Horn wiring help Please
Long Tall replied to Long Tall's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Just wanted to put a "THANKS TO ALL" post here. I got a lot of help from those that offered input.. Sleeperhawk "chickenhawk" (George) and others helped me make my decision.. I now have the chrome Wolo horn mounted with Larry's bracket and wiring harness....Larry's bracket and harness is (First Class) My ONLY change/addition to the install is I went to my local Ace Hardware and replaced the Bolt, Nut and Lock washer that came with the horn with Stainless....At Sleeperhawks suggestion I bought Stainless washers to use as spacers between Larry's bracket and the horn...Played with the number and ended with using all five...bolt was 5/16th by the way.. Took 30 minutes form start to finish.......Then went for a ride with the wife on the BR Pkwy which is 30 min from my home....We have (1) tunnel here on this section...BOY..was going through that with the Wolo Fun or what !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks to all....This is why this is a GREAT forum ... Who in the "heck" would not want to pay the $12.. Long Tall in Lynchburg, VA PS...If OutKast should read this...I HAD TO go with the "Chrome" WOLO.... It's a Chrome-a-holic thing... -
OK...I can go along with that....Use the V-Max Motor....But...I may be a whole new body make over or they would not stop making some chrome parts....Just my .02 cents worth.. Long Tall

OK...So I'm in Roanoke, VA for the Dealers Big Bike Intro Bash...My Bud who rides a TD was asking about some Chrome Parts....He was told that they were not available...He and I both went to the parts counter and asked them to get the 2009 book out and we started looking up parts....Breather Cover..."dis-continued"...Carb Covers...No again...Saddlebag Lid Trim Rails...(The ones that go on top)....Back ordered...What was of interest is that in the 2010 Catalog some of these parts were pictured on the bike, but show has un-available... Conversation with owner went like this....No Tour Deluxe for 2010....Parts being dis-continued for the Venture...Yamaha took a big $$$ hit last year like most MC manufacturers....His quote"...Doesn't look good for the Venture going forward George!" Just my input....I see a Touring Version of the Stratoliner for 2011..... Long Tall in Virginia

Horn wiring help Please
Long Tall replied to Long Tall's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I contacted Carbon1 about the wiring harness and the mount...I decided to keep the horn in the cowling...Just like the look of the existing horn area. Also....At the last meet & Eat....a couple of folks there had them mounted on the inside of the cowling....Just want that stock look to remain the same, but add the Louder horn... Thanks for the input... Long Tall in Virginia -
Moved this thread from the Watering Hole... Profiessional Input Please: I have read most of the threads regarding wiring of a Stebel Horn. I ordered one today so it will be on for a trip I am taking the end of May to Dragon/Cherohala area. I have decided to go with the "in cowling" mounting option. After reading Freebirds Tech article and others here on the forum I would like "confirmation" that I will be wiring it up correctly. 1. Mount horn vertically in cowling to frame. (Using pipe insulation to cushion per a suggestion on a thread and tie wraps) 2. Splice into hot wire from acc. plug and run wire to relay. ( Per Freebirds Tech article) (Increase size of fuse in lower fuse panel) 3. Wire from relay to horn positive. (Tech article) 4. Ground wire from horn to frame. ?????? 5. Splice into pink wire horn button and run wire to relay. (Threads tech article) What am I missing...anything. NOTE: I restored a 110 year old house here in Lynchburg. I did all restoration work "EXCEPT" electrical....Just not my thing..... Since I am under the cowling and want to keep the OEM horns active, do I need to deal with the "brown" wire everyone refers to in the mounting option on the lower right side of the bike?.... Nice...but when I did a search for Triumph Motorcycle Timeline I get this... http://www.ianchadwick.com/motorcycles/triumph/ and this... http://www.sorenwinslow.com/Triumph.asp Same search for Harley Motocycle Timeline gets me this... http://www.harley-davidson.com/wcm/Content/Pages/H-D_History/history_1900s.jsp?locale=en_US and this was on Widipedia...... In 1894, the Hildebrand & Wolfmüller became the first motorcycle available to the public for purchase.[3] However, only a few hundred examples of this motorcycle were ever built. Soon, as the engines became more powerful and designs outgrew the bicycle origins, the number of motorcycle-oriented producers increased. The first known motorcycle in the United States was said to be brought to New York by a French circus performer, in 1895. It weighed about 200 lb (91 kg) and was capable of 40 mph (64 km/h) on a level surface.[4] However, that same year, an inventor from the United States E.J. Pennington demonstrated a motorcycle of his own design in Milwaukee. Pennington claimed his machine was capable of a speed of 58 mph (93 km/h), and is credited with inventing the term "motor cycle" to describe his machine. In 1898, English bicycle maker Triumph decided to extend its focus to include motorcycles, and by 1902, the company had produced its first motorcycle—a bicycle fitted with a Belgian-built engine. In 1903, as Triumph's motorcycle sales topped 500, the American company Harley-Davidson started producing motorcycles. In 1904, the Indian Motorcycle Manufacturing Company, which had been founded by two former bicycle racers, designed the so-called "diamond framed" Indian Single, whose engine was built by the Aurora Firm in Illinois. The Single was made available in the deep red color that would become Indian's trademark. By then, Indian's production was up to over 500 bikes annually and would rise to 32,000, its best ever, in 1913. Just enjoy doing the research....Not being a PIA ....Just like reading all the history again... BOTTOM LINE.....WE RIDE BIKES WITH MOTORS IN THE MIDDLE OF THEM...I'm OUT OF HERE>>77 degrees here and going riding George In Virginia

My best Bud from college rides a Road King...and we put a lot of miles on the bikes when we can meet up.....But the local HOG Chapter is REAL picky about anyone owning anything other than a HD.. SO....before I got the RSV...I was riding a 2002 Triumph Bonneville America....Would go the Poker Runs and rides and it got the most attention....You see...I started on a 1965 Bonny..... Anyway....I'll wave/stop for anyone but I also like to have fun...So....in 2003 I made a point to let all of the HD riders I met KNOW that I was "OLD SCHOOL" with riding....They looked "Puzzled"..... Then I let them know that Triumph had their 100th Anniversiary in 2002....I then pointed to the 100th Anniversiary Badge on the America.....It was REAL COOL....A lot of that "MYSTIQUE" just melted away.....I would say 80% of the folks I said this to could not believe it even when that saw the Badge. I really BURST a lot of bubbles in 2003 and 2004 and 2005 and 2006...
