  1. Thanks! Ground Round closed down a few years ago, I liked that place too. Nothing has moved in yet.
  2. I think I saw on the website they are $99. Did you contact Martin to get a discount for being a member?
  3. I'm going to be installing new diaphragms in my 87. I've seen the jbm and oem style. Who has put in what? Is one better than the other? Any input would be great. Thanks.
  4. Hey all, I'll be replacing my diaphragms and adding shims here within a week or two. I was hoping to sync my carbs after that. I'm wondering if anyone in MN has a carbtune and would be willing to let me use it, or better yet give me a hand syncing. Thanks Of course this will only matter if winter ever goes away.
  5. I just picked up a cheap set of heated grips, bike master. They leave a lot to be desired. They are at least an inch shorter than the stock grips. The clutch side is very tight but I could probably get it on. The throttle side is really loose, it measures 1 1/16" id. I don't like the idea of having only glue holding it in. The temperature changes might break it up and leave me sol somewhere. Does anyone have any recommendations for a good set? Thanks
  6. Yep, seafoam. I don't see a need for it in every tank. But, I use it every year before I store it and have no problems. I do try to put in non oxygenized gas before I store it too.
  7. I've been looking into the first gear heat troller. It would be much easier and looks like a great switch. I would probably go with the dual so I could control 2 things. Does anyone have one of these? How does it work? Does anyone have a cheaper type? I don't really want to spend over 100 dollars for some wire and switches. Thanks
  8. I'm wiring up my heated vest and I am installing a hi low off switch. Anyone know what type of switch I should get? Spdt or dpdt? I would prefer one that I only need to wire in a single power source so it should have a built in resistor if there is such a thing. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
  9. Thanks everyone. I finally got it all installed tonight. I used a 4pdt switch and use that to switch between the auxiliary jack I installed and the radio. I found the female DIN plug on eBay for a buck, that way I didn't have to cut any wires. Just plugged it into the one on the amplifier. It works great, but even if my MP3 player is off and plugged in to the jack the radio volume is really low, or on I hear both. Hopefully sometime I'll figure out a relay so I can switch back and forth without having to unplug the MP3 player. If anyone knows how to do this please let me know. I cut a piece of plastic to cover the hole where the cassette player was and installed the switch and jack in there. I also put in a 12 volt power jack and the switch for my driving lights. Still have some more space, I'm thinking a switch for heated gear and one for grips, but that will have to wait, it's time to get some more riding in.
  10. 87 vr. My cruise control isn't working. Does anyone know the probable cause? When I turn it on, the 'set' and 'resume' lights turn on for about 3 seconds then back off. The 'on' light never turns on. I then turn it off and back on, same thing. I can here the relay clicking.
  11. Finally getting around to adding some pics. Here ya go.
  12. I'd take a couple stickers
  13. I have not delinked the brakes. Just to make sure i understand this. The pedal works both the rear and 1 side of the front(left I believe), and the front lever works just the other side? I knew the pedal works rear and front, but, I guess I thought somehow the lever worked both sides in front. So, if you delink the brakes, would the pedal work only the rear, and the lever work both the fronts?
  14. I know I use my fronts a lot more than the rear, I brake just like i ride, fast. I just repositioned the rear brake pedal so it should be easier for me to use it. I'll give that a try tomorrow. It might take a few try's with different things, but I think I'll get it where I want it.
  15. Hey thanks for all the replies everyone. Earl, I got back late last night and was going to give you a call tonight. I'll give the 15wt a try here sometime soon and call you after I try that out. Thanks for all the help.
  16. So I've come to think this is the way the bike is. It is now pretty stiff when I'm riding, but if I slam on the brakes, it dives, more than any bike I've had before. But, as this is a new bike to me, it must be the way it is. When I'm going slow and slam on the brakes, it dives and bottoms out. It no longer bottoms out when I'm riding, like it did before the new springs. I think I'm going to take out some of the spacers I put in and hopefully get a smoother ride. Hopefully it doesn't cause a problem if I have to stop quick and it bottoms out.
  17. Alright, I'm getting frustrated here, I had the springs rushed to me, installed them, without the PVC spacers as recommended to start, only using 2 washers on each side. I put in oil to around 5 3/4 inches from the top of the fork. It still bottomed out. I disconnected the antidives to see if that changed anything, it did not. So I took it back apart and was going to cut one PVC spacer in half. The cut did not go so well, so I put 10 washers in each side, which is about the size of half the PVC spacer. And, it still bottoms out. I gave up for the night. Should I add more preload? Any other ideas what could be going on here?
  18. Thanks for all the replies and help. So, I've got my springs ordered from skydoc. I'll be putting them in as soon as I get them. There is no signs of oil leaking from the seals. Hopefully there is some oil in there. I don't plan on changing them if I don't have to. I tested the anti dives and they are getting power. I'll pull them of when I do the springs and clean them up. Why are some disconnecting them? The oil will drain out when I pull the anti dives, right? What type of oil should I put back in? Any other tips for changing the springs?
  19. Thanks guys, any tips of where to get a good set and a better price?
  20. I had just about given up on my class and went and bought shraeder valves and was about to cut the lines and put them on, then found this thread. I had gone through the wiring, compressor, solenoids all with no luck. I did not have an error message but the solenoids were not clicking. I tried the solder fix and it worked! Thank you all. This saved me some time and money.
  21. So I finally got my class fixed(thank you to everyone for your help), and my front forks still dive and bottom out when I hit the brakes. I can see the forks raise and lower when I use the compressor. I rode it at 21 lbs and over little bumps and when I brake it dives down and clunks, what I assume is bottoming out. Anyone know what I should check? I just bought the bike and don't know any history of it, so I can only assume that everything is original. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
  22. I'm removing my cassette deck and putting in a mp3 jack on my 87vr. I found a few threads about this but am still a little confused. I understand jumping pins 1 and 7 to bypass the deck. Which ones do I wire in the switch and jack to? Does anyone make something I can just plug into the old cassette wire and go? Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm mechanical but no electrician, so please be as specific as possible.
  23. Thank you guys so much for all the help. I have the brake fluid warning fixed. I think I have the air compressor fixed. I left the trunk off just in case, but I'll check it tomorrow. There was a wire disconnected from the sensor for the temp gauge. I hope that was it, I didn't get a chance to ride or run it to see if that was it. I plan on getting the battery light fixed tomorrow using the steps I found in another thread here. Still don't know what I'll do with the cassette area, but that will probably be a winter project. Tip to anyone putting in different horns, there is no relay in the stock wiring, you need to put one in or you can burn out the switch. I learned the hard way, I put on air horns. Now one last question(for now anyways), how do I get away from my wife and kids for a good ride?
  24. Thanks, I'll see what I can do for pics.
  25. I am a first time venture owner. I just bought an 87 venture royale. I absolutely love it so far. I thought this site was very cool when I found it. Its great to be a part of this. Now, down to business, I hope you guys can help me. My bike needs some work before I can get it out for a few rides before snow flies. The air compressor has a bad solenoid. The rear shock won't fill up. Is this repairable? The temp gauge on the dash is not working, it stays at cold. Any common problems? Where is the sensor? What I believe is the low brake fluid in the front master cylinder warning light is on. The front is full. Common problems, where's the sensor? No glass in the rear. How full do I fill the rear? And not so pressing, I'm going to remove the cassette player, I will be putting in a mp3 jack, but I'm looking for more ideas of what to do with that space. Any information would be great, thank you
