I just got off the phone to Annie. A quick update - her surgeon came back from holidays today and he and others had a round-table conference on her condition. She has had x-rays etc to make sure there is no infection in the break. Still laid up in hospital and waiting for her surgeon to see her tomorrow with a decision on the next step. Sounds happy enough although she'd rather not be there. I told her there had been over 70 responses to her hubby's post and I think she got a little choked up. I flicked through most of them and read out a few and who they were from. She asked me to thank each and every one of you for your prayers and good wishes. I'm gonna check with her again in 24 hours or so and give y'all another update. She sounds like one tough chick!!

Cut Down Stock Windshield
spear replied to GaryZ's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I too have the stock screen on my '04 RSV. I'm 6' 4" tall and find the screen a terrific height to avoid wind buffeting. I ride with an open-faced helmet. At night, in the rain or when riding into the sun - the screen is dangerous. As an experiment to find the ideal screen height, I have tried riding the bike on the highway and standing up slowly on the boards until I get hit in the face by the wind. I find that happens after my eye sight clears the top of the screen. I plan on cutting enough from the top of the screen so when I sit normally on the bike, the top will be about 1" above eyebrow height. That will mean no wind buffeting, however - if I need to see clearly all I have to do is sit up straight and poke my head up enough to clear the top of the screen. My gauge will be to sit normally on the bike, look straight ahead, pick a point on the screen, then cut it down to that point. Sound simple enough? Let's hope so!- 12 replies

Hmmmm. The Aussie health care system may be in some degree of shambles, but at least IT'S FREE (to a degree.) A visit to outpatients at my local hospital for suspected H1N1 would be covered by Medicare. I know of a guy who went to the good ol' USofA for a holiday, and got horribly sick whilst he was there. Spent a week or so in ICU. He did not take out travel insurance prior to flying out, and had to sell his home in OZ to pay for all his medical expenses.

Greetings and commiseratons to all you northern-hemisphere type people. At 5:47pm my time today (less than 5 hours ago) I was still outside in the yard doing things around the house. Didn't come inside until 8pm (just over 2 hours ago) when it was still daylight. Yep - today was the summer solstice for me. Sunrise was at 5:55am and sunset was 8:11pm. A whole 14 hours and 16 minutes of daylight. So where does the 5:47pm become significant? That's when old mother Earth went to the maximum on the old axis tilt and now she's heading back the other way. (You know - I swear I felt that slight hesitation, right at that time!) Now the days will be getting shorter for me, and getting longer for you. We had a fairly cool day today. It only got to 32degC (90degF). In six months time it'll be your turn for maximum daylight.

Tony, Just organised the annual trip for me, my bros and sister. We will be in Tamworth on Friday 26/02/2009 to do an overnighter at the City Lights (sister owns that). From there we ride to Brunswick Heads on Saturday 27/02, spend Saturday and Sunday there and head back home on the Monday. I'll be doing the whole run back home to Geurie, all 812kms on the Monday - hopefully. If I don't feel like doing that I'll stay over again at Tamworth (474 kms)and head home Tuesday. (Don't ya just love semi-retirement?) Make it a date and we'll catch up if you can get into town on the Friday. It'll be late afternoon, so there's no need to ride. Gotta avoid the 'roos. Cheers, Steve

Any ideas how to remove a stripped Allen bolt?
spear replied to Color01's topic in Poor Man Tips and Fixes
Now - that's something I've always wondered about, left-hand drill bits. From your comments I gather they do exist. Haven't seen such an animal down-under. Makes sense though, seeing most drills have forward and reverse. Would love to find a set. -

You may have seen some TV coverage a couple of weeks ago of a massive dust storm that swept across Australia and turned Sydney a deep red colour. This is a shot a mate sent me of the storm front as it passed through Broken Hill. Broken Hill is in the very west of my State and close to the 'epicentre' of the storm where it originated in central South Australia. The last I heard the dust was settling on the north island of New Zealand.

Thanks for the good wishes for 'the kids'. I sent them a link to this thread, and Kate said to thank you as well.

Wow. So many tools for so little machinery! :rotfl: Sorry Squid.

It must be getting darned close. All the supermarkets have their Christmas decorations on sale. Sheesh. Talk about crass commercialism. You wait - in February they'll be flogging easter eggs!
-
Hey Dano. We call it snow!

I'll have 2 of the 2nd Gens - as long as you take PayPal. Nothing else will work from Down-Under. When they arrive I'll send one over to the west to Aussie Annie. So Annie - when you read this - don't bother ordering your own. I'll save you some postage.
