All: Thanks for the concerns and thoughts for Donna...She is doing well after the fall in the Badlands Nat'l Park on our last day.... Donna goes to the Dr. for an update on the shoulder....If the bone has started healing, then we move into rehab for about a year. We have been busy since we got back from the trip....Had the VA STAR Chapters together for a picnic and then my Mother came up for a week from FL....Did I mention I own an Investment Firm... Anyway...had some time to do some video editing and wanted to post here. Thanks to all that viewed/followed the Blog....We (Me and Donna) would go back in a heart beat...May do Colorado next.... Here's a Little South Dakota riding... [ame=http://vimeo.com/29899311]Riding in the Black Hills on Vimeo[/ame] Everyone's input on pre-trip do's and don'ts was invaluable. Long Tall Lynchburg, VA

I thought I would post an update to our first Long Distance Trip.... A little over 4000 miles round trip...The 06 RSV got us there and back...Just hummed along...I have posted a link to my blog I posted to every evening if anyone is interested...Updates for the day and pics...I will have to say the Black Hills, area of SD are something to see. Mt Rushmore was very impressive....and Iron Mtn Hwy and Needles Hwy are so much fun we did them twice...Made the trip over to see Devils Tower also...Unbelievable... We did have an incident. On Saturday AM we left Rapid City heading home with a quick stop in the Badlands National Park (65 miles East of Rapid City). Donna fell on some steps at the first overlook and was taken by ambulance back to Rapid City Hospital with a fracture to her right humerus near her shoulder. I ended up putting her on a plane back to Lynchburg, VA Sunday AM...She has seen the Dr. and is now on the mends. I did the 1700 miles home in three days...arrived Tuesday evening. She did say she would do it all again. We had a great trip and we just consider the whole experience another Harbour Adventure.. A couple of items for all you RSV Distance Riders. Pulling the Aluma Trailer cut my gas mileage down. Riding around here in the Ole VA Mtns and I get 40-42...Pulling the trailer and that dropped to 32...I was doing Inter-State speed coming and going...Also at Altitude in Rapid City we would begin our day at about 8:00 AM Mountain Time. For the first 45 minutes or so the Carbs pinged like crazy...I actually thought something was loose for a while...I will say that the local Yamaha Dealer was pretty good to me. On the day before I left, I took the Bike in and had them just "CHECK" for things that MIGHT cause a problem coming home...Charge me $40..I thought that was reasonable for a check of all the systems...Tires, Fluid levels, etc.... Here is the Link to the Blog. http://trailblazingharbours.blogspot.com Thanks again to all that help with questions and advice that made the trip easier... Long Tall Lynchburg, VA

Hey All: Wanted to extend a BIG Thanks to all of the members here who helped with my posts over the last month or so...Leaving tomorrow AM for South Dakota (1600 miles one way). Did a lot of pre-trip prep to my 06....Wiring for the Trailer...Had a weird running light issue that Freebird covered....Have to say....Followed every bit of input....Now...Just have to hit the road and make it happen...Decided to do a Blog for the family to follow, and decided to post here if anyone is interested.... Mt. Rushmore or "BUST" check it out.... http://trailblazingharbours.blogspot.com Back in Lynchburg, VA on the 16th.... Later... Long Tall

Thanks All for the input...If anyone says this forum in not worth the $12, they need to have their ....... Examined.... Also used the site to remove front cowling for the first time today...Add a SilverStar bulb.... Split the Aux. Line on the amp....All with pixs... Thanks to all who provided input... Now I'm pretty much ready for the 13 Days on the road to South Dakota.... Long Tall Lynchburg, VA

Bought the MCT from a forum member in the spring...I have had the trailer out a couple of times in the last few weeks getting use to it behind the RSV before taking off for South Dakota on the 3rd......Last weekend I noticed the right tire on the trailer was low/almost flat.....Filled it up to 55lbs and this AM noticed it was flat again. These are basically NEW tires...Previous owner never used the trailer...Ran some H2O over the tire and found a small..and I mean small leak in the middle of the tread...pinhole almost...Took it to get it plugged and an inside patch..Did I say me and the wife are L leaving for South Dakota on the 3rd) Question ???...in looking a the tire I noticed that these Stock Tires are 2 ply...I am concerned that if it picked up something this easy on a couple of test drives...Should I go out and invest in some 6 ply tires?.....Can pick up a couple at Tractor Supply for about $90-$100... I do have a spare in case one of the stock tires picks something up during the trip...... Long Tall Lynchburg, VA

What to folks do about a Trailer Jack when on a trip...I guess is I take the plug kit and a mini compressor, I would not need any jack? Any thoughts....Leaving for South Dakota on the 3rd.... Long Tall:smile5:

Bought Ken W. (forum member) MCT Trailer in anticipation of our first two week trip...Wife and I are heading out Sept. 3rd heading to Badlands area of South Dakato....Been doing a lot of reading here.....Changed Oil, Filter, Rear End Gear Oil, Sync'ed Carbs, Checked Air in all tires (including trailer), checked Trailer bearing for grease....purchased tire plug repair kit....have small air compressor....Did test run on Blueridge Pkwy and Four-Lane at speed (no problems)..Cleaned and re-oiled K&N Filters.....Got a lot of help from a Goldwing riding couple on how to pack, size of cooler, etc.... How/Where do I download/print the VR Assist List? NOW I HAVE TO WAIT 3 WEEKS... BIDING MY TIME:fingers crossed:>>>>>OF COURSE I KNOW IT WILL GET DIRTY DURING THE TWO WEEKS... Long Tall Lynchburg, VA

Couldn't wait until tomorrow.....went out to the bike...put the key and turned her on...NO RUNNING LIGHTS....NOTE: The LAST THING I do when putting her up from and ride is when I pull into the driveway, I have to make a couple of full left and full right front fork turns to get her turned around before backing her into the garage....More that likely those wires are getting pinched.... TKS...

Follow-up to my own reply....Got on the bike this AM for an all day ride..Went to the meeting place and guess what...No running lights and fuse is blown....Just so happens my Bud with A RSTD is there and he says his Bud with a Venture had a problem like this and found the problem in the running light switch inside the cowling....I Put in a new fuse....TURNED my running lights on and left them on ALL DAY....Still no blown fuse...MUST BE in the switch when it is OFF?.......ANYWAY...going to got a few days riding with them ON all the time and see what goes....I will be exchanging the Headlight bulb with a SilverStar before my trip the first of Sept....Will probably check it when I have the front cover off... Later... Long Tall

Found It....One of my connections behind the plate was loose and had worked itself loose.....Pulled on everything behind the plate to make the fuse go again and NO CAN DO....I did the connection here because of connections I have under the seat already....not much room left there...Had some input from some forum members that used "behind the plate" and have not had any problems....Put on a new wiring connection and made sure it was crimped tight.....Pulled, poked, and not more fuse blowing.... Ready for our first "LONG DISTANCE" (Virginia to South Dakota) trip the first of September... Thanks all for your input... Long Tall Lynchburg, VA

Gary: When I first wired for the trailer (LED Lights) i put the 5 wire for the trailer on the bike and vice versa for the trailer... the 4 exposed connections that were "then" on the bike would touch the hitch and blow the fuse...no lights at all.....I changed the trailer/bike ends for the bike/trailer flat five wire...and now "WITHOUT" the trailer being hooked up....Bike by itself....ONLY the running lights go...This is what makes me think it is the running light connection at the rear of the bike behind the taillight where I make my connections....All other lights work.... So me and the misses are coming home at dusk and I notice my running lights are not on....Headlight, Tail and Running lights...Brake and Turn are OK... A couple of week ago I wired for a trailer behind the tail light....SOOOOOOOO] Pulled into driveway....Checked the 15amp fuse and it was gone....replaced and all is well...Running lights work again....Got on the beast to move it into the garage and I have to run up on a slightly elevated concrete edge....When I bounced over it..OUT GOES THE RUNNING lights again...by this time its. dark... My though is that my connection in the taillight must have worked loose and it is shorting our....I'll check tomorrow PM after I get home from work. Question..Does this make "electrical guru" sense? Note: Leaving on first long distance trip the first of Sept and HOPE this is all it is.... Long Tall Lynchburg, VA

I bought the Alumna Trailer from a forum member here and I proceeded to do the wiring after many posts read and a few pm's.... Changed the 5 pin round on the Alumna over to a 5 pin flat and same for RSV...Decided to do wiring at the tail light because of existing wiring under seat for the lightbar under the trunk (not a lot of room left)...Wired her up and everything work..... After a couple of days gone by I have my Bud over to show off my new toy....Turn the bike on...Start the bike....Reach under the fender near the hitch...grab the bike end of five pin connection and I happen to "touch" in the the bottom of the fender while reaching for the trailer end of the connection and ":puzzled:"...I blow the 15amp fuse for the lights....Replace the fuse and do this again ON PURPOSE and "same thing"....I replace the fuse....being more careful not to touch the bike end to anything and hook up the trailer and ALL IS WELL.... Question: Before I go into the rear light assembly and wire...What should I check first. I do not really want to go through everything again if I can avoid it.... TKS...
