Hey folks, Been monitoring Sandy's path of destruction and thinking of you all up that way. Also thought you might like to watch this little clip. It's about 18 minutes in length, but the most interesting part is between 03:40 and 08:40. This guy actually predicted something as big as Sandy was going to hit - some time. He was pretty well on the money. http://www.wimp.com/predictedhurricane/

Thank you one and all for your prayers, thoughts and good wishes. We gave Dad one helluva send-off. I am one of six kids and we - yes WE - conducted the funeral service in the chapel at the crematorium. My sister is a Civil Celebrant so she 'called the shots'. A representative from the Returned Servicemen's League attended and delivered a tribute - Dad was in the navy during WW2. All our kids were there, my three doing a 2,000 miles flying round trip in 30 hours. Mum is doing quite well - considering. All in all a great celebration of a great life. Thanks again folks. I've lost a good mate, but we move on.

My Dad had been unwell for a couple of weeks, and the prognosis was not good. He was 88 - 32,468 days old. I had an hour or so with him only hours prior to his passing away, although he did not know I was there. One of my brothers was with him when he died - peacefully and painlessly. Dad was a biker most of his life, buying a WLA42 after WW2 and when he retired at 70 he started filling his 'bucket list' and bought another Harley. The funeral service is this Saturday and it will be a family affair. My sister is a civil celebrant and will be doing the service for us. My brothers and I will be doing readings and supporting our Mum. Dad will be cremated and when Mum dies we will include Dad's ashes in her casket. Sixty years is a long time to know somebody, but as a friend said today - who lost her Dad when she was 12 - you had 48 years with your Dad longer than I did. How true. Dad was a watchmaker by trade, and I am including this in his service. Very apt I think. The clock of life is wound but once, And no man has the power To tell just when the hands will stop At late or early hour. To lose one's wealth is sad indeed, To lose one's health is more, To lose one's soul is such a loss That no man can restore. The present only is our own, So Live, Love, toil with a will -- Place no faith in 'Tomorrow' -- For the clock may then be still.

A First Gen? What's wrong with the man? (Just kiddin' Al - JUST KIDDING!)

I dunno. Sounds a bit too scripted for me. Sorry!
-
Hey Annie, Sorry - am I reading between the lines here? Are you and Al shipping your bikes top-side for the ride?

I love the stock sound. About two years ago I put on a set of Samson straight-through pipes. Man - what a sound. Put any Harley to shame. Eventually got sick of the noise so reverted to the originals. Now I can hear the chirp of the motor, the sat-nav and my phone ringing. Best thing is the pillion-in-a-million is now more willing to climb aboard.

I have the Voyager kit on my RSV and whenever I park it, it is always left in first gear. When I pull up I flick the kill switch, then turn off the ignition and pull the key prior to walking away. Actually I need the key to lock my helmet on the side. The reasons quoted above all make sense for keeping the switch, most importantly to be able to kill the thing in an emergency without taking your hands off the grips. As for those of us (you) getting caught by your mates flicking the kill switch when you're not looking - get in the habit of ALWAYS flicking it to the 'off' (live) position every time you put the key in the ignition. It's a good habit to develop. Bit like a pre-flight check in an aircraft. There are things you just gotta do prior to taking off.

Greetings all, Just had a look at a review of the 2012 Second Gen and it includes a photo of what is purported to be the motor of the bike. First time I've heard of an air cleaner for a 2G mounted between the pots. Who is having a go at whom here, and can anybody identify the motor? http://www.topspeed.com/motorcycles/motorcycle-reviews/yamaha/2012-yamaha-royal-star-venture-s-ar117728.html (N.B. - I just had a look at this link here and the photo of the motor DOES NOT appear, only a description. I originally found it by Googling. See if you can find the same review and also see if the photo of the motor shows up.)

Hang in there girl - and keep it there. No place for such annoyances on the east coast.

I bought one of these. $30. Fantastic unit. Light as a feather and only needs a 1/4" whitworth bolt to mount it on your handle bars. Has its own battery or you can run it from 12V or USB (I run both on my RSV). I have a 32GB Class 10 SDHC card loaded in it for six hours of HD video recording. Don't be fooled by the low, low price. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/130682004135?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649

The pillion and I live off our credit cards. We have a Visa account for general, everyday purchases and a MasterCard for fuel and groceries. Buying groceries on the MasterCard earns us a four to eight cents a litre discount on our fuels (petrol and diesel.) We usually run up around $2,500 a month and ALWAYS pay on time - every time. Works well for us.

What's all this talk of 'retirement' girl? I "retired" seven years ago when I was 53 after 27 years 2 months and 17 days (but who's counting?) as a LEO. Wasn't off work for more than eight weeks when I was offered a part-time, permanent job with another government department that I readily took on. Why? Just can't retire. It's too hard. I need the social interaction (and the extra money's not bad either!) So now at 60 and the pillion at 58 (and still working - in the same department as me) we've decided to carry on until I'm 65 then go crazy. We plan on seeing most of the rest of the world prior to hitting 70. So look out America - here we come (soon [one day]). Either way - congratulations Peg. I'm sure you'll be missed at school.

Those of you with a penchant for horse racing - check out Black Caviar. This amazing Aussie horse has won 21 races in a row and is now headed for England to do battle. http://www.abc.net.au/news/2012-05-12/black-caviar-celebrates-happy-21st/4007556

What's the fastest allowable flash rate for turn signals? Some jurisdictions give a range of flashes per minute and you have to be between the lower and upper figures to be legal.

Freebird sent me a bell a couple of years ago and I've had it swinging from the helmet hook on the left side under the top box. Used a key ring to hang it. Anyway, t'other day I was cleaning the bike and noticed that the ring of the bell was wearing pretty thin from all those miles of swinging in the breeze. Reckoned it wouldn't be long before it wore right through and dropped off. Replaced the key ring with a thick cable tie. Problem solved - I hope!

My son just bought my 2001 Subaru Outback from me - H6 3 litres petrol job that does 10kms to the litre. I bought a VW Tiguan 2 litres, 4 cylinder turbo diesel that does 18kms to the litre. I WIN!
-
Don't know what the conversion factor is, but in my home city I'm paying $1.49/litre for regular unleaded. Coincidentally diesel for my tin top is the same price.

Don't know if a GPS known as the NAVIG8R i43 is available top-side. Made by Laser. I have one on my RSV. Retails for $98 with life-time map upgrades. Is glove-friendly and has a 4.3" wide screen. Only 1cm thick. Craps all over my TomTom for features.

Ottawa Fatality Today - RSV
spear replied to a topic in Inspirational, Motivational, Prayer Requests, Etc.
"A 54-year-old man who died while driving in Ottawa’s east end Saturday afternoon was an "aggressive" motorcyclist but also loved going to church twice a week,..." Sorry folks - you ride aggressively, you'll die that way. There is no room for aggression on the roads, especially on two wheels. Defensive yes - aggressive no! A lot of good going to church did for him except allow him to meet his maker early. -
Hey Ruffy. Doesn't PayPal have 'protection' for this sort of thing - like insurance against getting dudded?

I can't wait for the day when there will be no US or Aussie servicemen in Afghanistan. Bring it on and bring 'em all home, I say. -
Ah Don, Don, Don! You beat me to it. Perhaps you'll have more luck than me, seeing you're closer and there are bridges. If you can get to Oz Peg, I'll wash and polish my own bike and STILL take you for a ride.
