    Trip pics

Look in the 6th pic, the pic on the left on the marker. Check out the switchbacks on the road going up to the Pinnacle Overlook, trust me, that pic does not do it justice.

    Hey puc

I was working thru a bunch of pics on the laptop and it hit me, 'ol puc called me out last year after we got back for NOT posting any pics. I'm not in any way a pro at this, but the "new and improved" site makes it easier for me. The wife just got us a new Canon Power Shot so we can take MORE ride pics. I'm still trying to get the GoPro figured out that she got me last year!!

    Memories

Nothing quite like the smell of 2 stroke exhaust. That one is all fancy-schmansy, with the optional gas tank rack!! I think the quickest was a H2 750 Kawasaki triple, the fastest overall had to be the Z1 900.
  4. I remember those days, just sleeping wherever you stopped. If only my old bones would let me do that now,,,,,,,,

    Hey puc

Just wanted to let you know that I posted some pics from our trip last Sept., better late than never!!
  6. Some pics from our Sept '14 trip thru Tenn, NC, SC, and eastern Ky. Bridal Veil Falls, Hwy 11W at the Bean Station Overlook, Cumberland Gap Tunnel and the Pinnacle Overlook, Hwy 23 Country Music Museum in Prestonsburg Ky.
  7. I never got "bit" by the boating bug, but I have been out with friends a few times thru the years, mostly fishing. I've got a friend whose parents live at Jamestown, he practically grew up on Cumberland. He always went to 76 Falls for the 4th of July tie-up bash, I've seen the pics/vids, looked like good times. The lake should look a lot better now that the water level is back to normal, I think they drew it down about 40-50 ft while they were repairing the dam, it's a really deep lake. There's some BIG hybrid stripers in there too.
  8. So I'm guessing that you put in around the Somerset/Burnside area? I'm about 2 hours from Somerset, 1 1/2 from Wolf Creek Dam. Everything around Cumberland should be back to normal now, it was screwed up for a while when they were working on the dam and had the water level lowered. Let me know when you're back down this way and we'll meet up somewhere.
  9. I had an '03 Roadie between my Ventures, that was a sweet ride. I'm still hoping to find a cheap "fixer-upper" just to have for my own selfish pleasure.
  10. Our trip last fall was the first time we had gone on a trip and not had any reservations made in advance. We just played it by ear, and "eye" on places to stay, and for the most part it all worked out. Most of the time when we're riding the evening meal is our "main" meal and we have played it by "nose", nothing quite like the smell of chicken frying in the late afternoon to pull you off the road.
  11. Wow, that's a NICE boat there boss. Can't believe you "found" Lake Cumberland from all the way up there in Ohio. When were you there?
  12. I have had one of these for about 6 yrs and it's done a good job for my needs. I had to replace the pressure switch a couple of years ago but that's it. Be careful ditching the plastic shroud, it directs air across the compressor and motor to help cool them off, (don't ask how I know). I also have a H/F HVLP gun that my son used to paint some parts on a car he had, plenty of air for that.

    Finally!!

I was kinda used to being a little slow getting on/off after my back surgery. But I figure I can deal with that now that both legs are solid under me again.
  14. I'm not sure about your Deere, but you should have a fuel pump that feeds the injector pump. If you can't find that then crack an injector line at the pump to see if it's pumping fuel. I had a similar problem with my Massey 150 a few years ago and luckily it was the fuel pump and not the injector pump. The diesel also could have gelled up, but if you use highway diesel in it then that usually doesn't happen. I would just start at the fuel tank and work my way forward making sure I have fuel at each component. Let us know what you find.

    Finally!!

Yeah Larry, it sure does. I just get frustrated at not being able to do some of the things I used to do. I got a text from Blairwitch this week, Rick was working here in Elizabethtown and she came up to stay with him this week. I met up with them at their hotel and we sat around telling old VOL war stories. We sure had a good time at those Redneck Rallies.

    Finally!!

Yeah, it's more my back than my leg. The sciatic nerves got all jacked up when they did my hip surgery and it's just taking a while to get it all worked back into shape. I had a similar issue when I had my back surgery. (we won't even bring up the guts:shock3:)
  17. I bought one last fall at Batteries Plus. It's an Xtreme Permaseal AGM 310cca, caught it on sale for $75. The battery I replaced was a Yuasa that was installed in 2011. The factory battery in my '04 Venture lasted 7 years, I replaced it just before I sold it in '11.

    Finally!!

Went to see my hip surgeon on Tuesday for what I hoped was going to be my "kicked loose" visit. She looked over everything, x-rays, pt report, then asked if I thought I was doing ok. I told her I thought I'm doing pretty good for an old guy with 2 aftermarket hips! She told me to do whatever I feel like doing, within reason, to which she stressed AGAIN doesn't involve ladders. After that one I followed up with my pain mgmt. dr and he tweaked one of my meds to help with the nerve pain I've been having since my surgery. Wednesday I went to the garage and the bike was just sitting there looking all lonesome. I slowly eased my leg over the seat, hoping it wouldn't buck me off, what with me being a stranger and all. It all felt good, plenty of strength in my right leg, but it was kinda hard getting my leg back over the seat to get off. It's gonna take a while to get the stiffness worked out, but it sure felt good to sit there behind that windshield again.
  19. Kinda looks like the Marlinton Motor Inn would be a good place to start a weeklong bike trip. From there I'd probably find my way over to the BRP and head south til I had just enough of that $1k left to get me home.
  20. I've got a couple of friends from the Volusia Owners site that are/will be your neighbors, one lives in Moncks Corner and the other in Seneca. We visited Seneca last fall, looks like a nice area to live in. Good luck with the move.
  21. I bought them about a year ago. Use the 1999 model & Venture tabs, then the windshield tab on the accy's page. It just worked for me.
  22. I've found that the little mom & pop hole-in-the-walls have the best BBQ. I used to go turkey hunting every March in Alabama and hunting out BBQ shacks was as much fun as chasing turkeys.
  23. I know I shouldn't complain, but I'm going to anyway. We've had snow on the ground for 2 weeks, we got 20" here Wed night, along with record cold temps since January. We just aren't used to having this long of a stretch of this crap. We're supposed to get into the 40's tomorrow and the 60's next week, and I'm sooooo ready for it.
  24. Probably Deep Purple's Smoke on the Water. About anything early Charlie Daniels, especially liked Franklin Limestone. La Grange runs a very close second place.
  25. Welcome to the site. The best price I found on the lower deflectors was at yamahasportsplaza.com, they are $164.21. That's where I got mine and I love them. You can also take the fork lowers off, that'll let a little more air in over the top of the lowers. I usually always took mine off my first Venture in hot weather, my '99 didn't have them when I bought it.
