Thanks John. I'm now thoroughly convinced that I have the 2004. And you're right - the pearl/white is an extraordinary colour. B!tch to keep clean though. I was on a day ride with my pillion-in-a-million the other day, and saw this little cloud of black spots looming up at a great rate of knots. Then suddenly - SPLAT! I think it was a swarm of bees. Guts all over the screen and farings. Happened just like that. Washed off pretty easy though. Always get a smile from people at service stations when I pull up for fuel AND wash my winsdcreen. These bikes are far and few between in Oz, and 9 people out of 10 think it's a H-D. They're very quickly enlightened on the differences between a motorcycle and a H-D.

Thanks for that Jay. It's purely an academic matter for me. The insurance company can tell me whatever model it wants to, because I have it insured for an agreed value. And as for 5 years warranty - not in Oz mate! Two years is all you get here. I don't know why Stateside warranty should be longer than Down Under. Maybe somebody has an answer for that one as well. Bit discriminatory if you ask me.

I just renewed the insurance on my RSV. When I bought it (second-hand) the previous owner said it was a 2003 model. Took him on his word. I've since found out - through this forum - that it's a 2004 model. She's white, apparently that makes it 2004. The insurance company is trying to tell me that it can tell from the VIN that it was manufactured in 2003. This may be so, but does that make it a 2003 or 2004 model. See my avatar. She's definately white. VIN is JYAVP09254A000058 and was sold new in Australia on 04/05/2004. (That's the fourth day of May for you Yanks). So, what year model do you reckon I own? I'd like to straighten out the insurance company.

You win. Absolutely spot-on.

Greetings all. Public holiday Monday here in my state. Wife says to me yesterday, "Do you want to do a run to Orange tomorrow (125kms away) and do breakfast so I can check out some tiles?" (We're renovating, but who cares? Any excuse for a ride). Didn't have to ask me twice. Up at 6.30 and on the road by 7. Bee-u-tee-ful day. No traffic to speak of that time of the day and the temperature is around 15degC. We got to Orange around 8.20 (couple of stops on the way) and noticed a breeze starting to stir. Did the tile looking thing in the big hardware store (and bought myself some big-boys' toys in the tool shop) and walked back out to the bike. "Sheesh", says the boss. "That wind's picked up quite a bit". So we head off back home. The further we go the more windy it gets. By the time we got home after an hour of non-stop riding I was nackered. By my estimation we had an 80km/hr (50 mph) crosswind ALL THE WAY. Not funny, I can tell you. Every time we came out of a cutting we were blown sideways towards the on-coming traffic lane. I think I've worn the left sides of the tyres away from keeping the bike on a constant lean into the wind. You watch, as soon as the sun goes down the wind will disappear. Hate that. Oh well, back to work tomorrow. Probably ride. Can't be any worse that today was.

Good call Condor. I don't think there is such a thing, is there? I think it's a short version of REally TIRED - when you lay down in a pine box. :rotf::rotf:

After 9,959 days in the same job - forced retirement (medical [work-related] disability) 2 months before my 54th birthday. That was 2 years ago. I'm on a pension that is 78% of my salary when I retired, and that's only taxed at 15c in the $. I can commute my superannuation any time I like (it's rolling over and earning good interest) but will wait until I'm 60. That's worth around $400k. Working 17.5 hours a week for another government department to keep myself sane, bringing in the same money as my pension but only half because I only work half a week. I own everything I have including the home I live in and another rental I own. Have 2 cars and an RSV - and a gorgeous wife who also works 17.5 hours a week. Also have a good reserve in the bank earning me 6.5% p.a. Yes, I'm a capitalist. Yes, I believe charity begins at home. Yes, I worked damned hard for everything I own (sometimes holding down 3 jobs at once to support a mortgage with 17% interest, a wife and 3 kids). No, I don't give anything away and no I wouldn't change anything if I had the chance to do it all again. Forgot to mention that I live in the best country in the world that for many years has run a surplus budget - and I'm part of it!

I have the best and cheapest global positioning system going. It's called the sun in the morning and the stars at night. Just set 'er up on the black top, point and shoot! Who cares where I'm going? Half the fun is just getting there - no matter which way I go.

Hey - whoa! It's not ME selling, I'm just alerting members to one I saw for sale in Oz. Thanks for thinking of me, anyway. Spear BTW - that's Aussie (Capital A and ie)

Hey guys. Just found this on eBay. Could be a cheap way of coming down under for a touring holiday WITHOUT bringing your rig with you. You'd get your money back before you went home! http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=320162190891

I tried my phone number and got a company in China and one in Germany.

Just finished negotiating with the seller of the Samson pipes and they're in the mail. Should have them on within a week, so I'll let y'all know how they sound. Woo hooo. Can't wait to hear myself. (Yeah right, and I'm sure the neighbours can't wait either!) -
There was a similar post a couple of months ago on this subject, and conflicts of opinions arose. I think it ended up with a tyre (or is that 'tire'?) expert saying the tyre should rotate in the direction indicated, so the overlap of the belts is correct. I suppose it's a bit like putting a sanding belt on a linisher the wrong way around. You'll soon catch something under the overlap and shred your sanding belt. Surely the wheel is designed to pull out, spin 180 degress and put back in?? I'd like to know.

Bike dead in the bike shed!
spear replied to spear's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I do use a REAL battery charger - 4amp model. Battery mustn't have been too bad, as after 3 hours she was back up to strength. -

That was the problem George - there has been NO riding for many weeks and it's been as cold as blazes. Battery seems fine now. Might ride her to work tomorrow. -

Hey Squeeze - that's BIKE (I repeat BIKE) not BIKER! Sheesh. You scared me back. :rotf: -
Damn I hate that. Haven't ridden the RSV for 4 weeks as it's either been to cold or too wet - or I've been too busy. Saturday did a 350kms round trip in the Subie to pick my son up from where he delivered his motorhome to the new owners. Sunday my wife and I drove 200kms in the other direction to deliver him to his fiancee, then we drove 200kms back home. Arrived around 2:30pm and the boss (wife) says, "Well, I'm going to do some more painting on the house, what are you going to do?" WHAT A QUESTION! I already had my jeans on and I was looking at my new bike boots in the corner. Quick as a flash I pulled the boots on, pulled on my vest and my jacket, went out to my bike shed and put on my helmet and gloves, put the key in the ignition of the RSV, turned her on - lights on and a brrrrrrrrrrrrrr of the fuel pump etc. Choke out, hit starter button. Cranked 3 or 4 times, THEN DIED. Ran out of crank, oomph and all the other things it needed to start. Been sitting too long. Off with the seat, off with the negative cable, on with the charger - and 4 hours later lots of power. But- it's now dark and too damned cold to do anything. So, I put it back together, went inside and had a couple of beers. Oh well, some other day maybe? Damn I hate that!

Heal toe shifter came off
spear replied to 2Whlsrollin's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Hmm! Never experienced any problems like that - yet. Probably won't either. I have a penchant for doing a run around the bike with a spanner, hex key and screwdriver whenever I wash it. Check the nuts, bolts and screws as I chamois off. Bit like doing a pre-flight check before take-off. Bit late once you're at 30,000 feet to worry about the rudder falling off - all for the sake of a screw loose somewhere that you woulda found if youda looked. -
Funny, isn't it? My pillion-in-a-million bride had the same complaint, so I told her to pull her head in. Ouch!!:rotf:
