick it up. Times I needed help was when 1) my leg was trapped underneath, in an off road hillside. Enjoy your new ride! Roy aka norsk1
  13. :900[1]:years ago I talked to a fella with a hopped up VMax. 140 hp. straight pipes, was loud as hell but was a wicked race car kind of sound. Wish I remembered what else he did to it.
