I should be able to make it. Pretty sure we have no plans for the weekend.

I just returned from a 6 day trip down around the Smokies. 2600 miles and rode a lot of fun roads. The Dragon, Cherohala Skyway, Foothills Parkway, The Snake, and others. Went down a portion of the BRP, Maggie Valley, Pigeon Forge, New River Gorge, Cass Railroad, the National radio observatory near Greenbank W. Va., Wheels Through Time Museum. As always a great trip with minor problems and everyone returning safely. Rain sucked, but I wasn't at work so what the hell. Only problem with the Bumble Bee was the throttle grip coming unglued from the plastic sleeve and coming off. Some super glue from the closest store and I was on my way with no other issues. Will post some more pics once I get more from the guys I went with.

Idle Speed with Dyna 3K module
Ventureless replied to Ventureless's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Anyone with the Dyna 3K? I have adjusted it down some and would like to have a RPM in mind when hooking it up to the tachmeter. -
Last weekend Rider Duke helped me synch my carbs for the first time (very appreciative of everything he helped me do). My idle speed was really low so we adjusted it up to around the 950 mark. Bike starts and runs much better, but now sitting at idle, the idle speed sounds and feels really fast like I am holding the throttle partially open. Throttle freeplay ok and nothing binding. So I start poking around on here and find that with the Dyna 3K, many of you had to adjust the idle speed down some. Not sure what settings are picked on the Dyna as it was on there when I got it. So my question is for those of you that had to lower your idle speed, what did you lower it to? I have looked and don't see anything specific. The closest I see is lower it by a couple hundred RPMs. So does that mean am I looking around 700-800 RPM? Thanks in advance

I would say without as well but with the luggage rack in its place.

Anybody near me that might be willing to lend me a carb tune for a weekend? I am in Warrenton, VA. Thanks, Zak

I have more than one High Point. I have the .380, the C9, the .45, and the 9mm carbine rifle. I love them all. Have never had any issues with any of them and we run the crap out of them. I have had the .380 for close to 10 years now and probably 5000 rounds plus through it. Have never pulled it apart to clean it. Just whatever I can get while it is together. The only jams, FTF, etc that I have ever had was with TulAmmo. Anything else has fed perfectly. Haven't used the others as much, but have never had a single problem with any of them. And if I did, I would just mail it back and let High Point either fix or replace it. I also own supposedly higher quality guns, but the High Points are so cheap and backed so well by their customer service that I figure why not just buy them all. I can drop them, kick them, throw them in the mud or whatever and they still fire and once again if they didn't, they are covered by High Point. And roughly $700 for 3 pistols and a rifle with lifetime no questions asked warranties is pretty damn good in my book.

Buying a 2000 MM - High mileage concerns?
Ventureless replied to PD1313's topic in General Tech Talk
I had the same concerns when I bought my 99 in October. Had rou(ghly 70K miles. It was well taken care of and had a lot of upgrades and extras. Have over 80K on it now and no real problems at all. I love it and fully expect it to go well over 100K miles. -
Don't own one yet, but my next bike (a year or so away) at this point will likely be a Victory (unless Yamaha of course upgrades the Venture some). I will say that I went and looked at the Cross Country and ended up liking the Vision more. To me it is ugly as can be, but talk about comfort. The Cross Country wasn't bad, but for some one as tall as me, the Vision had better ergos. At least for me. So far other than my Kawasaki Concours, I have not yet found a bike that felt fit me more than the Venture. I had Road Glide and it felt tiny to me. I know it isn't, but I couldn't stand it. Same with the Electra Glides. I am a big boy and need some girth under me and the Venture gives me that warm and fuzzy feeling. The Vision is pretty close. And with ABS, FI, heated everything, it is definetely on teh short list of bikes to buy. I will deal with the ugliness for the moderness and comfort.

This is what I did for about 6 months. I had the repair guy out once and it cost me a total of $215 for him to diagnose and replace one little $12 fuse thing. It worked for about 4 months and then did the same thing. So then I just started defrosting myself once a month and it worked perfectly after defrosting until the ice build got to thick again and would not allow the fan to blow the cold air out. Then we bought a new house and I replaced the fridge with a somewhat cheap one and began renting the home. The renters are using the old fridge as a beer fridge in the garage.

Gas mileage comparasion Venture vs RSTD
Ventureless replied to dave_wells's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Same thing on my 99 RSV. A little funny at 70mph. Not bad but can tell it runs differently. 60 and 80 are no problem at all. As a matter of fact, at 80 it is so smooth, I am amazed. My last V powered bike (Vstar 1100) felt like it was going to fall apart after about 65 or 70. 80 and above was downright scary. -
All right I know you said to just go for a collective pitch, but I am really considering the Blade 120. It is fixed pitch, but I think I will have fun with it for a while. And my 7 year old can have it when I move up to the CP. I can pick one up at a local shop for about $125. What do you guys think about the 120? http://www.e-fliterc.com/Products/ProductGallery.aspx?ProdID=BLH3180#quickFeatures

Ok digging up an old thread here. My son got a micro co axial copter for his birthday last week and dad has been the only one playing with it. I was into RC long ago and still have some small electric foamie planes sitting around. I did have a couple helicopters but never really got the hang of it and gave up. Now after playing with my son's, I am ready to try again. SO my question for you flying folks is what is the best one? I am looking for a 4 channel, single rotor, fixed pitch. I know teh 4 channel is not as manuverable as a 6 or 7 channel, but I will have more fun learning on it right now. As big as possible for some outdoor flying in the yard. I have looked at the Esky Honeybee V2 (I believe) and the Exceed Falcon 40. I would like bigger though. Any suggestions would be great. Thanks

Fuel Gauge Oddity
Ventureless replied to Seaking's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I believe mine has the leveling links, but if so they have been on there since I bought it last October. So I am not sure that is it. -
Fuel Gauge Oddity
Ventureless replied to Seaking's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Mine started doing the exact same thing this past week. I ride to work every day so I fill up about every 3 days or so. After 2 or 3 fill ups and then it sitting this past weekend except a short 10 mile or so ride, it went back to normal. Not sure what happened, but it was the same thing you described as happening to your friends bike. -
Performance upgrades
Ventureless replied to Ventureless's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Is this it? MAX-Venture Rear Gearing Tired of having to shift to 4th, or even sometimes 3rd, to get the passing power from your 86up Venture? Does 2up, a trailer, sidecar, or just lots of gear, take the 'wind out of the sails', and make U wish for more power? MAX-VENTURE gears put U back in the 'sweet spot' of the powerband, for MAX efficiency, and better mileage to boot! Make high gear the real TOP gear for your RS/Venture, and no motor mods necessary... (this swap will not void any YAM warranty) In fact, many MAX-VENTURE users report MORE benefit from the improved gearing, than many of the (usually more expensive) performance mods they had already done!!! This is a SIMPLE mod (one step past a tire/wheel change) with a BIG benefit!!! Make the MOST of your Ventures' power, stock or modified, with MAX-VENTURE gears! Polished or black powdercoated add - $80.00 $300. Max-Venture Rear Gears *S&H: *US S&H (ground) - $10 .+(exchange) Stateside Shipping: $25 Ground $40 Priority Mail (2-3 days) $60 Overnight *Avail. outright, with an additional $300. Core charge, completely refundable, when the old rear end is returned in serviceable condition -

Performance upgrades
Ventureless replied to Ventureless's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Sorry. Forgot to include in my first post that the clutch has been done as well as I believe the Dyna3000 (I think done by previous owner). So on my short list will be the Vmax rear swap. Will I need to upgrade anything else if I do the swap? Sorry I am sure I could also search for that so if anybody feels like answering, thanks. If not I guess I can stop being lazy and look it up myself. -
I am looking for some performance upgrades and can't find much. I woudl like to try and get more power from my bike. Any kind of bolt ons? Engine parts? etc. I have the K&Ns. I was looking at this. http://www.phatperformanceparts.com/Barons_Torque_Master_Royal_Star_Tour_Deluxe_Ve_p/ba-2130vn.htm Anybody have this? Just not sure exactly what it does or how well it fits or what else would need to be done. Or if it is even worth it.

Already saw that and plan on going thanks. I am still a year or so from buying something new or newer so plenty of time to test and plan. I love the RSV for the room since I am so tall. I am pretty sure any Harley would be out for me when it comes down to it. It is a nice bike, but teh room is just not there for me. I will know as soon as I even sit on the Victory whether it is for me. My only concern is the seat height on the Victory and the knee angle. When I compare the knee angle with the RSV, it is a lot less. Not sure how that will affect the comfort for me, but I guess we will see.

Actually been doing a lot of reading about the Victorys over the last couple days. Told the wife that we may need to go to the Victory dealer soon to try a few out. I am still about a year or a little more from buying a new(er) bike. But I think the Victory will be in the running. Just can't find to much on teh reliability of them yet.

My best friend is a motorcop for Fairfax County in VA. Those guys are good. I see them at the rodeos every year and after all this time am still amazed. And Miles yes the guys on the Road Kings do raise their bars up. The guys that do it on Electra Glides are always *****ing that the Road Kings have it easy but are more proud when they beat them.

I must say that a Harley may be in the running for my next bike. I have had a couple older smaller ones in the past and was not a fan. Well my best friend upgraded from his 95 Electra Glide to a 2010. I rode it last week and was pleasantly surprised. It has the 96" motor with aftermarket pipes and the power commander. Still not as much power as the Venture (or at least seems that way), but it will get up and move. Also not as roomy as the Venture. But what it did have was a very light feeling compared to the Venture. If nothing else Harley has that down. When I picked it up off the stand, it felt like it was as light as my old Vstar 1100. Felt like a toy. And the same when riding it. Then you also have the fuel injection and ABS. Although the Harley seems smaller for a big guy like me, it may be a serious consideration unless Yamaha makes some changes in the next year or so.

I would also take one if you were closer. Those are some nice looking pups. We have a 12 year old lab mix now and figure it is about time to start looking for a new pup now while ours is still in good shape. Maybe our current girl could teach the new pup some good manners while she can. Just not sure I would have time for a 6 1/2 hour ride each way anytime soon.
