Thank god for that. You are human, after all.

Hey Barry (and others.) Did I happen to mention that I've solved the low speed handling problem? :cool10:
-
No problems girl. Been mega-busy of late, what with grand-kids, my kids moving interstate, weddings (photographing same), renovations (bike shed), fitting a Voyager to the bike (check the avatar) etc etc. Stay safe.

Sorry Peg. Missed it - HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!!
-
Thought I better show you what all the fuss is about. Certainly a v-e-r-y different riding experience.

THE EAGLE HAS LANDED! Fitting day tomorrow. Woo hoooooo!

An update for those who are remotely interested (and how remote is Down Under??) The Wedgie left Perth WA (that's Western Australia - Oz) 24 hours ago and is on its way east. Being transported from one side of Oz to the other and being delivered to my workshop in about 7-10 days. Can't wait.

Be a bit bl00dy obvious, wouldn't it?

You're right you know about other dealers. I picked up the bike today - OUCH! $1,350. I asked for my bike club discount and got it down to $1,235. Ouch. Breakdown. Labour 8 hours @ $80 an hour = $640. OUCH. I'm in the wrong business. Parts $585.08. Got my 'consumables' removed from the bill ($102:36) that was my discount, then add 10% GST came to 1,234.99. EIGHTY BUCKS AN HOUR FOR LABOUR???? The snotty-nosed kid at the service desk took great delight in informing me that my bike was "out of registration." (For the benefit of those in the States - unlicensed.) Told him it was none of his business. The rego was renewed a couple of weeks prior, I never got around to replacing the rego label. A notation was also made on the invoice to the effect that the "rego out of date." I have a set of Samson slash-cut straight-through pipes. A further notation was made on the invoice to the effect that they did not comply with Australian Design Rules. When I got home I opened my top box to put my helmet away, and there inside is a screwed up soft drink cup from Subway. Not mine! I fired an email off to the stealer and told him registration and pipes were my business - not his staff. I also told him the bike was there for a service and new tyre. Nothing else, so the rego label and pipes did not come into the equation. I also gave him a piece of my mind for his staff using MY topbox as THEIR rubbish bin. Have resolved to take my business to a new Kawasaki dealership in town, which incidentally is owned and operated by a bike mechanic who used to run the Yamahaha stealer's workshop. To top it off, I work in the same department as his wife here in town. Things can only improve.

I have a Kawasaki dealer, a Honda dealer, a Suzuki dealer and a KTM dealer in town as well - all with workshops - but it sort of makes sense to get a Yammie serviced with a Yammie dealer. No?

We're in the middle of a long weekend in my home state Down Under. Last Tuesday (it's now Saturday) I had my bike booked in to the local Yamahaha dealer for a 40,000kms service and a new rear tyre. Was supposed to pick it up the following day after it had been allowed to cool so the valves could be checked or whatever they do at the 40k service. Mid-morning Wednesday I'm told that the 'parts' they needed hadn't arrived on the courier service and it would be another day. "No problems", sez me. I'll get a lift in to town with a work colleague the next day. That night the dealer rings to tell me that his mechanic has stuffed his back "putting my carbies back in" and is off work - hopefully back on deck "later in the day". He would let me know by 6pm if it's right to go by the next morning. I did not hear back from him so I cancelled my lift with my friend. I gave him until noon Friday to ring me but I heard nothing. Meantime the daily train has passed through so I've missed that. Mid afternoon I ring to see how it's going and I'm told that the job card is being written up "as we speak and she's right to go." "That's fine," sez me. "But how do I get in to pick it up?" (Mind you I'm 25kms out of town with no other wheels as my pillion is away in the car visiting family.) Stony silence from the other end. I'm waiting for something like, "No worries. We'll slip out and pick you up", or "Give us an hour and we'll pop it on a trailer and deliver it to you." Nuh. No such offers. I abruptly told them to lock it up in the workshop and I'll pick it up on Tuesday (after the long weekend) when everybody's back at work. I also let it be known that I planned on taking off for a couple of days riding but that was now impossible. I'm sure the tone of my voice at that stage expressed my complete and utter dissatisfaction. So, tell me - how does a one day job turn in to a week? Just like it did above. Wonder what sort of 'compensation discount' I'll get. Unfortunately the closest other Yamahaha dealer is an hour and a half away.

On a more serious note . . I own a second gen and often do BIG miles - stopping only for fuel. MY BAD! I have two crushed discs in my lower back (on-going chiro treatments) that are not affected by riding, but give me hell with my sciatic nerve - right side - in everyday life. Recently I did a 1200kms (750 miles) trip in my car in just under 12 hours, stopping only twice for fuel. Towards the end of the trip I felt sharp stabbing pains to the underside of my right foot. Told my chiropractor about that last session and he said it was the sciatic nerve reacting to me sitting for so long. He also said I was in danger of DVT, and if I ever did that again he would not have me back as a patient because he would kill me first - for being an idiot. Wow - heavy words. Ya live and ya learn - sometimes too late. Hope you get your problem/s resolved.

Hey Annie, Just as an aside - that 245 forum seems pretty life-less. In fact I'd call it dead! Spear

Thanks Wizard and Annie. I couldn't remember that it was the Voyager top-side. New, lets get poetic here - - My brothers and sister with whom I do an annual ride, have christened my RSV The Mothership. I seem to remember the dialogue from the opening scenes of Star Trek that go something like this: "These are the voyagers of the Starship Enterprise..." Voyager - Starship - Mothership. Am I making a connection here? Ah - fergit it!

When it comes to doing that sort of building around my place, I refuse to pay anybody to do it. Heck no. Damn 'em all to hades. I do it myself. I've put (big) extensions on two homes I've owned (current and previous) and have re-designed, extended and fitted out my workshop to suit myself. Have turned a single garage into a bunk house that also houses my bike. Grandkids love sleeping with Grand-dad's bike! Ah - the satisfaction of a job well done.

Hey Cap'n Joe. $10k new is about on the mark here in Oz PLUS fitting. Mine's not new and I'm fitting it.

Sorry Ironhead. I've been incommunicado for a while. Just saw your post. Will take some pics on the morrow and post them here. (Going in for a service and new rear doughnut prior to fitting my Wedgetail.) Spear

Hey guys. Many of you will have been terrorised lately by Annie and Al visiting you from down-under. I'm very pleased that she has returned, as I've bought her Wedgetail Outrider from her to fit to my 2004 RSV. Mind you it has to be shipped from one side of the country to the other, but nevertheless it will be worth it. I'm sure the Wedgetail is known by another name in the States, so here's a link to the local site if you don't know what I'm talking about. I'll let you know how I go with it and post photos when done. Cheers, Spear. http://www.wedgetailoutriders.com.au/

Thinking about buying a Venture...Question. So - what is there to think about? No 'Question' needed. Just buy the thing! No regrets supplied.

Putting an ME880 on mine next week. That's what the dealer recommended and what he rides. (Can't get Avon. There's a bloke in Oz who has a monopoly on imports and he charges like a wounded bull.) -

07 RSV Rear Shock Not Covered??? WTF ??
spear replied to StarRider07's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Stick it right up the b4st4rds! Don't take any sh1t! -
Greetings all. On my last big trip in April this year I had cause (need) to replace my mobile phone. Ended up with a Nokia N8-00, and boy is it a beauty. By playing around with it I have discovered a number of remarkable features, the least of which is that it has a standard 3mm audio jack outlet. To cut to the chase - if I run the phone through the auxiliary of the RSV and programme my phone, I can use it as a hands-free phone whilst riding (or stationary). It has 16GB of memory and I have loaded 1,520 mp3 music files onto it and I play that also through the audio out. I keep the phone charged using a standard Nokia 12V charger. I also have an internet radio application on the phone through which I can listen to thousands of radio stations from around the world - all whilst riding. If a phone call, text message or email come in the radio volume dies out for about ten seconds so the relevant alert tone can be heard. If it's a phone call I have auto answer and the music is auto-muted. The phone is mounted to the bars of the bike with a secure holder and I have a three-way 12V + USB outlet mounted to the top of my front brake master cylinder. Through that outlet I also run my GPS and the USB is handy for charging my 8GB MP4 player that I also use for music. Surely no need for a CD player or tape deck.
