the comfort level is going to be night and day for the passenger and be an improvement for yourself. I have driven both for a few more than a mile or two, lol they are two very different machine as far as performance, the 1300 twin is like most v twins and likes a lower rpm for power. the 2nd gen 1999-2013 venture is going to behave differently in performance as it likes the higher rpm's and is also going to run cooler with a water cooled 4 cylinder engine and cooling fan for the radiator. a bike for 1 up town running around i say the 1300 twin is fine, but if your after a happy rider? momma will whip you for not getting a venture sooner. i can't speak for the 1300 twin for longevity, but one of my ventures is almost getting broke in with 235,000 miles. enjoy the ride whatever you decide... ride safe Mike

RSV Shock Absorber Assembly Repair
eusa1 replied to dfitzbiz's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
well i will be the first guy in line to buy your fix if you figure out a cost effective way to fix a factory shock. i have had 5 fail over the last 230,000 miles and upon inspection of every one of them i found the poorly chromed shaft had worn through the chrome to bare steel and the bare steel rusted and the rust tore out the shaft seal. but i would be happy to see your new found information after you dicect a 2nd gen shock or two. Let me know if you need another failed shock, i have a few. -
the wife and i went to star days last week and took several rides on the new venture. i will share my thoughts but not argue them. it is a very good looking machine, it has every gizmo that anyone could dream of and the lowest seat height in it's class at 27 inches. it sounds fine the reverse and forward assist works well, there is plenty of leg room , and the tour pack is a huge improvement!! it's steering is lite and nimble and easy for the vertically challenged to handle Now to the bad: it hits the rev limiter at 4000 rpm and falls flat until you back off the throttle. it was 100 degree days and that v twin was getting no air and hotter than hello it's not my new venture. $.02

Just thought i would share with you folks. I went to look at a 1999 venture that was recovered by the local sherrif in a road side ditch last March. it had no plates, no saddle bags and no trunk or antennas, battery and drivers seat gone too.It had a correct key broken off in the ignition switch and covered in some type of machine or brake dust as thick as cardboard. other than a crack on the upper and lower fairing it appeard to have no rash or evidence of crash other than where it had been abandoned in a grass ditch. it had stock tires and stickers still on the tank and windshield so i took a gamble and bought it cheap from the county with all the papers needed to make it clean clear title due to no claim from last registerd owner. So i trailer it home, fish the broken key out of the ignition and get the hardware store to cut me a couple new ones. i put a fresh battery in it and it registers just over 3 thousand miles!! it cranks over and wants to start, i look in the tank and find 18 year old fuel (yuck) so pull the carbs and they are spotless ! i dump the tank, clean it and put a fuel filter on it, change the stock factory oil and filter and it starts rite up and idles perfectly! i have extra parts, wheels and tires, put it together without the tour pack and it run 110% ! i tracked down the original owner and he tells me it was stolen when it was a few months old in 1999 2 hours away from where it was dumped off 18 years later! ?? Insurance paid it off 18 years ago and he has no wish to ride anymore. sounds fishy? Yup , do i care ? Nope i got the highest mile 03 venture and the lowest mile 99 venture ! ride safe! Ride often!
